Tennessee wide receiver enters the transfer portal following the regular-season.
Tennessee (10-2, 6-2 SEC) is ranked No. 7 in College Football Playoff rankings ahead of conference championship week. The Vols will not play this week and await their final College Football Playoff ranking and seeding.
Ahead of postseason play, Tennessee redshirt sophomore wide receiver Kaleb Webb plans on entering the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3.
The 6-foot-3, 204-pound wide receiver appeared in seven games for the Vols during the 2024 regular-season. He totaled six receptions for 48 yards.
Webb appeared in 23 games for Tennessee from 2022-24, totaling 22 receptions, 214 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown.
Webb went to Tennessee from McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Georgia.
“From the offseason to where we are today, he’s been very intentional,” Heupel said. “I don’t know if anybody spends more time in the building catching balls off the jugs. He’s always coming back for extra work in the middle of the day to understand what he’s doing, what he’s seeing to continue to grow within our offense, understanding defensive structure. He’s gotten a lot stronger, his lower body in particular, that’s helped him with speed, getting in and out of breaks.
“He’s just continuing on his football journey with a real purpose every day and small strides end up to big gains by the time we get to kickoff. Been really pleased with him.”
Webb played in three games (Ball State, UT Martin, Vanderbilt) in 2022 and did not record any statistics for the Vols.
Kelsey Pope discusses wide receivers Chas Nimrod and Kaleb Webb during fall camp.
Tennessee will kick off its 2023 season on Sept. 2.
The Vols will play Virginia at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee. Kickoff is slated for noon EDT and will be televised by ABC.
Following Tennessee’s seventh practice during fall training camp, wide receivers coach Kelsey Pope met with media. Pope discussed wide receivers Chas Nimrod and Kaleb Webb.
“Those two have been very impressive, both though in their own separate ways,” Pope said. “Kaleb is a bigger body, big catch radius, strong, powerful kid. Chas is more agile and very twitchy, but both of those guys have been exceptional.
“My job for those two, they haven’t seen this thing before on our level, so I have to get those guys consistent. Right now, you see flashes all over the place from both of them. Right now, it’s my job to get those guys more consistent so they are making plays consistently. You see it more on a first-second-third down basis, it is not just showing one series to the next.”
Nimrod enters his second season with the Vols. The redshirt freshman appeared in two games and did not record any statistics in 2022. He played in eight offensive snaps versus Vanderbilt and 18 against UT Martin.
Webb enters his second season at Tennessee. He played in three games (Ball State, UT Martin, Vanderbilt) and did not record any statistics last season.
The football early signing period is taking place Dec. 15-17 for the 2022 recruiting class.
Kaleb Webb has signed with Tennessee.
The 2022 signing period is the first full class under head coach Josh Heupel.
The Vols were 7-5 (4-4 SEC) in 2021 under Heupel. Tennessee will play in the TransPerfect Music City Bowl against Purdue on Dec. 30 (3 p.m. EST, ESPN).
