Texans trade with Packers for CB Ka’Dar Hollman

The Houston Texans have executed a trade with the Green Bay Packers for the playing rights to cornerback Ka’Dar Hollman.

The Houston Texans believe they could use a little more depth at cornerback.

According to Aaron Wilson of Sports Talk 790, the Texans have traded with the Green Bay Packers for cornerback Ka’Dar Hollman.

Hollman is 6-0, 196 pounds and provided the Packers with some help in the secondary in 2020. The former 2019 sixth-round pick from Toledo produced 10 combined tackles and three pass breakups through 14 games, one of which he started.

The 26-year-old could also make an impact on special teams. In 2020, Hollman contributed with 165 special teams snaps compared to 108 on defense.

“Ka’dar Hollman has incredible football story,” Packers Wire managing editor Zach Kruse says. “He began his collegiate career as a walk-on at Toledo but turned himself into an NFL draft pick. He certainly has NFL-quality athleticism and mental toughness, but he just never carved out a role in Green Bay beyond backup cornerback and special teams contributor. There could be value in his ability as a gunner because he’s fast and fearless, and he can tackle.”

The Texans got a good look at Hollman on Aug. 14 in Houston’s 26-7 preseason win over the Packers at Lambeau Field. Hollman committed a defensive pass interference among the 20 defensive snaps he played and nine more on special teams.

The trade compensation details are in for the deal involving Green Bay Packers cornerback Ka’dar Hollman and the Houston Texans. The Packers will receive a seventh-round pick in the 2022 draft from the Texans in exchange for Hollman, according to the league’s transaction wire.

The pick was previously Chicago’s seventh-round pick. It was involved in the deal that sent Anthony Miller from the Bears to the Texans.

Aaron Wilson in Houston first reported the trade.

Hollman, a sixth-round pick in 2019, played in 18 games for the Packers over the last two seasons as a backup cornerback and special teams contributor. He wasn’t expected to make the 53-man roster while competing in a deep cornerback group.

This is the second time the Packers have traded with the Texans this summer. The team dealt a sixth-round pick to Houston for veteran slot receiver Randall Cobb to start training camp.

Hollman wasn’t at practice on Monday. The compensation coming back to the Packers was not immediately reported.

Hollman, who played in 18 games for the Packers over the last two seasons, was a sixth-round pick of the team in 2019. He joins Josh Jackson, a second-round pick in 2018, as draft picks traded away by the Packers in the last week.

Hollman wasn’t likely to make the 53-man roster after the Packers drafted Eric Stokes and Shemar Jean-Charles in the 2021 draft.

Overall, Hollman played 112 snaps on defense and 198 snaps on special teams over his two seasons in Green Bay.

The Packers also released 2020 fifth-round pick Kamal Martin, per ESPN’s Rob Demovsky. The team must have the roster trimmed to 80 players by Tuesday afternoon.
