Ravens request to interview Brian Angelichio for offensive coordinator

Angelichio is the third Vikings’ staffer to be requested for an interview this week

The Minnesota Vikings had an excellent offensive season and with a good season comes other teams wanting to bring in your coaches. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Baltimore Ravens have requested permission to interview Vikings passing game coordinator Brian Angelichio for their offensive coordinator position.

Angelichio is the third Vikings assistant to be requested for an interview with Wes Phillips and Jerrod Johnson being asked by the Los Angeles Chargers earlier this week.

After being the Ravens’ offensive coordinator for five seasons, Greg Roman was relieved of his duties after the season. While they search for their next candidate, there doesn’t seem to be a direction for where they want to go with their offense.

Angelichio has been in coaching since 1996 and worked his way up from small schools in New York to the NFL where he got a chance with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2012. He has been a tight ends coach in all 11 seasons in the NFL with this past season being his first as the passing game coordinator.

In his career, Angelichio worked under both Mike Pettine with the Cleveland Browns in 2014 and 2015 along with Kevin O’Connell in 2019 with the Washington Commanders.

Report: Chargers request interview with Vikings’ Jerrod Johnson for offensive coordinator position

This marks the second requested interview for the Chargers’ offensive coordinator vacancy.

As the Chargers look to fill their offensive coordinator vacancy, they have requested permission to interview Vikings assistant quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson, according to CBS Sport’s Jonathan Jones.

Johnson’s career as a coach began in 2017 when he was a part of the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship with the 49ers. In 2019, he resumed the same role with the Colts. In 2020 and 2021, Johnson was an offensive quality control coach with Indianapolis.

This season, Johnson joined the Vikings as the assistant quarterbacks coach, where he helped Kirk Cousins amass the most passing yards of his career (4,547) en route to a 13-4 Minnesota record.

Los Angeles has also requested an interview with Rams passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach Zac Robinson.

Chargers request to interview Vikings assistant QB coach Jerrod Johnson

The Chargers have requested the second member of Kevin O’Connell’s staff to interview for their offensive coordinator position

For the second time this week, the Los Angeles Chargers have requested to interview a Minnesota Vikings coach for their vacant offensive coordinator position. According to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, Vikings assistant quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson has been requested to interview by the Chargers.

The Chargers had requested to interview Wes Phillips the Vikings offensive e coordinator earlier this week, but he declined as he preferred to stay in Minnesota on head coach Kevin O’Connell’s staff.

Johnson was a quarterback at Texas A&M, where he held numerous records before Kellen Mond, came in and broke them. He had a long professional career across multiple leagues including the NFL and CFL before he got into coaching. He was most notably an offensive quality control coach with the Indianapolis Colts under Frank Reich in 2020 and 2021.

The Chargers continuing to request interviews with Vikings staffers signals that Brandon Staley wants to transition to a Sean McVay-style offense, which would be an excellent fit for quarterback Justin Herbert.

Vikings to hire Colts’ Jerrod Johnson to coaching staff

Colts assistant coach Jerrod Johnson is joining the Vikings coaching staff.

Indianapolis Colts offensive quality control coach Jerrod Johnson will be joining the Minnesota Vikings coaching staff.

Johnson, who has held that role with the Colts since 2020, will be an offensive assistant under new head coach Kevin O’Connell, who takes over after working under Sean McVay as the offensive coordinator for the last two seasons.

Before holding the role as the quality control coach, Johnson was a participant in the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship, which “is to use NFL clubs’ training camps, offseason workout programs and minicamps to give talented coaches opportunities to observe, participate, gain experience and ultimately gain a full-time NFL coaching position.”

The Colts have several positions on their coaching staff that will need to be replaced this offseason, especially on the defensive side of the ball.

But they’ve also seen other offensive assistants like wide receivers coach Mike Groh and former senior assistant Press Taylor take jobs elsewhere.

Vikings land Jerrod Johnson as an offensive assistant

The Vikings’ coaching staff is rounding into shape with the newest addition.

The Minnesota Vikings continue to add to their rebuilding coaching staff with the latest addition being former Indianapolis Colts offensive quality control coach Jerrod Johnson, per Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network.

Johnson spent the previous three seasons working with the Colts, but he has opted to leave for the opportunity in Minnesota, which has him working with the quarterback/passing game in some capacity.

So he’ll be tied at the hip with Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins in an effort to help the passing offense ascend to new heights in 2022.

Johnson started on his journey in coaching after wrapping up his playing career with the Dallas Cowboys in 2016. He cut his teeth in the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship and earned his first job as an assistant on the staff for the San Francisco 49ers.

That 49ers connection runs deep for soon-to-be hired Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell.

Johnson’s name can officially be added to the growing list of former San Francisco coaches and front office workers that are suddenly Minnesota-bound.
