The latest on kickoff time and broadcast information for Alabama vs. Mercer on Nov. 16.

The SEC on Monday announced kickoff times and broadcast info for Week 12 games on Nov. 16, including the nonconference game between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Mercer Bears.

The Tide (6-2) and Bears (8-1) will kick off at 1 p.m. CT on Nov. 16 at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa.

The game will only be available to stream on ESPN+/SEC Network+. That means there will be no traditional television channel in which Alabama vs. Mercer will air on.

Alabama is ranked No. 11 in this week’s US LBM Coaches Poll and AP Top 25 poll following their Week 10 bye. The Crimson Tide shut out Missouri, 34-0, in their last game on Oct. 26.

Mercer defeated East Tennessee State, 37-31, on Saturday. At 8-1 overall, the Bears are atop the Southern Conference standings.

Alabama rises in new AP Top 25 college football poll ahead of huge showdown with LSU

Alabama rises in the new AP Top 25 Poll after their bye week.

Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama Crimson Tide had a bye week on Saturday, but upsets of ranked teams powered the Tide’s rise in this week’s AP Top 25 released Sunday.

As with the US LBM Coaches Poll, Alabama rose three spots to No. 11 in this week’s AP poll. The Crimson Tide jumped past the Clemson Tigers, Iowa State Cyclones and Texas A&M Aggies.

Alabama is one spot below Notre Dame (7-1) at No. 10 and one spot ahead of Boise State (7-1) at No. 12.

The Tide are also the highest-ranked two-loss team, followed by the LSU Tigers (6-2) at No. 14. LSU rose two spots in this week’s AP poll. The Tide and Tigers will meet Saturday at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge at 6:30 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on ABC.

LSU also had its customary bye week ahead of their matchup with Alabama.

The Oregon Ducks (9-0) retained the top spot in the AP poll after their convincing 38-17 win over the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday. The Georgia Bulldogs (7-1) stayed at No. 2 following a 34-20 win over the Florida Gators in Jacksonville.

The Ohio State Buckeyes (7-1) moved up one spot to No. 3 after their 20-13 win over the Penn State Nittany Lions in Happy Valley. The Miami Hurricanes (No. 4, 9-0) and Texas Longhorns (No. 5, 7-1) both moved up one spot to round out the top five.

Penn State fell to No. 6 in this week’s AP poll. Tennessee (7-1) stayed at No. 7. The Indiana Hoosiers (9-0), led by former Nick Saban assistant Curt Cignetti, moved up five spots to No. 8. The BYU Cougars (8-0) were ranked No. 9 with Notre Dame rounding out the Top 10.

Latest USA TODAY Sports College Football Playoff, bowl projection for Alabama Crimson Tide

A look at where USA TODAY Sports sees Alabama in the College Football Playoff race entering the month of November.

The Alabama Crimson Tide got back in the win column in a big way with a 34-0 shutout victory over the Missouri Tigers at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Week 9.

At the top of the Top 25 polls, there was no change from last week, a marked contrast in what we’ve seen for much of the first half of the season. The Oregon Ducks held on to the No. 1 spot in the polls, followed by the Georgia Bulldogs at No. 2 after their bye week.

The Penn State Nittany Lions stayed at No. 3 with the Ohio State Buckeyes at No. 4 and Miami Hurricanes at No. 5.

As they do each week, USA TODAY Sports updated its weekly College Football Playoff and bowl game projections following Saturday’s action. Analyst Erick Smith and crew still have Alabama on the outside looking in of the Playoff race and currently favor the Tennessee Volunteers to be the last of four SEC teams projected to make the playoff.

Georgia was the projected SEC champion in Smith’s updated projections, followed by Texas. the Texas A&M Aggies, and Tennessee in SEC seeding. Oregon remained the projected No. 1 overall seed by USA TODAY Sports with Georgia No. 2. Miami (No. 3) and the Iowa State Cyclones (No. 4) are favored to win the ACC and Big 12, respectively.

As for Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide, Smith sees Alabama squaring off against the Indiana Hoosiers in this year’s Citrus Bowl on Dec. 31 in Orlando. Indiana is led by first-year coach Curt Cignetti, a former Nick Saban assistant at Alabama who was the Crimson Tide’s recruiting coordinator and wide receivers coach from 2007-10.

Alabama is 6-2 and ranked No. 14 in the US LBM Coaches Poll entering its second bye week of the season. Up next for the Crimson Tide is the annual showdown with the LSU Tigers on Nov. 9 in Baton Rouge. Kickoff for Alabama-LSU is set for 6:30 p.m. CT on ABC.

