Boxing great [autotag]Floyd Mayweather[/autotag] returned Saturday for another exhibition bout as he battled [autotag]John Gotti III[/autotag], the son of the infamous American mobster.

The rematch at Arena CDMX in Mexico City was eight two-minute rounds and headlined a DAZN pay-per-view event.

One day after the fight, DAZN has released a full highlight video of the contest, which can be viewed above.

Floyd Mayweather dominates John Gotti III in exhibition that includes bizarre referee substitution

Well, this is a new one: Floyd Mayweather kicked the referee out of the ring mid-fight vs. John Gotti III.

The rematch between [autotag]Floyd Mayweather[/autotag] and [autotag]John Gotti III[/autotag] included no brawl. Just more Mayweather domination.

And boos.

The crowd voiced its displeasure after the eight-round exhibition in Mexico City.

There were no knockdowns. No glassy-eyed looks. No staggering.

Because the fight was an exhibition, it was not officially scored. But Mayweather, 47, dominated Gotti, 31, the grandson of late crime boss John Gotti. Mayweather was able to hit Gotti with relative ease and connected plenty — but he never rocked his opponent.

“Gotti is tough as nails.” Mayweather said after the fight.

Mayweather praised Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., who was there as part of the broadcast team, then said “Mexico City, I love you guys. Thanks for coming out.’’

The fans cheered.

The first fight between Mayweather and Gotti, in June 2023, ended in a brawl after the referee stopped the fight in the sixth round because of excessive trash talk and holding. Gotti maneuvered around the referee and threw punches at Mayweather and members of the fighters’ camps flooded into the ring as a melee broke out.

There were moments of tension Saturday. Gotti grew agitated when the rounds, which were supposed to be two minutes, ran long. And Mayweather looked angry when the referee warned him about punches to the back of Gotti’s head. In fact, a new referee entered the ring.

But it was largely peaceful — more peaceful than the crowd hoped for, seemingly — and it ended with Mayweather and Gotti embracing.

“He’s my guy,” Mayweather said of Gotti, with his arm around his opponent. “But we had to put on a show for the people. And I want to thank Gotti for being a man of his word and we ran it back twice.”

Gotti said Mayweather “hit hard.”

“He’s still got it,” Gotti said.

What’s next for Floyd Mayweather?

Not an exhibition with Julio Cesar Chavez Sr.

During an in-ring interview after the fight, Mayweather embraced the 62-year-old Chavez.

“He’s one of the legends I look up to and he paved the way for me,’’ Mayweather said.

But the two getting into the ring to box? “He’s older now, and if I do an exhibition with him it’s not going to look good for me,’’ Mayweather said.

Earlier this week, Mayweather said he’d been offered a deal for three more exhibitions but provided no additional details.

“We just got a call about a three-exhibition deal and it’s a crazy number. …So, we don’t know,” Mayweather said.

John Gotti III: Win over Floyd Mayweather would be historic, exhibition fight or not

The last time Floyd Mayweather and John Gotti fought, all hell broke loose.

[autotag]John Gotti III[/autotag] says he didn’t care if he never saw F[autotag]loyd Mayweather[/autotag] ever again.

But when the rematch was presented, it was an easy yes.

The Mayweather vs. Gotti 1 exhibition bout in June 2023 ended in controversy and pandemonium. Gotti was disqualified in Round 6 for frequent fouls – and that’s when a big in-ring melee broke out between the teams.

“As a fighter, emotions and tensions are running high,” Gotti recently told MMA Junkie. “The fight became very personal very early. Floyd became his verbal assault, and physical, right from the opening bell. I wasn’t going to lay down and show my belly for anybody. If I had submitted, I think Kenny Bayless would’ve been OK with it. But I’m not going to take anybody’s stuff. When I started verbally attacking him back, it became a problem. I think the hypocrisy there is a little confusing to me.”

