Texas A&M lands commitment from former Jackson State LB Jurriente Davis

Texas A&M received a huge boost to their linebacker core after former Jackson State LB Jurriente Davis commits to the Maroon and White

Boom! Texas A&M landed former Jackson State linebacker Jurriente Davis on Thursday afternoon, as the No.1 ranked LB in the transfer portal has officially found a new home with the Maroon and White after taking an official visit to College Station last week.

The Aggies needed depth at linebackers like humans need air to breathe, and they’re getting a huge boost with Davis, who ended the 2022 season with 58 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, and a career-best 75.3 PFF grade. Standing at 6-0 and around 230 lbs, Davis is a versatile option at linebacker, and in an interview with 247Sports, he explained just how A&M defensive coordinator and linebackers coach D.J. Durkin will use him at the position:

“I was very impressed with Coach Durkin…His attention to detail as a coordinator and his attention to detail about how he’d use me as far as me playing MIKE linebacker and the scheme of the defense. With that d-line, the outstanding d-line, it’d be great for me to roam and flow with those guys in front of me. I’m a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, and with a d-line like it’s like that it’s heaven.”

“Honestly, Coach Fisher is very humble and his knowledge of the game is outstanding…That’s what made him stand out for me. We had some great conversations.”

The linebacker room is led by starters in Chris Russell Sr. and Edgerrin Cooper, like sophomore Martrell Harris and Taurean York, and now Jurriente Davis looks to provide adequate depth within the always grueling SEC schedule. Congratulations, Jurriente! Gig ‘Em!

Jackson State LB Jurriente Davis reflects on visit to Texas A&M, came away ‘impressed’ by D.J. Durkin and Jimbo Fisher

Top linebacker transfer target Jurriente Davis officially visited Texas A&M over the weekend, and he summed up his experience in one word: ‘phenomenal.’

Texas A&M’s Maroon and White game saw a number of individuals descend upon College Station for Saturday’s exhibition, including one of the top linebackers in the transfer portal.

Jackson State LB transfer Jurriente Davis officially visited Texas A&M over the weekend and if there was one word that he could use to describe the experience, it would be ‘phenomenal.’

According to 247Sports, Davis met with both defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin and head coach Jimbo Fisher and came away impressed after speaking with both. Davis shed light on how he expects he could be used on defense, particularly as a MIKE linebacker, and he also spoke on the value he got from chatting with Fisher:

“I was very impressed with Coach Durkin…His attention to detail as a coordinator and his attention to detail about how he’d use me as far as me playing MIKE linebacker and the scheme of the defense. With that d-line, the outstanding d-line, it’d be great for me to roam and flow with those guys in front of me. I’m a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, and with a d-line like it’s like that it’s heaven.”

“Honestly, Coach Fisher is very humble and his knowledge of the game is outstanding…That’s what made him stand out for me. We had some great conversations.”

The former Jackson State ended the 2022 season with 58 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, and a career-best 75.3 PFF grade. His previous stops also include Middle Tennessee and Hutchinson C.C.

Davis’ talent speaks for itself after having already been offered by the likes of UCF, Louisville, and Oklahoma. He’s already made an official visit to Kentucky and will reportedly make official visits to UCF and Colorado next week.

Best of luck to him throughout the remainder of the transfer process, and here’s to hoping his next home will be College Station!

Jackson State transfer LB Jurriente Davis set for Colorado visit

A former Jackson State LB is set to visit Colorado

The Colorado Buffaloes Spring Game is a week away, but the transfer portal continues to churn at a rapid rate. This time, it is another former Jackson State player, linebacker Jurriente Davis. It turns out that Davis is set for a visit to Boulder, per Chris Hummer of 247Sports.

“…the 6-foot-1, 225-pound Davis is attracting interest from high-major schools. He’s already visited Kentucky. He’s soon set to see Texas A&M. He’ll also take visits to UCF and Colorado.”

Davis’ journey began at Hutchinson Community College before he went to Middle Tennessee and then ended up at Jackson Stae, and now he is eyeing a move to a Power Five program.

The coaching staff at Colorado, and Andre’ Hart, in particular, is a big reason why he has an interest.

“I love the coaches, especially (Andre’ Hart), that’s my dog,” Davis told 247Sports. “But we’re going to see. There’s nothing bad about them. I just want to see how it looks.”

The Buffs are gearing up for the spring game and handing out numbers, but they are still active in the transfer portal in hopes of retooling a roster that went 1-11 a season ago.
