Report: Texans plan to have joint practices with Saints, Dolphins

The Houston Texans have plans in the works to have joint training camp with the Miami Dolphins and New Orleans Saints.

The Houston Texans are getting back to a pillar of training camp that was toppled during 2020.

According to Aaron Wilson from KPRC-TV, the Texans plan to have joint practices with two teams during training camp.

The first team is the Miami Dolphins, and the joint practices would be held ahead of the Texans’ home preseason game on Aug. 19 at Houston Methodist Training Center.

The second team is the New Orleans Saints. Houston travels to the Big Easy on Aug. 27, and the joint practices would be held in the days prior at the Saints’ headquarters in Metairie, Louisiana.

The last time the Texans had joint practices was in 2019 with the Detroit Lions.

The Green Bay Packers will participate in a joint practice with the Cincinnati Bengals before the preseason opener in Cincinnati in August.

Bengals coach Zac Taylor shared the news in a press conference on Tuesday.

Taylor said the two teams will have a joint practice on Wednesday, rest on Thursday and then play a preseason game together on Friday.

The Packers are scheduled to open preseason play against the Bengals at Paycor Stadium on Aug. 11.

Taylor previously worked with Matt LaFleur and Joe Barry in Los Angeles, providing familiarity between coaching staffs in terms of putting together the joint practice.

The Packers will also host the New England Patriots for what will likely be a pair of joint practices before Green Bay’s preseason home opener a week later.

While Aaron Rodgers wasn’t a fan of joint practices, LaFleur is taking full advantage of the chance to give his young football team as many competitive opportunities as possible this summer.

The Baltimore Ravens will suit up to play in their yearly preseason game against the Washington Commanders to gear up for the 2023 season. While this has usually taken place in the final preseason game of the year Baltimore will travel to Landover, Maryland to play the Commanders on August 21st, 2023 in the second preseason game.

Before the Ravens take on the Commanders, they will hold joint practices in Baltimore on August 15th and 16th at the Under Armour Performance Center in Owings Mills. Joint practices are a way to get live reps in with players from opposing teams, which can help an organization switch things up from practicing against each other every day during training camp.

Broncos expected to host Rams for joint practice in August

The Broncos are finalizing plans to host the Rams for a joint training camp practice in August.

The Denver Broncos are still finalizing their training camp and preseason schedule, but we do know that the team will face the Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers on the road before hosting the Los Angeles Rams this summer.

Before that preseason finale against L.A., the Broncos want to host the Rams for a joint training camp practice.

“The goal is to have a joint practice with the Rams,” coach Sean Payton said on May 13. “Sean [McVay] and I have talked. Obviously, the ownership groups are connected, along with [Rams GM] Les [Sneed] and George [Paton].”

Nothing has been finalized just yet, but the two sides would like to have a joint practice session ahead of their preseason showdown on Aug. 26.

“There has been no announcement made, but our hope and goal is to have a chance to practice here,” Payton said. “I wasn’t here last year, but I know [the team] did it with Dallas. Our goal is to have a joint practice with Los Angeles and play that third [preseason] game.”

Denver hosted the Cowboys in 2022 and they have previously hosted joint sessions with the Carolina Panthers, Houston Texans, Chicago Bears, Minnesota Vikings and — most frequently — the 49ers.

The joint practice with the Rams will likely be open to the public. The Broncos announced their 2022 training camp schedule in June last year, and fans should expect an announcement for this year’s camp schedule around the same time.

Colts to host Bears for joint training camp practices

The Colts will host the Bears for joint training camp practices in August.

The Indianapolis Colts will host the Chicago Bears for joint training camp practices at the Grand Park Sports Campus in Westfield, per Mike Chappell of Fox 59.

The Colts have been hosting a team for joint training camp practices for the majority of Chris Ballard’s tenure as general manager. That hasn’t changed with Shane Steichen taking over as the new head coach.

The only season the Colts haven’t done so was during 2020 when the pandemic limited what teams could do.

This is an easy match between the two teams considering the connections from both sides. Bears head coach Matt Eberflus served as the defensive coordinator for the Colts for four seasons (2018-2021).

The aforementioned Ballard worked with Bears general manager Ryan Poles with the Kansas City Chiefs (2013-2017) and before that, Ballard was a scout for Chicago from 2001-2011 and served as the director of pro scouting in 2012.

It will be interesting to see how the teams face off, especially considering the dynamic quarterbacks both teams will be boasting.

The Colts and Bears will cap the weekend off with a preseason game at Lucas Oil Stadium on Aug. 19.

Patriots reportedly finalizing joint practices with NFC opponent

The Patriots are looking to face off with an NFC opponent in joint practices this year.

The New England Patriots are reportedly finalizing plans to travel to Wisconsin for joint practices with the Green Bay Packers, per The Athletic’s Chad Graff and Matt Schneidman.

New England will be practicing with the Packers in the first meeting between the two teams since last October. The Packers defeated the Patriots by a 27-24 margin in overtime. The game marked the first extended action for quarterback Bailey Zappe, as he filled in for the injured Mac Jones.

The Patriots are going to do two sets of joint practices, both on the road. Mike Reiss reported a couple weeks ago that the organization was in discussions with the Tennessee Titans to host a round of joint practices as well.

New England is always looking for a chance to size themselves up against the competition, and there’s no better way of doing so than going head-to-head with opposing teams on the practice field.

