At kicker, Sam Ficken is progressing well from a groin injury and his status is trending upwards for Sunday’s contest.

Even if he had returned before Sunday, Mims would have had to receive back-to-back negative tests in order to play.

Sam Darnold expected to start vs. Dolphins in Week 12

Sam Darnold will be back under center for the Jets in Week 12 after missing the past two games with a shoulder injury, Adam Gase announced Friday.
“It’s been a good week for Sam,” Gase said, according to team reporter Ethan Greenberg. Darnold got a full practice on Thursday after being limited Wednesday.
Gase is especially excited to see Darnold play with a healthy complement of receivers. Breshad Perriman, Denzel Mims, and Jamison Crowder are all healthy for the third consecutive game.
The Jets averaged 27.5 points per game in the past two contests with Joe Flacco at the helm and a healthy offense.
It’s been a disappointing third year for Darnold. He’s only thrown for 1,045 yards with three touchdowns and six interceptions in six games this season.
Darnold missed the Jets’ first meeting with the Dolphins earlier this season with a shoulder injury that forced him out of Weeks 5 and 6

Adam Gase announced on Monday that Sam Darnold will be out against the Chargers in Week 11. Joe Flacco will start in Darnold’s place again.
Gase added that it was a “consensus” decision not to start Darnold this week, including doctors in and out of the building, per ESPN’s Rich Cimini.
The Jets have not yet discussed placing Darnold on injured reserve, but neither Gase nor Darnold seemed overly optimistic about the quarterback’s chances of returning in Week 12.
Darnold said based on what he was told by the doctors, that it was still the right decision to play against the Chiefs in Week 8.
As for the remaining injuries, Mekhi Becton who left Week 9’s loss with a chest injury, appears “good to go” for Sunday’s game. So, the rookie left tackle will play against the Chargers.
The hope for Quinnen Williams (hamstring) is that he will be limited in practice this week after missing New York’s previous game against the Patriots

The Jets added some depth to their cornerback room. New York announced on Wednesday that it has claimed cornerback Corey Ballentine off waivers from the Giants.
Ballentine played in nine games for the Giants this season, but only started in two of them. He was the Giants’ second cornerback until he lost his job to Issac Yiadom.
After that, he was mainly used on special teams by the Giants. Ballantine has registered 15 total tackles this season.
Ballentine was originally a sixth-round pick out of Washburn University in 2019. He played in 13 games in 2019 with two starts and recorded 26 total tackles, two pass defenses and one quarterback hit
