While the Jets’ new uniforms took some heat at the time of their unveiling, they aren’t as bad as some of the more recent releases this offseason. Compared to the Rams and Falcons uniform redesigns, the Jets got pretty lucky with their new look.
At least that’s this particular website’s opinion.
However, those at Complex Sports don’t agree. They ranked all 32 NFL uniforms for the 2020 season and the Jets came in dead last.
Here’s Complex Sports explanation for the Jets spot in their rankings:
The Jets have the worst uniforms in the NFL and it ain’t even close. Their new look, which debuted last season and should be compared to something you’d see up in the CFL or Saturdays in Conference USA, is unassailably awful. Seriously, the Jets are dressed like a bunch of amateurs every week except when they wear their all-black uniforms. That’s when they look like complete clowns since black isn’t in their color scheme. Never has been. Never should be. Nike can’t redesign this disaster fast enough.
Now, the Jets’ uniforms don’t stand a chance against those of the Chargers, Raiders, Saints, Steelers and Cowboys, which are ranked 1-5, respectively, on Complex’s list. Still, it’s a massive stretch to call the Jets’ uniforms the worst in the NFL. At worst, they should be ranked between 15 and 20.
When New York released its new uniforms in April 2019, it was met with a bit of disappointment from fans and critics alike after months of anticipation. Some viewed the build-up and marketing on social media to be better than the actual release of the uniforms themselves.

The Jets went with a new green called “Gotham,” with the two primary uniforms being green tops with white bottoms and white tops with green bottoms. For the first time in franchise history, the Jets released all-black alternate uniforms. Those were the uniforms met with the most opposition, but after a full season of wearing them, they began to grow on critics. The all-black design is a nice, clean look only worn three times a season and they’re perfect for primetime games under the lights.
New York’s uniforms should be looked at like the middle of the road uniforms they are. It is not an upgrade over the old look, which was an ode to the classic throwbacks worn by the Jets’ 1968 Super Bowl-winning team. Instead, these new uniforms try to capture the Jets of the late 70s to early 90s when kelly green was in fashion.
Despite what Complex says about the uniforms, the Jets can take comfort in the fact that they don’t have the worst in the NFL. A few teams ended that conversation pretty quickly this offseason.
