Chargers highlight: Justin Herbert makes magic happen, scores vs. Titans

Justin Herbert has a way of making the Chargers offense right.

Los Angeles stalled out in the red zone on their first two scoring drives, settling for two field goals from Cameron Dicker. The Chargers threatened on their fourth drive of the game quickly, moving to the Titans 25 on a flea flicker to Joshua Palmer that gained 36 yards.

But LA again hit a bit of a snag, grinding down to a fourth and 1 from the Titans 4 yard line. The Chargers lined up to go for it out of shotgun, motioning JK Dobbins out to the slot and leaving Herbert in empty.

Normally, that would signal a pass, and Herbert’s roll to the right after the snap certainly seemed to indicate he’d try to deliver a throw. Instead, Herbert tucked the ball on a designed run, juking past Titans defensive lineman and former Charger Sebastian Joseph-Day and weaving his way into the end zone to score LA’s first touchdown of the game.

It’s Herbert’s first rushing touchdown of the year and 12th of his five-year career. The score gave the Chargers a 13-7 lead in the second quarter.

Highlight: Chargers QB Justin Herbert rushes for first score vs. Raiders

This was Justin Herbert’s second rushing touchdown of the season.

The Chargers drove the ball with little to no problem on their first drive against the Raiders.

With 3rd and 8 from the Raiders 12, Justin Herbert scanned the field but did not see any receivers come open. He had already scrambled a handful of times on the drive, so he tucked it to run again. With no defenders playing contain, Herbert found a lane down the right sideline and found the end zone for the first score of the game.

The rushing touchdown, Herbert’s second of the season, gave LA a 7-0 lead.

Another new Charger has found the end zone.

With Keenan Allen out with injury and Mike Williams held without a catch, Justin Herbert has been forced to spread the ball around. Midway through the third quarter, that necessity brought him to free agent acquisition Gerald Everett.

Running up the sideline matched up with Raiders safety Roderic Teamer, Everett hauled in a pass on his back shoulder near the goal line. Teamer’s tackle attempt then brought Everett’s momentum across the pylon and into the end zone.

It’s a key response for the Chargers after the Raiders showed some signs of life on their last offensive drive. LA now leads 24-10.

Watch: Chargers QB Justin Herbert and WR Mike Williams connect for incredible touchdown

Chargers QB Justin Herbert has been a revelation as a rookie, and he’s making more amazing plays this Sunday against the Broncos.

The list of draft analysts who got Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert wrong is long, and sadly includes this draft analyst.

Though he was limited as a quarterback outside of the deep ball with the Ducks, Herbert has been a revelation with the Chargers, who took him with the sixth overall pick in the 2020 draft. Though the Chargers came into their Sunday game with the Broncos with a 2-4 record, all of those losses were by single-score margins, and this is as dangerous a team as you’ll find in the NFL right now. Herbert is a big part of that.

Against the Broncos, he showed why once again. Herbert’s team was already up 14-3 in the third quarter when the rookie teamed up with Mike Williams for this insanely great throw and catch on a 24-yard touchdown.

Denver cornerback A.J. Bouye did the best he could in coverage, but there’s no way to counter a one-handed catch like this. The Chargers look to be heading to 3-4 on the season, and this a team you don’t want to deal with in 2020’s second half.

Watch: Chargers’ Justin Herbert throws 53-yard bomb to Tyron Johnson

The Los Angeles Chargers got on the scoreboard with a highlight reel pass by quarterback Justin Herbert.

After quarterback Tom Brady led the Buccaneers down the field for an easy score to start the game, rookie quarterback Justin Herbert answered on the first offensive drive.

The Chargers ran a play action play to allow wide receiver Tyron Johnson to get behind the defense. With Johnson wide open, Herbert used his cannon of an arm to find him for the score.

Johnson was promoted from the practice squad on Saturday.
