Former LSU signee Joseph Cryer finds a new home in transfer portal

A former early enrollee for the 2024 recruiting class has now found a new home.

A former early enrollee for the 2024 recruiting class has now found a new home. [autotag]Joseph Cryer[/autotag] was a 6-foot-3, 316-pound, three-star interior offensive lineman from Natchitoches, Louisiana, where he played for Natchitoches Central High School.

Cryer flipped his commitment from Ole Miss to LSU before national signing day and signed with the LSU Tigers. He was an early enrollee and played in the LSU spring game. That spring game turned out to be the only game he would play in purple and gold.

Cryer has swapped his school colors to black and gold as he has now committed to playing for Southern Miss. The Golden Eagles finished last season 3-9 and were looking to improve their offensive line for next fall.

LSU’s 2024 recruiting class finished as the No. 9 recruiting class in the country according to 247Sports. The Tigers signed two other interior offensive linemen out of high school other than Cryer.

LSU offensive line early enrollee Joseph Cryer enters transfer portal

After just a few months on campus, Joseph Cryer is moving on.

LSU has seen another young player enter the transfer portal, and this time, it’s a guy who signed on the dotted line just a few months ago.

[autotag]Joseph Cryer[/autotag], a 2024 offensive line signee who early enrolled in Baton Rouge in January, opted to enter the transfer portal on Tuesday following his first spring practice at LSU.

A native of Natchitoches, Louisiana, Cryer was a three-star prospect who ranked just inside the top 900 nationally, per the 247Sports Composite. Originally committed to Ole Miss, Cryer flipped his pledge to the Tigers last summer and stayed committed, inking with LSU during the early signing period.

Cryer was likely a long-term development project, and his departure doesn’t significantly hurt the depth of what should be one of the best offensive lines in the country in 2024.

BREAKING: LSU lands recent Ole Miss decommit Joseph Cryer

Joseph Cryer backed off his Ole Miss commitment on Sunday shortly after receiving an LSU offer.

Well, that was fast.

LSU extended an offer to an in-state prospect committed to Ole Miss last week in [autotag]Joseph Cryer[/autotag]. The Natchitoches Central prospect decommitted from the Rebels on Sunday night, and the next day, he pledged to the Tigers.

The three-star prospect ranks just inside the top 1,000 according to 247Sports, but offensive line coach [autotag]Brad Davis[/autotag] has obviously liked what he’s seen. Now, the Tigers have managed to poach a player away from a division rival and keep him in the state of Louisiana.

It’s the second offensive lineman for the 2024 class that LSU has landed in as many days. On Sunday, three-star Texas prospect [autotag]Ory Williams[/autotag] also committed.

With those additions, LSU’s 21-man recruiting class still sits just outside the top 10 nationally, according to 247Sports.

Offensive lineman decommits from Ole Miss after receiving LSU offer

Joseph Cryer decommitted from Ole Miss on Sunday, and the LSU Tigers have now become the favorite to land him.

On Wednesday, LSU extended an offer to three-star offensive lineman [autotag]Joseph Cryer[/autotag]. Cryer is from Many, Louisiana and he plays for Natchitoches Central High School. At the time, Cryer was committed to playing for Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels.

It seems the tables have now turned.

Cryer decommitted from Ole Miss on Sunday, and the LSU Tigers have now become the favorite to land him. LSU is now an 83% favorite per On3 and he has now received five different Crystal Ball projections to LSU, as well.

LSU currently has 20 commits for the 2024 class. A class that ranks as the No. 9 class in the country currently thanks to a commitment from a three-star offensive tackle recently. The only other interior offensive lineman in the LSU class is Khayree Lee, another in-state prospect.

Cryer plays center and guard for Natchitoches Central, and he projects to play there in college, as well.

Can LSU flip recently offered in-state Ole Miss commit?

A late offer from LSU may have changed things for Louisiana prospect Joseph Cryer.

LSU recently added another in-state 2024 prospect to its offer list, this time three-star offensive lineman [autotag]Joseph Cryer[/autotag].

The Natchitoches (La.) Natchitoches Central prospect committed to Ole Miss back on June 2, but that was before he picked up an offer from the in-state power program. Cryer told On3’s Billy Embody (subscription required) that he was excited to receive the offer and had been “waiting on it.”

Cryer, who ranks either just outside or inside the top 1,000 nationally, depending on the service, has a more impressive offer list than his pedigree would indicate. Nebraska, Michigan State, Penn State, TCU and others have extended offers to the 6-foot-4, 290-pound interior lineman.

Now, Cryer has a decision to make with the chance to stay in the state of Louisiana and come to Baton Rouge.

LSU offers 2024 Ole Miss offensive line commit

Brian Kelly is hard at work on the 2024 recruiting class.

[autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] is hard at work on the 2024 recruiting class. He recently offered a 2024 offensive lineman from Many, Louisiana, who is currently committed to playing for the Ole Miss Rebels next fall.

[autotag]Joseph Cryer[/autotag] is a 6-foot-4, 290-pound, three-star offensive lineman from Many, Louisiana, where he plays for Natchitoches Central High School. The Natchitoches Central Chiefs finished the 2022 season with a 3-7 record as they failed to make the playoffs.

Cryer committed to Ole Miss on June 2, but that doesn’t mean that teams are going to stop pursuing him.

Film Analysis:Ā Cryer is a mauler that can line up at either center or guard and be very effective.
