Florida DL commit ‘solid’ with Gators despite outside recruiting pressure

Recruiting doesn’t end with a commitment these days. This Florida defensive line pledge is still hearing from plenty of Power Four programs.

Lee County (Leesburg, Georgia) defensive lineman [autotag]Jeramiah McCloud[/autotag] has been locked in with the Florida Gators since verbally committing to the program in May, but that hasn’t stopped other Power Four programs from pushing for a flip.

According to Swamp247, McCloud has heard from LSU, Georgia, Auburn, USC, and Florida State since committing to Florida. Visits to FSU and UGA could come around his trip to Gainesville this weekend.

“I’m still committed, but I’m still getting recruited. My recruitment is still open, but I am solid with my decision. I am hearing from a few schools, but feel solid with it. My commitment is something I’m happy with, and it’s been fun.”

It looks like in-state Georgia is the bigger threat to flip McCloud. He was in Athens during the spring and will return before signing with Florida.

“Georgia, that’s a big factor in my recruitment. Me being from Georgia, knowing a top school in the country is recruiting me, it means a lot,” McCloud said to Dawgs247. “I have a great relationship with Coach Tray (Scott), Coach Kirby (Smart), and my coaches talk to them every day.”

It’s not time for Florida to hit the panic button just yet, but the Gators need to combat Georgia’s pressure to keep McCloud in the recruiting class. He’s back in the Peach State for his senior year of high school, and his teammates are pushing the ‘Dawgs.

“So, I’m committed to Florida, but I want to make sure that’s the right fit for me, so I’m still keeping my options open,” he said. “The relationship I had with Florida was like, why not? I had recently decommitted from Mississippi State to Florida. The relationship I have with Coach Armstrong, Coach Chapman, Coach Napier, they’re great people outside of football.”

Recruiting Summary

McCloud is ranked No. 415 overall and No. 45 among defensive linemen in the class of 2025 according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking has him at Nos. 446 and 39, respectively.

Florida completes flip of former SEC-committed 2025 DL

Not too long ago, McCloud was committed to Mississippi State but he changed his mind and decided to stay home on Thursday.

The Florida football program scored a victory on the recruiting front when three-star defensive lineman [autotag]Jeramiah McCloud[/autotag] — a former commit to the Mississippi State Bulldogs — pledged to join the Orange and Blue on Thursday.

The 6-foot-3-inch, 280-pound trench warrior out of Havana (Florida) Gadsden County in the 2025 cycle backed off his previous commitment last month, having pledged to the Starkville staff back in January. The Gators pounced on the in-state product and were able to prevail over schools likes of the USC Trojans, with whom he had scheduled an official visit in early June.

The key to McCloud’s recruitment lay largely in the opinion of his mother, who had a superlative experience at the university on her recent trip.

“It’s hard to impress my mom. My mom liked Florida, and that was her first time being there. She said it felt like home, and that it was a great trip,” he noted.

“My mom is definitely sold on Florida. She definitely liked it a lot. The defensive coordinator, Austin Armstrong, Coach (Gerald) Chatman, and Coach Napier did a great job talking to her and building a relationship. They definitely won her over.”

Recruiting Summary

McCloud is ranked No. 501 overall and No. 50 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking has him at Nos. 428 and 37, respectively.

Gators earn crystal ball prediction to flip SEC-committed DL

Florida is quickly rising for in-state DL Jeramiah McCloud, per 247Sports.

Florida football continues its grind on the recruiting trail despite the end of the spring practice season in a never-ending effort to restore glory to the Orange and Blue. Billy Napier and Co. are leaving no stone unturned as the program builds its 2025 recruiting class.

One of the Gators’ targets is three-star defensive lineman [autotag]Jeramiah McCloud[/autotag] out of Havana (Florida) Gadsden County, who is currently committed to the Mississippi State Bulldogs as of January. The 6-foot-4-inch, 285-pound defender has been keeping his options open and appears to be trending toward the Swamp.

On Friday, Swamp247’s Blake Alderman submitted a crystal ball prediction in favor of Florida, crediting defensive line coach Gerald Chatman, co-defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong and head coach Billy Napier for the achievement.

McCloud has stopped by campus three times this spring, visiting in late March and then twice in April. His most recent visit on Wednesday allowed him to bring his mother along for a tour of the university.

Recruiting Summary

McCloud is ranked No. 508 overall and No. 51 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking has him at Nos. 461 and 39, respectively.

Gators to get Mississippi State DL commit back on campus

Florida will get Mississippi State defensive line commit Jeramiah McCloud back on campus as the Gators continue to push for a flip.

Gadsen County (Havana, Florida) defensive lineman and Mississippi State commit [autotag]Jeramiah McCloud[/autotag] was at the University of Florida on Thursday and has plans to return to Gainesville at least two more times before his senior season.

McCloud will be back on April 6 for another unofficial visit, but he says he’s locking in a date for an official visit during that trip, according to Swamp247.

The Bulldogs earned a commitment from McCloud back in January, but that’s not slowing down Florida defensive line coach Gerald Chatman. McCloud got some extended time around Chatman Thursday, and it’s clear that the relationship is growing stronger.

“Coach Chatman told me he was going to come after me, and he’s been doing that,” McCloud said. “He’s always telling me how I am going to be a Gator. Coach Napier said he liked a lot of the things I have added to my game. It’s good to know the head coach likes things about my game. He’s big on development and relationships.”

McCloud admitted that his commitment to Mississippi State is “shaky” right now, given the amount of attention he’s received. Official visits to Colorado, Georgia and LSU are all likely at this point.

Recruiting Summary

Rivals.com gives McCloud four-star status and ranks him as the 15th-best defensive lineman in the class of 2025, but both 247Sports and On3 have him down as a three-star talent.

The On3 industry ranking has him at No. 495 overall and No. 41 among defensive linemen, while the 247Sports composite puts him at Nos. 528 and 53, respectively.

LSU offers 2025 EDGE from Havana, Florida

Jeramiah McCloud is currently committed to Mississippi State.

[autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] and his recruiting staff took a trip to Havana, Florida, to extend a scholarship offer to one of the most talented edge rushers in the 2025 recruiting class.

[autotag]Jeramiah McCloud[/autotag] is a 6-foot-4, 285-pound edge rusher from Havana, Florida, where he plays for Gadsden County High School. The Gadsden County Jaguars finished the 2023 season 6-5 with a loss to Wakulla in the 2 S state playoffs.

There are currently no Crystal Ball projections for McCloud but he is currently committed to playing for Mississippi State.

Film Analysis: McCloud is a powerful force that wreaks havoc in opposing backfields. Hopefully, Kelly can pull McCloud away from Mississippi State.
