Kansas City Chiefs at Los Angeles Chargers odds, picks and predictions: Player prop bets

Analyzing the Kansas City Chiefs at Los Angeles Chargers Week 15 matchup and offering up expert picks and predictions on the top player prop bets.

Week 15 kicks off with a massive AFC West matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs (9-4) and Los Angeles Chargers (8-5) on Thursday Night Football as these two teams continue to battle for the division title. Things will get underway at 8:20 p.m. ET from SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. Below, we look at the Chiefs vs. Chargers prop bet odds and lines, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Chiefs are beginning to look like Super Bowl contenders once again after a slow start to the season. They’ve won their last six games and haven’t allowed more than 17 points in a single outing across that span, holding opponents under 10 points in each of their last three games. The offense has woken up, too, scoring 70 points in the last two weeks – including a 48-point outburst against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 14.

The Chargers are also righting the ship after hitting some speedbumps, winning their last two by a combined score of 78-43. They already beat the Chiefs earlier this season, 30-24 in Week 3, so another victory over Kansas City would put LA in the driver’s seat for the division crown.

Chiefs RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire OVER 58.5 rushing yards (-120)

The Chargers’ run defense is, well, not good. They allow 4.7 yards per carry and have given up the second-most rushing yards in the NFL at 1,829. This could lead to a big day for Edwards-Helaire who may not get a huge workload but should average a healthy 5 or more yards per carry as he did in the first meeting with Los Angeles.

Chargers QB Justin Herbert OVER 288.5 passing yards (-114)

Herbert has gotten back on track in recent weeks, averaging 319.3 yards per game in his last four starts. Those outings were against some decent defenses in the Pittsburgh Steelers, Denver Broncos, Cincinnati Bengals and New York Giants.

The Chiefs are playing well defensively right now but they’ll be without CB L’Jarius Sneed and could be missing their best pass rusher DT Chris Jones who was placed on the COVID reserve list Tuesday. Herbert could be forced to throw it 40-plus times if the Chargers fall behind.

Chiefs TE Travis Kelce OVER 5.5 receptions (-156)

Kelce hasn’t had more than five receptions since Week 10 and has gone over that number just once in his last six games. However, he’s still seeing a healthy number of targets, averaging 7.3 in that span, including four games with 8-10 targets since Week 8. He should snap out of his funk with back-to-back games of three catches and 27 yards.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes UNDER 280.5 passing yards (-114)

Mahomes has only thrown for more than 280 yards once in his last seven games, and that was in Week 10 when he gashed the Raiders for 406 yards and 5 touchdowns. That appears to have been an outlier, however, as he has just two games of 280-plus yards since Week 3. The Chargers like to take away big plays by keeping their DBs deep, so that could limit Mahomes.

Chargers QB Justin Herbert OVER 16.5 rushing yards (-114)

Herbert has shown off his speed plenty of times this season and even rushed for 90 yards against the Steelers in Week 11. He’s topped 16 yards rushing five times this season and four of those games have come since Week 10. He could go over this number with one long rush and has a good chance to crack 17 yards rushing considering he’s carried it at least four times in each of his last six games.

Kansas City Chiefs at Los Angeles Chargers odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Thursday Night Football’s Kansas City Chiefs at Los Angeles Chargers Week 15 odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Kansas City Chiefs (9-4) and Los Angeles Chargers (8-5) start off the NFL’s Week 15 slate with an AFC West showdown in the Thursday Night Football game. Kickoff is set for 8:20 p.m. ET at SoFi Stadium (on FOX and the NFL Network). Below, we look at the Chiefs vs. Chargers odds and lines, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

QB Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City own a 6-game win streak, recently routing the Las Vegas Raiders 48-9 as 10-point home favorites in Week 14. The Chiefs are on a 4-0 ATS run and lead the AFC West by one game over the second-place Chargers.

After going 2-4 between Weeks 6 to 12 – with a bye in Week 7 – the Chargers have looked very impressive the past two games. They went to Cincinnati in Week 13 and claimed a 41-22 victory as 2.5-point underdogs, and then returned home to beat the New York Giants 37-21 as 9.5-point favorites.

Chiefs at Chargers odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Chargers 31, Chiefs 28

Money line

BET LOS ANGELES (+135) for a HALF UNIT. QB Justin Herbert threw 4 touchdowns in a 30-24 victory at Kansas City in Week 3.

The Chargers actually have won the last two in the series, but their 38-21 victory in Week 17 last season was aided by the fact the Chiefs rested several key players as they had already locked up the AFC’s No. 1 seed. Herbert still threw for 302 yards and 3 TDs in the win.

The logic behind this play is that the Chargers are at home, it’s a division matchup – which usually results in a close game – and L.A. can take over first place in the AFC West since they would complete a sweep of Mahomes & Co.

Against the spread

ATS records: Chiefs 6-7 | Chargers 7-6

BET 1.25 UNITS on the CHARGERS +3.5 (-120) for the same reasons mentioned above in the ML section.

They are 4-1-1 ATS in the last six vs. the Chiefs. Plus, they’re 5-1 ATS in their last six against the AFC West.

These two wagers make the Chargers my STRONGEST PLAY – usually 1½ times your average bet. You can divvy up the total 1.75 Units between the Chargers’ ML and ATS plays however you want.

Over/Under

OVER 52.5 (-110) is worth a HALF-UNIT wager.

The Chiefs are coming off a season-high, 48-point performance in their win vs. the Raiders. The Chargers scored 41 and 37 points in their last two games.

The AFC West rivals each average 27.0 points per game, tied for eighth in the league.

Both teams are 6-7 O/U on the season, while the O/U is 5-5 in the last 10 meetings of this rivalry.

They’ve actually alternated Overs and Unders across the last 6 head-to-head contests. The Week 3 final (Chargers 30-24) cashed an Under (55) ticket.

It’s the Over’s turn this time around.

Chiefs at Chargers head-to-head

Kansas City leads the all-time series 64-58-1 but lost the one postseason matchup.

These series between the longtime division rivals dates back to 1960 when Kansas City was the Dallas Texans and Los Angeles was … well, Los Angeles before moving to San Diego where it played from 1961 to the 2016-’17 season.

The Chiefs are 7-3 in the last 10 meetings, although the Chargers have won two in a row, including a 30-24 road victory in Week 3 of this season. Kansas also leads 5-4-1 ATS across that span, while the O/U is 5-5.

Kansas City is 4-0 ATS entering Thursday’s game but is 0-3-1 ATS in its last four against Los Angeles.
