Tampa Bay confirms two new coaching hires

The Bucs are building their new offensive staff under OC Dave Canales.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have officially confirmed two new coaching hires for the 2023 season.

The team announced on Wednesday that it was officially hiring offensive analyst David Raih and assistant quarterbacks coach Jordan Somerville. The moves come as a further offensive revamp after the departure of Byron Leftwich and the hiring of Dave Canales.

Raih most recently served as the offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach for the Vanderbilt Commodores in 2021. Prior to that, he worked as wide receivers coach with the Arizona Cardinals and in a number of different roles with the Green Bay Packers from 2014 to 2018.

Somerville was an offensive analyst at Oregon in 2022. He’s worked with Arizona State, New Mexico and USC in the past.

Bucs hiring Oregon’s Jordan Somerville as assistant QBs coach

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are adding yet another new face to their offensive coaching staff

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are adding yet another new face to their offensive coaching staff.

Jordan Somerville is joining Todd Bowles’ staff as assistant quarterbacks coach, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Somerville, 27, was most recently an offensive analyst at Oregon, following up a stint at New Mexico as the running backs coach.

He’ll now join an offensive staff that’s undergone quite the overhaul this offseason, led by the hiring of new offensive coordinator Dave Canales, and work under recently promoted Bucs quarterback coach Thad Lewis.

Report: Offensive analyst Jordan Somerville to leave for Tampa Bay Buccaneers job

A new report shows that Oregon offensive analyst Jordan Somerville will take a job with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

More coaching changes seem to be taking place with the Oregon Ducks, with another key member of the offensive staff moving on to a higher position elsewhere in the industry.

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, offensive analyst Jordan Somerville is expected to leave Eugene and take over as the assistant quarterbacks coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the NFL level. Somerville had spent one season with the Ducks after working as the RB coach and recruiting coordinator for New Mexico.

Prior to that, Somerville spent time at Arizona State as a graduate assistant, and he was one of Oregon’s stronger recruiters in the state of Arizona.

Somerville will be working under Tampa Bay’s new offensive coordinator David Canales, who accepted the position earlier this year after a strong showing in Seattle with Geno Smith and the Seahawks. The QB coach for the Buccaneers currently is Thaddeus Lewis.

This is the third offensive coach that Dan Lanning will have to replace this offseason after both offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham and offensive line coach Adrian Klemm left for bigger titles. As Lanning has said throughout his time at Oregon, this is ultimately a good thing, since it means that top-level coaches will want to come to Eugene, knowing that it will give them a chance to level up in their careers.

While the biggest positions on the coaching staff have been filled under Dan Lanning, the Oregon Ducks are going to continue to make some hires over the next few weeks as they continue to fill out the offices in the Hatfield-Dowlin Complex.

The latest hire that the Ducks made was reported on Monday night, with Pete Thamel announcing that Oregon is expected to hire New Mexico running backs coach Jordan Somerville to be the new QB analyst under offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham. On top of being the RB coach at New Mexico, Somerville was also the recruiting coordinator.

Somerville was hired at New Mexico in 2020, but has also spent time working with the Arizona State Sun Devils.