What happened, happened. Eventually, heads cooled, at least enough to revisit doing business with one another. Mayweather, 47, and Gotti, 31, agreed to rematch, but it took over a year to get a finalized date on the books.

The exhibition rematch takes place Saturday at Arena CDMX in Mexico City. While Gotti doesn’t take what Mayweather yapped in the ring as anything beyond gamesmanship, there is unfinished business.

“The fight was unfinished. I think the fight was just getting good to be honest. The fifth and sixth rounds were the most interesting rounds of the fight. I was perplexed why they stopped the fight, to be honest with you. … The fight was just getting interesting. I was starting to feel good and I was getting settled in. Floyd punched himself out, whether he liked it or not. His output was almost gone at that point. He was throwing just jabs in the fifth and sixth round. He thought he was going to come in there and knock me out. He thought I was going to lay down and he thought wrong.”

Gotti wishes the Mayweather fight was professional and not exhibition. But at 50-0, Mayweather seems content not risking the zero during the twilight of his career, Exhibition or not, Gotti thinks a win over Mayweather would be historic.

“People are still going to watch the fight,” Gotti said. “They’re still going to judge the rounds of the fight. If I go in there and win some rounds on him and look good doing it on him convincingly, he’ll be leaving an impression on people. So it’s important. Floyd definitely treats it like a pro fight. I’ve never seen Floyd more determined and aggressive in any fight in his entire career.”

The grandson of the infamous gangster who sported the same name, he first appeared on the combat sports radar in MMA. After five straight wins to kick off his pro career, Gotti lost for the first time in October 2020. He then pivoted to pro boxing, where he went 2-0.

Saturday’s match will tell Gotti which career path he should go down.

“I think this fight is going to be very telling of my future,” Gotti said. “I’m going to wait and see how this fight plays out. If all goes well, I’m sure proper opportunities will come up in boxing. I’m definitely open to coming back to MMA at some point. I’m not ever going to leave on a loss. I’ll at least try to come back to MMA and finish my career on a win. My last fight didn’t go as planned. This came into our hands, the Floyd Mayweather fight. So listen, we take it one fight at a time.”

A huge brawl erupted after Floyd Mayweather’s exhibition against John Gotti III ended in disqualification

This was WILD.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is retired from boxing, but every once in awhile he hops in a ring for an exhibition bout to give fans a glimpse of the fighter who went 50-0 in his professional career.

That was the scene Sunday in Sunrise, Florida, when Mayweather was in the ring with John Gotti III and all hell broke loose in the middle of the sixth round. Apparently, the tactics Mayweather used to become an undefeated fighter were as sharp as ever because Gotti got himself disqualified for repeatedly grabbing.

Unsatisfied with the result, Gotti rushed past referee Kenny Bayless to throw more hands, which prompted each fighter’s team to rush the ring and turned into absolute chaos.

The best part of this whole thing is how calm Mayweather remained as a clearly irate Gotti rushed him. It’s almost as if they were fighting already and Mayweather knew there was nothing to worry about.

It’s especially impressive considering Mayweather, 46, is 16 years the senior of Gotti, whose name sounds familiar because he’s the grandson of an infamous New York mobster.

Gotti is 2-0 in his professional career and also has a 5-1 pro MMA record.

Watch it: Floyd Mayweather-John Gotti III exhibition erupts into chaos

Watch it: Floyd Mayweather-John Gotti III exhibition erupted into chaos on Saturday in Sunrise, Florida.

The best action Sunday at FLA Live Arena in Sunrise, Florida, occurred after the Floyd Mayweather-John Gotti III exhibition.

The retired Hall of Famer toyed with his far less-experienced opponent for five rounds, fighting with his hands down, playing to the crowd and doing a lot of talking.

Then, in Round 6, the trash talk led to chaos. Referee Kenny Bayless, evidently tired of the fighters’ clinching and non-stop verbal exchanges, suddenly stopped the fight.

