Coming into Sunday’s matchup against New England, everything was set in stone except two games for Gang Green. The AFC East will play the AFC South and NFC South, while also accounting for its six divisional matchups.
The Jets, who finished fourth in the AFC East with a 2-14 record, are scheduled to face off against the same division place-holder in the AFC North and West. The 7-9 Chargers’ 38-21 victory over the Chiefs solidified a fourth-place finish for the Broncos (6-10) in the AFC West. The Jets will travel to Denver during the 2021 season.
The Jets will also host the Bengals (4-11-1), who easily clinched a fourth-place finish in the AFC North while the division’s three other teams clinched playoff spots.
The Jets’ only unknown at the moment is who their opponent would be for a possible 17th game. As of now, the league plans to expand the regular season to 17 games for the 2021 season.
After one of the worst seasons in franchise history, the Jets don’t have an easy road ahead of them. Likely led by a new head coach for the 2021 season, the Jets will be facing five playoff teams, with the potential for one more.
