In 2019, 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo threw 13 interceptions. While that’s not a super-low amount, he’s only thrown three in the last six weeks.
“He doesn’t turn the ball over very much,” Vikings defensive coordinator George Edwards said Wednesday in preparation for Saturday’s playoff game between the two teams. “You can see he’s getting the ball out of his hands. He’s getting good reads, getting the ball out of his hands. He’s getting it to the playmakers, which they have a lot of playmakers on offense. The biggest thing is you can just tell he has a better feel for what they’re trying to do schematically.”
The turning point(s) in Sunday’s win over the Saints was that the Vikings were able to force Drew Brees, who had thrown just four interceptions all season, into an interception and a forced fumble.
If the Vikings can force Garoppolo into bad decisions (which will likely be led by Everson Griffen and Danielle Hunter), that will go a long way towards another upset and a trip to the NFC Championship game.
