Winnipeg Jets vs. Calgary Flames odds, picks and best bets

NHL betting analysis around the Winnipeg Jets vs. Calgary Flames Tuesday matchup, with NHL odds, spreads and betting lines to exploit.

The Winnipeg Jets and Calgary Flames reconvene for Game 3 of their Western Conference qualification round series Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. ET at Rogers Place in Edmonton, one of two hub locations for the NHL restart. We analyze the Jets-Flames NHL betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Series: Tied 1-1.

Jets vs. Flames: Projected starting goalies

Connor Hellebuyck vs. David Rittich

Hellebuyck bounced back in Game 2, stopping 28 of the 30 shots to help his team snuff out the Flames by a 3-2 score, evening their best-of-five series 1-1. It will be interesting to see how he and his team bounce back a little more than 24 hours after their emotional victory. In addition, the Jets were without star forwards Patrik Laine (wrist) and Mark Scheifele (leg), as both left the Game 1 loss with injuries. Scheifele’s injury, a controversial one after being blasted by  Flames LW Matthew Tkachuk, appears to be more of the longer-term variety.

Rittich (24-17-6, 2.97 GAA, .907 SV%) was an All-Star this season, but interim head coach Geoff Ward elected to ride with Cam Talbot to start the playoffs. Talbot allowed four goals in two games, which is a pretty strong showing, but with a back-to-back, and a quicker than normal turnaround at that, look for Rittich to get the nod in Game 3.

Prediction

Flames 4, Jets 2

Moneyline (ML)

The FLAMES (-150) are moderate favorites. They’re 4-1 in the past five tries when playing in the second end of a back-to-back set. They’re also 4-1 in the previous five in the third of a 3-in-4 situation (three games in four days). On the other hand, the Jets (+125) are just 3-13 in their past 16 in the third of a 3-in-4 situation. While the Jets are quite a bit rested after nearly a five-month hiatus due to COVID-19, it’s still difficult playing three games in four days, and they’re usually not very good at it regardless of the circumstances.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Flames to win returns a profit of $6.67, while a $10 wager on the Jets would result in a profit of $12.50.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The FLAMES -1.5 (+185) are worth a small-unit play at this price point, as they should be able to bounce back after Monday’s disappointing setback. Despite what happened in Game 2, they’re still the healthier team, and they have more offensive weapons with Laine and Scheifele out.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 5.5 (+115) is also a decent wager at plus-money. It won’t be a fire-wagon hockey game, but we should see at least six goals. Again, not to harp on Laine and Scheifele being out, but that’s Winnipeg’s biggest concern. Can the Jets’ role players step up again and fill the void? That’s the biggest question.

Winnipeg Jets vs. Calgary Flames odds, picks and best bets

NHL betting analysis around the Winnipeg Jets vs. Calgary Flames Monday matchup, with NHL odds, spreads and betting lines to exploit.

The Winnipeg Jets will try to even up their qualification round series with the Calgary Flames Monday at Rogers Place in Edmonton. The puck will drop for Game 2 at 2:30 p.m. ET. We analyze the Jets-Flames NHL betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Jets vs. Flames: Projected starting goalies

Connor Hellebuyck vs. Cam Talbot

In a postseason filled with surprising goaltending decisions thus far, the Jets and Flames should both be staying with what worked in Game 1.

Hellebuyck took the loss but stopped 29 of 32 shots on goal. He was among the most reliable goaltenders in the regular season with a .922 save percentage and 2.57 goals against average across 56 starts and two relief appearances.

Talbot stopped 17 of the meager 18 shots he faced in Game 1 and will give head coach Geoff Ward little reason to pivot to David Rittich. Talbot now has a .944 SV% and 2.39 GAA across 16 career playoff games.

Prediction

Jets 4, Flames 2

Moneyline (ML)

Expect a spirited effort from the Jets (+125) after losing C Mark Scheifele to a hit from Flames W Matthew Tkachuk in Game 1. The Flames (-150) were able to control play the rest of the way and finished the game with 50 of the 95 total shots attempted by both teams.

The two teams met just once in the regular season with the Jets earning a 2-1 overtime victory. Winnipeg still has plenty of talent on the wings and could even shift Blake Wheeler to center to help compensate for Scheifele’s expected absence for at least one game.

Back the JETS (+125) to pull even in the series.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Jets to win in regulation or overtime would return a profit of $12.50 with a victory.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Liking Winnipeg to win the game outright, I’m going to take the alternate puck line of JETS -1 (+240). If Winnipeg wins by two or more goals, a $10 bet on the spread would return a profit of $24. If they win by just a single goal, the investment would be refunded as a push.

The Jets gave up two power-play goals and a shorthanded marker in Game 1. Expect a more disciplined performance and better play on special teams with the pressure already on in this abbreviated five-game series.

Over/Under (O/U)

Lean slightly to the OVER 5.5 (+105) for a slightly-better than even-money return on your investment. Talbot wasn’t pressured much and saw just 18 shots in his first meaningful game in over four months.

The Jets will make life more difficult for him in Game 2 and more shots will lead to more goals with the rust not being fully shaken off in Saturday’s series opener.

Winnipeg Jets vs. Calgary Flames odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Saturday’s Winnipeg Jets vs. Calgary Flames sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Calgary Flames and Winnipeg Jets lock horns Saturday in Game 1 of their best-of-five NHL qualification round series at 10:30 p.m. ET at Rogers Place in Edmonton, AB, one of two hub locations for the NHL restart. We analyze the Jets-Flames sports betting odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.

Jets vs. Flames: Projected starting goalies

Connor Hellebuyck vs. David Rittich

Hellebuyck might be one of the more unheralded backstops in the NHL. The Michigander posted a 31-21-5 record with a 2.57 goals against average and .922 save percentage over 56 starts and two relief appearances. In his only showing against the Flames this season, Hellebuyck picked up a 2-1 overtime win, turning aside 29 of the 30 shots he faced.

The Czech-born Rittich posted a 24-17-6 record, 2.97 GAA and .907 SV% across his 48 starts this season while turning in two shutouts. He was on the short end of that 2-1 OT game in Winnipeg back on Oct. 26, but he looked sharp with 43 saves on 45 shots.

Prediction

Flames 3, Jets 2

Moneyline (ML)

The FLAMES (-134) are expected to win here, as the favorite has connected in 10 of the previous 14 meetings in this head-to-head series. It will likely feel weird to the Flames, if they can win, as the game takes place on the ice of their heated provincial rivals, the Edmonton Oilers. One interesting thing to note here, the Jets (+110) have won the past two meetings. Neither side has won three in a row in this series since Calgary rattled off three straight wins from Dec. 23, 2015 to Nov. 12, 2016.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Flames (-134) to win returns a profit of $7.50, while a $10 wager on the Jets (+110) would result in a profit of $11.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The Flames -1 (+120) look awfully good at this price. Keep in mind, however, that four of the past six in this series have been one-goal games, so looking for a winner by two or more goals is a tall order.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 6 (-110) is worth a look. This won’t be a defensive battle like the Heritage Classic, when these teams combined for just three goals, but it will be a lower-scoring affair with two good goalies between the pipes. Plus, the Under has cashed in five of the past six in this series, and seven of the previous nine.
