Duke football coach [autotag]Manny Diaz[/autotag] confirmed on Monday that tight end Jeremiah Hasley would miss the rest of the 2024 season with a lower leg injury.

Hasley was carted off the field during Friday’s game against Northwestern after he fell backward on a block during punt protection.

The redshirt sophomore caught three passes for 11 yards between the first two games of the season, including a one-yard touchdown against Elon in Week 1. He finished the 2023 season with five receptions for 52 yards and another score.

The Blue Devils now turn to senior Nicky Dalmolin and fellow sophomore Jake Taylor at the tight end position. Diaz praised Taylor’s performance in Hasley’s place during the second half against the Wildcats, and Dalmolin has 57 receptions in 43 career games with the team.

Duke tight end Jeremiah Hasley carted off the field during Northwestern game

Duke tight end Jeremiah Hasley left Friday’s game against Northwestern on a cart after he fell to the turf during punt protection.

Duke football might be without tight end Jeremiah Hasley for the foreseeable future.

The junior left Friday’s game against Northwestern on a cart after he fell to the turf during punt protection in the second quarter.

The replay showed him tumble backward after he collided with a Wildcats rusher. He remained on the ground after the contact, but it was not immediately clear what happened to cause the injury. He seemed to be grabbing near his right knee.

Hasley was helped to his feet by two members of the Duke training staff, who helped him walk a few feet to the cart. All of his Blue Devils teammates came out to speak to him before he left the field.

We will continue to update as we know more about Hasley’s injury.

Maalik Murphy throws first touchdown pass in a Duke football uniform

Watch Maalik Murphy’s first touchdown throw with Duke football from Friday’s season-opener against Elon.

Duke quarterback [autotag]Maalik Murphy[/autotag] threw his first touchdown pass with the Blue Devils against Elon on Friday night.

The former Texas transfer completed five of his first six passes in the season opener, but it took him until the third quarter to throw one into the end zone.

He nearly got the first score in impressive fashion, finding star wideout [autotag]Jordan Moore[/autotag] for a 47-yard gain down the sideline on a play that was initially ruled a score.

However, replays confirmed that Moore’s knee came down a yard short of the goal line. Not that the ruling delayed Murphy long. On the very next play, offensive coordinator Jonathan Brewer dialed up a play-action bootleg for his new starting quarterback, and the Blue Devils captain rolled out to his right and found a wide-open Jeremiah Hasley for the score.

Murphy left that drive, with six minutes left in the third quarter, well over the 200-yard mark through the air. Duke tried to add on a 2-point conversion, but an incompletion kept the Blue Devils lead 19-0.
