Former Florida offensive lineman [autotag]Kaleb Boateng[/autotag] died on Thursday. He was 21 years old. No cause of death has been reported.

Boateng spent the 2021 season with Florida as a walk-on offensive lineman after transferring from Clemson. A three-star recruit out of Fort Lauderdale High School, he spent the first two years of his career as a reserve for the Tigers before joining the Gators.

The university put out a statement on Friday.

“We are extremely saddened by the news regarding former football tea member Kaleb Boateng,” it read. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. The UAA’s team of mental health and fried counselors are available to assist the needs of all of our student-athletes and staff.”

Both of Boateng’s head coaches while at Florida, Billy Napier and Dan Mullen, publicly offered condolences on social media.

Clemson head coach Dabo Sweeney, who coached Caleb for two seasons, also put out a statement after learning the unfortunate news.

“We are deeply saddened to hear the news of Kaleb’s passing. This is a very tragic and sad situation,” Sweeney said. “Our prayers are with his family. While he was only here a couple of years before moving on, we remember Kaleb as being a good teammate and always having a good spirit to him. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family and all of those who were blessed to know him.”

Several others have paid tribute to Boateng on social media, including safeties Dakota Mitchell and Donovan McMillon, and recruiting staffers Katie Turner and Bri Wade.

Florida football gets another Clemson transfer

The Gators secure their second transfer from Clemson this year and add depth to their offensive line with this move.

Kaleb Boateng, a 2019 three-star recruit out of Fort Lauderdale High School (Fla.), is transferring to Florida from Clemson, according to 247sports.

Boateng will come to Florida as a preferred walk-on and provides some depth for the Gators offensive line. His signing comes with three years of eligibility and a day after Florida missed out on 2022 three-star OT Leyton Nelson. He joins fellow offensive tackle Austin Barber as part of offensive line coach John Hevesy’s 2021 recruiting class.

Boateng will join Demarkcus Bowman as the second Clemson Tiger to transfer to Florida this year. Unlike Bowman, Boateng was not heavily recruited by the Gators. He neither visited nor received an offer from Florida.

He stunned many by jumping at a last-minute offer from Clemson but earned limited playing time for the Tigers while there. Redshirted in his first year, Boateng leaves with just 26 snaps played over five games, albeit for a championship-caliber program.

As a preferred walk on, Boateng can earn a scholarship as time goes on. He’ll have to prove his worth with the Gators and use his experience with Clemson to work his way up the depth chart.

Florida will face Florida Atlantic, one of Boateng’s initial final three, to kick off the season on Sept. 4.