Highlights from Jaguars joint practices vs. Falcons

If the #Jaguars play how they’ve been practicing against the #Falcons they could lock up their first win on Saturday.

With the last week of preseason halfway gone, the Jacksonville Jaguars flashed some serious skill with some impressive highlights against the Atlanta Falcons in joint practices on Wednesday. The teams are gaining familiarity with each other at the combined practice sessions, and from the looks of it, the Jaguars are taking full advantage of the opportunity.

Several clips of the team’s dominant play surfaced on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon, showing just how exciting this Jacksonville team might be in the regular season.

Take a look at these plays, and try not to get too excited about what is to come this year:

With a few more weeks of quality practices like they had on Wednesday, the Jaguars should be in a position to play much more competitive football than they did at this point last season. They have a competent roster chock-full of rising stars on both sides of the ball, and a with a win against the Falcons could take a full head of steam into the regular season in September.

Jacksonville has managed to avoid the injury bug in the preseason, and as the old adage goes, the best ability in the NFL is availability. If they can escape the intense joint practices this week with the top-end of their roster remaining injury-free, they should have a good chance to surprise some teams who underestimate the squad they’ve put together in head coach Doug Pederson’s first season.

It’ll take time to see how the Jaguars convert on the promise of their 2022 season, but for now, especially with the excellent videos coming out of practices, the future looks as bright as ever in Duval County. Given how excellent the team has looked in these preseason opportunities to shine, fans should expect nothing less than marked improvement over their 2021 campaign this year.

Falcons recap: Deion Jones returns, Avery Williams plays CB

The Falcons held the first of two joint practices with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Wednesday.

The Atlanta Falcons held the first of two scheduled joint practice sessions with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Wednesday as the teams get ready to face off in Week 3 of the 2022 NFL preseason.

One day after trimming the roster down to 80 players, the Falcons activated linebacker Deion Jones from the PUP list. Wide receiver Damiere Byrd and QB/TE Feleipe Franks each caught touchdown passes, and running back Avery Williams got some work in at defensive back.

Check out all the highlights and updates from Wednesday’s joint practice session below.

Falcons recap: Highlights from Friday’s joint practice with Jets

The Atlanta Falcons participated in the first of two joint practices with the New York Jets on Friday.

The Atlanta Falcons participated in the first of two joint practices with the New York Jets on Friday, and things got chippy.

Multiple fights broke out between the two teams, despite the Falcons having a no-tolerance fighting policy. Rookie QB Desmond Ridder got to face off against his old Cincinnati teammate, Jets CB Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner. Meanwhile, WR Drake London made the trip but missed practice.

Live updates from Packers’ joint practice No. 2 with Saints

Follow along with all the live news and updates from the Packers’ second joint practice with the Saints on Wednesday.

The Green Bay Packers will finish up the second of two joint practices with the New Orleans Saints on Wednesday in Green Bay. Matt LaFleur’s team battled the visiting Saints on the practice field on Tuesday, and they’ll do it again Wednesday before Friday’s preseason game at Lambeau Field.

A quick recap of Day 1 can be found here.

Follow along below as we provide live updates from the practice on Wednesday:

– Coach Matt LaFleur wasn’t happy with all the pre-snap penalties by the offense during Tuesday’s practice. “Can’t happen.”

– LaFleur stressed the “urgency” of getting mistakes corrected, especially from young players. He said Wednesday will be an important day for some of the young players to bounce back.

– Once again, LaFleur said there will be no one-on-ones between the Packers and Saints during practice on Wednesday.

– LaFleur said Rashan Gary will practice on Wednesday after he was held out for “precautionary” reasons to end practice on Tuesday.

– More right tackle work for Elgton Jenkins during individual drills.

– The Packers released wide receiver Malik Taylor, per Tom Silverstein. Taylor had only just returned from a shoulder injury.

– The new Packers safety is De’Vante Cross. He’s wearing No. 35.

– Receiver Danny Davis (ankle) and cornerback Rico Gafford (ankle) are both out on Wednesday with new injuries. Both are very much on the roster bubble, so time missed is a big deal.

– More big-time disruption from the defense, which dominated the first day.

– It’s time to start considering Kobe Jones for a 53-man roster spot. He was terrific in the preseason opener and keeps making splash plays during the joint practices.

– While the defense might be controlling the action on one end, the Packers offense keeps having issues.

Yikes. Not the bounce-back performance LaFleur and Aaron Rodgers were hoping for after Tuesday.

– Another big play from Sammy Watkins. He’s making the team, and he’s likely to be a starter. There’s trust building between No. 12 and No. 11.

– Jordan Love throws a couple of touchdown passes with the No. 2 offense.

– While Romeo Doubs and Amari Rodgers are the top punt returners, Christian Watson was with the return group on Wednesday.

Big play from Saints rookie Chris Olave vs. the coverage of Rasul Douglas.

– Another pressure from rookie Kingsley Enagbare, who has been terrific over the the last week.

– The No. 1 defenses win both two-minute periods. Rodgers was sacked on fourth down to finish the Packers’ attempt. Romeo Doubs caught a pair of passes, and Sammy Watkins got the offense near the red zone, but the march stalled. Kobe Jones helped end the Saints’ attempt.

– Another big play from Jordan Love. Good practice from the backup quarterback. His long touchdown pass to Samori Toure ended the joint practices with a bang for the Packers.
