Former Duke basketball player Nolan Smith could join forces with fellow Blue Devil Johnny Dawkins on the UCF coaching staff soon, according to one social media report.
College basketball insider Zyavier Ricks reported earlier this week that Smith, who previously worked for the Louisville Cardinals, would end up on the Knights’ coaching staff next season.
Smith played for Duke from the 2007-08 season through the 2010-11 season, playing at least 30 games in all four campaigns. His 1,911 career points are the 18th-most in program history and the fourth-most of any player who began his career in 2007 or later.
Smith joined legendary Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski’s coaching staff back in 2016 before he joined the Cardinals in 2022.
Dawkins, to his credit, finished with 2,556 career points, the program record when he left in 1986. He’s now second to JJ Redick, but Dawkins remains the school leader in field goals attempted and made. He’s coached the Knights since 2016 after an eight-year stint at Stanford.

UCF made the tournament once during Dawkins’ tenure, the year Tacko Fall and the Knights fell to the Blue Devils in the second round.
