Sixers assistant John Bryant to leave and join Billy Donovan, Bulls

Former Philadelphia 76ers assistant John Bryant will join Billy Donovan and the Chicago Bulls.

The Philadelphia 76ers are a team that is continuing to make a bunch of different changes up and down their organization. Wednesday has been a busy day for the Sixers as they hired Daryl Morey to run their basketball operations and they hired two new assistants.

With those moves, that means guys who have been on the coaching staff have to leave and find new jobs. Recently, guys like Joseph Blair and Kevin Young have left to take on new jobs with different teams now another assistant under former coach Brett Brown is leaving as well.

The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Keith Pompey reports that John Bryant is now leaving and will join Billy Donovan and the Chicago Bulls. Donovan, of course, was a candidate to take the job with the Sixers before going to Chicago.

Philadelphia will now be looking to move on under new coach Doc Rivers as well as with Morey and general manager Elton Brand running things from the front office. The Sixers will be looking for more success on the basketball court following a rough 2019-20 season. [lawrence-related id=38688,38676,38674]

Sixers assistant coach John Bryant had racial slur used against him

Philadelphia 76ers assistant coach John Bryant had a racial slur used against him on Sunday.

Tensions have been high in the United States since the killing of George Floyd while in police custody in Minneapolis, Minnesota in late May. There have been protests throughout the country as all 50 states have participated as well as other countries in the world as everybody seeks some real change within the justice system.

It has spilled into regular life as Philadelphia 76ers assistant coach John Bryant had a terrible experience on Sunday. He took to Twitter to share his experience as he was fixing his wife’s bike in the backyard after getting home from church and had a racial slur thrown his way from his next-door neighbor. The response was after Bryant just said a simple “hello”.

Please be advised that the tweet below contains language that some might consider offensive.

This is just another example of why guys like Tobias Harris and Matisse Thybulle participated in the protests so far. Change has to happen in America and professional athletes have that big platform to use. It is their right to use it in a positive way. [lawrence-related id=33040,33023,33016]
