‘I don’t worry about what people think. I know what we can do:’ Jimbo Fisher speaks before Aggies’ 17th fall camp practice

Jimbo Fisher spoke on Texas A&M’s recent fall scrimmage, the ongoing QB competition, true freshmen standouts, and more during his time at the podium Monday afternoon.

As the start of the 2023 college football season draws near for Texas A&M football, Head Coach Jimbo Fisher once again took the podium on Monday for his weekly press conference.

After the Aggies held their second fall camp scrimmage this past Saturday, Fisher spoke on his assessment of the team during that aforementioned scrimmage, while highlighting the handful of true freshmen such as offensive lineman Chase Bisontis and linebacker Taurean York who continue to impress and perform beyond their years. Fisher also addressed the versatile skillset that the Maroon and White have in their running back room, which will be a key group to follow throughout the 2023 campaign.

Naturally, Fisher addressed the ongoing position battle at quarterback between sophomore Conner Weigman and senior Max Johnson. In what has felt like the worst kept secret, both signal-callers have battled neck-and-neck for the starting job with the consensus belief that a decision on the starter will ultimately be made right up to the buzzer before Texas A&M’s Week 1 opener versus New Mexico on Sep. 2nd.

Below is Jimbo Fisher’s full press conference video from Kyle Field Media Center on Monday, as well as notable highlights from his time at the podium.

‘Everything you do in football is about one thing. It’s about execution’: Jimbo Fisher kicks off fall practice

Before the team held its first football practice of the season, head coach Jimbo Fisher spoke with the media about the QB competition, the depth on the roster, and of course Bobby Petrino.

To all the Aggie fans out there, we can officially proclaim those sweet words: football season has arrived! Texas A&M enters a pivotal 2023 season as they look to rebound from an underwhelming campaign a season ago. Before the regular season kicks off, the Maroon and White will first get to work through fall practice.

Before the team held its first fall season practice on Wednesday afternoon, head coach Jimbo Fisher and right guard Layden Robinson spoke with the media. As has been the case throughout much of talkin’ season, Fisher spoke on a variety of topics, such as the quarterback competition between Conner Weigman and Max Johnson, his analysis of the current linebacker and offensive line depth, and naturally, his thoughts on offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino’s prominent personality.

While this team’s play on the field will ultimately determine the season’s trajectory, understanding the mindset heading into the pivotal fall action proves just as valuable. As we witnessed a year ago, failing to buckle down on the fundamentals and lack of the right demeanor can easily turn a promising season sideways.

Here is everything Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher said ahead of the start of fall football practice.

Jimbo Fisher’s Monday Press Conference: Week 10 quotes

Week 9 of the 2022 college football season is officially in the books, and Texas A&M are still churning ahead after falling to Ole Miss 31-28, dropping their fifth game of the season, and their straight in what has been an extremely frustrating season.

Nevertheless, freshman quarterback Conner Weigman’s 338 yards, and 4-touchdown performance in his first career start against a tough Ole Miss squad proved that Texas A&M’s dreadful offense was simply just a new signal caller away from showing some explosion and consistency, and has reeled the fan base back in as the team prepares to finish strong with four games remaining in the season.

As the 3-5 Aggies prepare to take on the 4-4 Florida Gators in a matchup of preseason darlings turned surprising underachievers, both teams have a lot left to fight for, including reaching bowl eligibility, and creating momentum that can continue into 2023. On Monday, head coach Jimbo Fisher and select players spoke to the local meeting to reflect on the close loss to Ole Miss, and look towards their ensuing matchup with the always-competitive Florida Gators.

Head coach Jimbo Fisher’s press conference after the Aggies’ loss to South Carolina

Texas A&M dropped its third game in a row after falling to the South Carolina Gamecocks 30-24 on Saturday night while reaching a dreadful 3-4 record, with a 1-3 mark in the SEC.

Texas A&M trailed from start to finish, as the Gamecocks burst out to a 17-0 lead after 5 minutes played, yet the Aggies mounted a short comeback to cut into the deficit after two Randy Bond field goals, and a Haynes King touchdown pass to tight end Max Wright (plus the two-point conversion) with 2:00 minutes left in the 2nd quarter making it 17-14 at the half.

In the second half, the Aggies held the momentum edge, yet it seemed that the team didn’t get the message, as both sides stalled offensively until an 18-yard touchdown run by Gamecocks running back Marshawn Lloyd with 3 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. However, Texas A&M’s stout defense stepped up once again as Edge Fadil Diggs sack-fumbled quarterback Spencer Rattler which eventually set up a 15-yard Devon Achane rushing touchdown making it 24-21 going into the 4th quarter.