A win over the Bayou Bengals in the most hostile environment the Tide will face for the remainder of the regular season would improve Alabama’s playoff chances significantly.

Former Crimson Tide QB slams ‘different era’ at Alabama, blames TikTok and NIL

A.J. McCarron goes off on Alabama.

In parts of four seasons at quarterback for the Alabama Crimson Tide from 2010-13, A.J. McCarron was a part of two national championship teams and enjoyed four victory cigars against the Tennessee Volunteers in the ‘Third Saturday in October’ rivalry.

It’s been over 10 years since McCarron last suited up in an Alabama uniform, but the former quarterback isn’t happy with what he sees from the Crimson Tide, especially after last week’s 24-17 loss to Tennessee that dropped Alabama to 5-2 and marked their second loss in three games under first-year coach Kalen DeBoer.

Appearing on the McCready & Siskey podcast this week with hosts Neal McCready and Tyler Siskey, McCarron tore into what he called a “different era” at Alabama, one that has seen a noticeable lack of discipline.

He claims that players are too focused on social media apps like TikTok and on the “personal gain” they can get from NIL initiatives.

“I think for sure the standard that everybody was used to for so long after Alabama went through a bunch of hell leading up to those glorious years, I think it’s definitely a different era,” McCarron said on the podcast. “I don’t think you’ll see the same standard from discipline, just things that the team seems to do.

“And it’s a new day and age. Everybody’s worried about f****** TikTok and having a reel and being on highlights from their personal self and personal gain and how much money they can get from NIL. I mean, we just didn’t have that s*** back then. So, it was a team sport. You came together as a team because you had one common goal, because you knew that’s how you were going to make your money was by winning.

“Winning attracts people to that program. It attracts scouts, GMs. It attracts ownership to allow yourself to have that opportunity to go make yourself a lot of money and change your family tree for a long period of time. You can just tell it’s not the same. So, I would think ‘Bama fans should get used to that in a way of, ‘Hey, it’s not gonna be what you knew from 2008 up ’til last year where there was just a certain standard.'”

McCarron was quick to add that he wasn’t attacking DeBoer or any other members of the Crimson Tide’s coaching staff.

“That’s not a knock on the coaching staff or a knock on anybody,” he said. “It’s just a different era. I think it’s just something that (the fans are) gonna have to buckle up if they’re not ready for it.”

It’s not the first time McCarron has sounded off on his former team.

Following Alabama’s 23-17 loss to Ole Miss in October 2014 during McCarron’s first year away from the program as a rookie with the Cincinnati Bengals, he called out the team for not having “true leaders.”

Nick Saban responded to McCarron’s comments at the time by saying, “I don’t know how A.J. would really know, but I don’t necessarily see that as the case.”

Alabama is ranked No. 15 in this week’s US LBM Coaches Poll. The Crimson Tide host the No. 17 Missouri Tigers this Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The game can be seen on ABC.

Everything Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer said about Missouri on Monday

Alabama will welcome Missouri to Tuscaloosa on Saturday.

Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer took to the podium for the first time in Missouri game week Monday to preview the upcoming matchup with the Tigers, as well as take a look back at the loss to Tennessee.

During this weekly press conference, DeBoer gave a statement on Missouri in general, as well as provided a few injury updates entering the week to players such as Jalen Milroe and Keon Sabb, among others.

Taking a look at the former of those two topics however, here is everything that DeBoer said about the Tigers ahead of Saturday’s matchup against the Top 25 ranked program:

“Coach Drinkwitz, especially over the last two years, but I know it takes time for him to build to this, has done a great job,” DeBoer said. “Great football coach just as far as how he’s developing guys, and bringing the right people in to his program. Got some transfers that have added to a solid group of returning starters. 17-3 over the last two years. Just a resilient group. Won some close games, and so we’ve got another great task at hand as they’re always going to be in the SEC. Our guys are looking forward to the challenge. I know this week’s going to be one where we get back to work, and I want to bring a homecoming win back home for all of our fans and all our alumni.”

Alabama and Missouri will play Saturday from Tuscaloosa, with the game set to begin at 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC.

Paul Finebaum blasts ‘undisciplined’ Alabama, calls out Kalen DeBoer’s leadership

From lack of discipline to ‘players who look disconnected,’ Paul Finebaum pulled no punches Monday when discussing Alabama’s 24-17 loss to rival Tennessee.

ESPN college football analyst Paul Finebaum has his knives out for the Alabama Crimson Tide and coach Kalen DeBoer following their 24-17 loss to the Tennessee Volunteers at Neyland Stadium.

During his weekly appearance on McElroy & Cubelic In The Morning with hosts Greg McElroy and Cole Cubelic on Birmingham’s WJOX-FM Monday morning, Finebaum pulled no punches.

“I’m bewildered by everything I’ve seen, and I’m certainly even more concerned about the leadership of Kalen DeBoer,” Finebaum said. “We can talk technical aspects of games, and I know you guys have and will, but I don’t see much on the sideline. I see players who look disconnected. They’re undisciplined.

“Whether this is a continuum of last year, I’ll leave it to others to determine, but this season is clearly on the brink. Everyone knows what the calculus is and remains. It’s not impossible. There’s still a narrow window, but it’s hard for me to believe that Alabama is going to find a way to get to the playoffs based on what I’ve seen over the last three weeks.”

McElroy, who called Saturday’s game for ABC, said that he felt Alabama’s defense had improved against Tennessee. Finebaum didn’t seem to buy it and argued that if Vols quarterback Nico Iamaleava had been more accurate, Tennessee “would have scored 40 points.”

Iamaleava missed several open targets in Saturday’s game and was picked off by cornerback Jaylen Mbakwe on an ugly pass midway through the second quarter.

Cubelic asked Finebaum to elaborate on his comments about Alabama’s leadership under DeBoer.

“It’s the discipline,” Finebaum said. “Listen, two years ago, we had the same conversations about the penalties in the loss at Neyland, and here we are again. And I know everyone will harp on the (Kendrick Law) penalty and that was the one that finished the game off to a certain degree. But to me, it’s just more of the same.

“And by the way, I’m being critical of Kalen DeBoer (but) we didn’t dare criticize Nick Saban two years ago when they had 15 or 17 penalties. Maybe we should have.”

Finebaum added that he believed Alabama fans needed “something to wrap their arms around” going forward.

“The next couple of weeks can give them that. To think that Alabama has to run the table, they had to do that last year, and they did. I’ve seen crazier things from Alabama teams than beating a Missouri team that is imminently beatable and an LSU team that has some flaws, although they’re playing better.

“And also, recruiting matters. Whatever happens during the season, what you do immediately after the season in recruiting will help fans feel a lot better about the future.”

On3 ranks Alabama No. 1 in its class of 2025 recruiting rankings while 247Sports ranks the Crimson Tide at No. 2.

Alabama is ranked No. 15 in this week’s US LBM Coaches Poll. The Tide will host No. 17 Missouri at Bryant-Denny Stadium Saturday. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. The game will be televised on ABC.

Kalen DeBoer recaps Alabama’s loss at Tennessee

Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer recaps loss at Tennessee in Week 8.

Kalen DeBoer is in his first season as Alabama’s head coach. He suffered a loss in his first time coaching in the Third Saturday in October rivalry game against Tennessee.

The Vols defeated Alabama, 24-17, at Neyland Stadium on Saturday. DeBoer met with media following the contest and recapped the Crimson Tide’s performance.

“A tough loss,” he said. “A frustrating loss. We’ve had two now. We just can’t play team football, can’t bring it together. One side of the ball has highlighted moments, and the other side stumbles. Some missed opportunities. We try to look inward after every game. We have to continue to do the same. I know we have a locker room that’s hurting. There is a common feel in the locker room after a loss, but there is no doubt in my mind that these guys poured everything into the preparation. I’m frustrated we can’t get over the hump.”

Alabama’s Kalen DeBoer named to Coach of the Year watch list

The Crimson Tide currently sit at 5-1 for the year.

Released on Wednesday morning, Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer has been named to the watch list for the 2024 Paul “Bear” Bryant Coach of the Year award.

DeBoer was one of 20 total head coaches across college football to be named to the watch list, as well as one-of-seven from the SEC alongside Mike Elko, Josh Heupel, Brian Kelly, Clark Lea, Steve Sarkisian, and Kirby Smart.

The Alabama head coach is currently in his first season in Tuscaloosa as the leader of the Crimson Tide program where he has posted a 5-1 overall record so far. DeBoer also has the Crimson Tide currently ranked as the No. 7 team in the nation.

The Paul “Bear” Bryant Coach of the Year award is named after the former Alabama great, and has been won by two Crimson Tide head coaches since its’ inception. Gene Stallings was the first of those back in 1992, while Nick Saban took home the honor in 2020.
