Falcons PFF grades: Top 20 players from Week 12

Falcons top 20 PFF grades: Matthew Bergeron leads offense, Jessie Bates leads defense in Week 12

Pro Football Focus is good for evaluating things that fans might not see, but it didn’t take an expert to see that Falcons safety Jessie Bates III played extremely well in Sunday’s 24-15 win over the Saints.

Bates recorded his fourth interception of the season and returned it for a touchdown, then forced a fumble later in the game. Bates was the team’s highest-graded defensive player in Week 12, while rookie Matthew Bergeron led the offense.

Here are PFF‘s 20 highest-graded Falcons players from Week 12.

Jessie Bates returned an interception 92 yards for a touchdown

The Atlanta Falcons secondary found early redemption after giving up long passes to Chris Olave and Taysom Hill.

The New Orleans Saints’ Derek Carr went to the air one time too many and his pass wound up in the hands of Jessie Bates.

Ninety-two yards later, the Falcons had a 7-3 lead after the pick-six and PAT.

Carr was 8-for-12 for 129 passing yards but the interception wiped out all the positives.

Bengals looking forward to reunion, jersey swap with Jessie Bates

Bengals players reunite with Jessie Bates in Week 2 of the preseason.

Cincinnati Bengals players will see an old friend on Friday night when they play the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2 of the preseason.

There, they’ll see safety Jessie Bates, a long-time staple of the Lou Anarumo defense in Cincinnati who signed with the Falcons in free agency this offseason.

Dax Hill, the first-rounder tabbed as Bates’ replacement, says he’s looking forward to seeing the guy who helped him along.

“We talked once right after he signed, so it will be good to see him in person,” Hill said, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “He told me to just be prepared and just show the world what I can do. He can do so many things well, I think he’s had an influence on my style of play.” …

Hobson also noted that somebody like Sam Hubbard wants to do a jersey swap with Bates, but it sure sounds like he might have some competition for that one.

Besides this, the Bengals will buck history a little bit recently and let some defensive starters get some run during the exhibition.
