Josh McCarron remembers it vividly.

With his mother by his side, the 10-year-old McCarron snuck into Michigan Stadium with a tour group. Gazing at the field and stands inside the Big House was a moment he will never forget.

“It was pretty insane,” McCarron told WolverinesWire. “That has kept Michigan in my brain ever since. It would be a dream come true for me to go there.”

McCarron is much older now, a 2021 four-star linebacker for Everett (Wash.) Archbishop Murphy. He’s “very interested” in the Wolverines but has yet to receive an offer from the coaching staff.

His home state has been severely impacted by the coronavirus, much like the rest of America. McCarron was planning to visit Colorado, UCLA, Texas, Northwestern and Oregon State before the NCAA halted in-person recruitment through April 15.

“Hopefully, the NCAA allows visits over the summer so I can make up for some of those,” he said.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound linebacker has offers from Boise State, California, Utah, Virginia, Washington State, Air Force, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Nevada, Princeton, San Diego State, Utah State, Virginia Tech and Yale.

But McCarron believes Michigan is a program where he’d truly fit in.

“I like the culture there,” he said. “and playing for a program like that wouldn’t be hard to fall in line with.”

McCarron has developed relationships with running backs coach Jay Harbaugh and assistant recruiting coordinator Jerret McElwain.

Oh yeah, he’s also a lifelong fan of the San Francisco 49ers, where Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh led the team from 2011-14.

As for his top list of schools, McCarron has Washington State and California locked in for his top five but will wait and see for the other three schools.

If Michigan offers, the Wolverines could be one of those teams.

“I plan to commit next football season, so we’ll see when we get there,” McCarron said.

McCarron is ranked No. 323 in the nation, No. 27 at linebacker and No. 10 in Washington, according to the 247Sports composite.