The move enraged the grandson of reputed gangster John Gotti, who wanted to continue and refused to stop throwing punches. He even pushed Bayless out of the way so he could get at Mayweather.

All that triggered a full-blown brawl inside the ring involving members of the fighters’ teams.

Both of the fighters evidently were able to get out of the ring unscathed after the chaos erupted. It’s not clear whether anyone else was injured during the melee.

It was the 46-year-old Mayweather’s seventh exhibition since he last took part in a sanctioned bout in 2017, when he stopped Conor McGregor.

Gotti, 30, has minimal experience in both boxing and mixed martial arts.

Video: Floyd Mayweather vs. John Gotti III ends in mayhem after disqualification

Watch all hell break loose as Floyd Mayweather and John Gotti trade blows after the fight was waved off – and their entourages rush the ring.

All hell broke loose Sunday upon the conclusion of an exhibition match between boxing legend [autotag]Floyd Mayweather[/autotag] and the grandson of an infamous New York mobster, [autotag]John Gotti III[/autotag], in Sunrise, Fla.

Midway through Round 6 of 8, Gotti was disqualified by referee Kenny Bayless for repeatedly grabbing Mayweather. The decision fired up Gotti, who shoved the referee aside and charged Mayweather as he through punches.

Both Mayweather and Gotti roll deep with entourages, who rushed the ring and created a chaotic scene as each combatant was shoved seemingly every which way.

Prior to the stoppage at FLA Live Arena, Mayweather played to the crowd as he taunted and showboated his way through the first five rounds. Despite the unfortunate ending, Mayweather pockets another exhibition win.

Mayweather, 46, has not competed in a professional bout since August 2017. However, the bout vs. Gotti marked his seventh exhibition match. Other exhibition opponents have included Logan Paul, Deji Olatunji, and Aaron Chalmers.

Gotti, 30, is a 2-0 professional boxer, who also compiled a 5-1 pro MMA record from 2017 to 2020.

Floyd Mayweather vs. John Gotti III: Underdog in awe of Hall of Famer but confident

Floyd Mayweather vs. John Gotti III: The underdog is in awe of the Hall of Famer but confident he’ll perform well in their exhibition.

Floyd Mayweather has another exhibition opponent who thinks he has what it takes to get the better of the Hall of Famer.

John Gotti III, the grandson of the famous gangster of the same name, is scheduled to tangle with Mayweather on June 11 at FLA Live Arena in Sunrise, Florida. And he says the all-time great had better be ready for a challenge.

Gotti was asked during a news conference to compare himself to Mayweather’s other opponents.

“I’m better than all of them,” said Gotti, who is 2-0 as a boxer and reportedly 5-1 as a MMA fighter. “… Logan Paul and Deji were in the ring pleading with Floyd, ‘It’s an exhibition. C’mon champ, chill.’ These are boxers?

“… They’re a joke with a big following on Instagram or whatever they got. I established my own identity in MMA and now boxing. I’m not here to play. I’m here to fight.”

Mayweather sat on the same stage as Gotti made his comments. And the 46-year-old approved.

“I love his confidence,” he said of Gotti. “It doesn’t matter, whenever you compete at the highest level, at any level, you have to believe in yourself. And what’s great about him is he believes in his skills, in his talent.

“He built his own name. All you can do is respect that.”

Gotti’s confidence doesn’t mean he isn’t in awe of his famous opponent. He is.

He said he grew up idolizing Mayweather. The fact he will share a ring with him is surrealistic.

He was asked whether he could’ve imagined this opportunity before he went into the fight business.

“Not in a million years times 10,” he said, which made Mayweather chuckle. “Like I said, before YouTube, I was watching Floyd videos ad nauseum. … To be up here getting ready to fight him is a pinch-me moment.

“Like I said, I have to take advantage of this opportunity [because] it only comes so often. And that’s what I’m going to do.”

That’s what they all say.