With a chance to take the lead after another defensive stop, quarterback Haynes King, who had already taken quite the beating due to the offensive line’s horrendous play throughout the night, hurt his shoulder which vaulted freshman Conner Weigman into the starting spot, who completed 8-15 for 91 yards on the night but did not have time in the pocket to make the throws when it mattered most.

After a long South Carolina offensive drive, Marshawn Lloyd scampered in for his second rushing touchdown on the night, and after a Randy bond field goal and a last-second hail mary attempt by the Aggies after recovering the onside kick, the game was over, and the Bonham Trophy will be making its way to Columbia, South Carolina.

With that, here are the most notable quotes from head coach Jimbo Fisher, Layden Robinson, and Fadil Diggs.

Watch: Jimbo Fisher’s press conference after Aggies’ loss to Alabama

Watch: Head coach Jimbo Fisher spoke after Texas A&M fell to Alabama 24-20

I’ve seen them win, I’ve seen them lose, but I’ve never (or at least rarely) seen them quit, and after the Aggies fell to the No.1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide 24-20 on Saturday night, that same feeling came over me after the shock of almost pulling off the upset in the final seconds eventually started to wear off.

Going into the matchup, Texas A&M was a -24 point underdog after coming off of their embarrassing 42-24 loss to Mississippi State a week prior, as the undefeated Crimson Tide, and practically the entire sports media landscape smelled blood in the water before the Aggies could even make their case.

Quarterback Haynes King made his third start of the season taking over for the injured Max Johnson while throwing for 253 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception in what was his toughest performance to date, with two of his scores coming off of two of the four Alabama turnovers, spotting the Aggies 17 out of the 20 points on the night.

Freshman wide receiver Evan Stewart recorded his first 100-yard receiving game while snagging an incredible sideline catch in the 4th quarter, while freshman tight end Donovan Green notched his first career touchdown catch in the second quarter to tie the game at 14-14, while sophomore wideout Moose Muhammad continued his streak of stellar play recording 6 receptions for 64 yards and a touchdown.

The story of the night and the silver lining for the team? The defense was stellar, tough, resilient, and most of all showed impressive consistency. As defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin implemented the 4-man front against the Tide, the Aggies accounted for 4 sacks on the night, with Sophomore Fadil Diggs accounting for 2 sacks on his own.

After the loss, head coach Jimbo Fisher, Layden Robinson, and Fadil Diggs spoke to the media, and courtesy of Texas A&M Athletics, here is what they had to say:

Jimbo Fisher’s Monday press conference: Week 4 quotes

The headline coming into the Aggies week 3 matchup with the Miami Hurricanes was the change at the quarterback position for the Aggies, as veteran Max Johnson replaced the struggling Haynes King in his first career start with the program.

In what was a low-scoring affair marred by pre-game suspensions, controversial targeting calls, and attrition near the end of the game, Johnson, along with running back Devon Achane, and wide receiver Ainias Smith led the offense to 3 scoring drives and held on to win 17-9, while an outstanding defensive effort prevented the Hurricanes from scoring a single touchdown.

On Monday, Jimbo Fisher and a group of players including Albert Regis, Devon Achane, Ainias Smith, and Edgerrin Cooper spoke to the local media, answering questions about their recent victory, while looking forward to their all-important week 4 matchup vs. the Arkansas Razorbacks at AT&T Stadium.

Head Coach Jimbo Fisher speaks after stunning 17-14 loss to Appalachian State

Texas A&M entered this weekend 1-0, ranked 6th in both the AP and USA Today coaches polls, and looked to make a statement at home against an Appalachian State team that was coming off of a heartbreaking 63-61 shootout against North Carolina last Saturday.

In one of the ugliest, sloppiest, and just plain embarrassing performances by an Aggies team in recent memory, Texas A&M fell to the Mountaineers 17-14, as the game honestly felt like it was never in question for the king slayers of the Sun Belt conference.

Appalachian State head coach Shawn Clark came into the game wanting to control the line of scrimmage, and wear down the Aggies’ talented, but young defensive line, and that plan worked to perfection as the Mountaineers completely controlled the time of possession, holding a 41:30 to 18:30 advantage. Led by veteran quarterback Chase Brice and running back Camerun Peoples, the two combined for 246 of their 314 total yards on offense for the Mountaineers.

For the Aggies, The offensive line was once again a problem throughout the first half, while barely seeing the field in the second half to really right any wrongs. Quarterback Haynes King was erratic in the pocket (mostly due to pressure in his face), and inaccurate for most of the day, failing to hit his receivers late in the last 3 minutes of the 4th quarter with a chance to take the lead or tie the game.

With that, head coach Jimbo Fisher and select players spoke to the media after the game, as Fisher proceeded to take the mic first. Here are his most notable quotes:
