James Holzhauer zings Joe Buck over ‘Jeopardy!’ hosting with trolling tweet

Lots of other reaction to the guest host ahead.

Joe Buck is the latest Jeopardy! guest host, and that means fans on Twitter are going to have a lot of opinions about his performance, which isn’t really anything new given how people dissect his play-by-play calls every time he’s on the mic (a reminder: our Andy Nesbitt once wrote Bucks was the GOAT).

One of those opinions came from James Holzhauer, the Las Vegas sports bettor and one of the greatest Jeopardy! champions the game show has ever seen.

His tweet? It’s a zing of Buck, and maybe Holzhauer is saying it tongue-in-cheek? Here’s what he had to say, and we’ll throw in some moments from Buck’s night and other reaction:

‘Jeopardy!’ executive producer is reportedly the permanent host frontrunner, and fans are fuming

“Who is Mike Richards?” Not LeVar Burton.

The search to replace the incomparable Alex Trebek as the host of Jeopardy! appears to nearing it’s end, and the show’s executive producer, Mike Richards, “is in advanced negotiations” to take over the role, Variety reported Wednesday.

Since Trebek’s death in November 2020, the show has had several guest hosts — such as Aaron Rodgers, Ken Jennings, LeVar Burton, Katie Couric, Robin Roberts, Anderson Cooper and Mayim Bialik — fill during the search for a permanent replacement. According to the report, Bialik and former Jeopardy! contestant Buzzy Cohen have also strongly been considered.

“Richards, who joined the show just last year as executive producer, impressed Sony Pictures brass with his command of the fast-paced game and easy on-air manner,” Variety reported.

However, many fans were not happy to hear this news, seemingly in part because their preferred candidate isn’t the frontrunner and in part because they have no idea who Richards is. He guest hosted Jeopardy! in February and March.

And while many hoped Rodgers would leave the Green Bay Packers to take the host job, that’s not realistic. But Burton was a popular fan favorite as a guest host last month and to become the permanent host, and the Star Trek: The Next Generation actor wants the job, telling Newsweek in April:

“I think I could continue his legacy, I think I would do it proud. Yeah, I think I would bring myself and my skills and my life experience. I believe that I will be honoring Alex’s legacy by standing on the podium.”

Another good option would have been Jennings, the Jeopardy! superstar who won the GOAT tournament against James Holzhauer and Brad Rutter back in early 2020.

So the news that Richards might be the new Jeopardy! host isn’t sitting well with a lot of fans, and they voiced their frustrations on Twitter. And, of course, had a lot of jokes.

What is Matt Amodio? A ‘Jeopardy!’ contestant is on a 10-day winning streak while driving fans nuts

Meet the Ph.D student who’s winning and annoying fans at the same time.

You may think that I’ve made a huge mistake in the headline: it should be “WHO is Matt Amodio?”

But here’s the thing! I’m only following what Amodio — a Jeopardy! contestant currently in the middle of a 10-game winning streak, now eighth on the all-time regular-season money list with $310,400 won — has done while claiming victories.

He answers every clue with “What is …” or “What’s …” That wouldn’t be so jarring, but if it’s “What is Napoleon?” that apparently makes fans of the show not very happy.

But isn’t that against the rules? Let’s dive into all things Amodio, including this particular quirk that has everyone buzzing.

Aaron Rodgers will be back as ‘Jeopardy!’ host … on ‘The Conners’

More Jeopardy host duties!

The Aaron Rodgers drama with the Green Bay Packers rages on as we wonder if the franchise will trade him or try to keep the legendary quarterback and convince him to stick around.

But there’s another HUGE question surrounding Rodgers: after an incredibly good run as a guest host of Jeopardy!, could he be chosen down the road as the full-time host?

We probably won’t know that for some time as we wait for the many other guest hosts to have their turn. But we do know he’ll be the host of the quiz show on an upcoming episode of ABC’s The Conners, as you’ll see in this clip:

I’d say this is a chance for us to learn what Rodgers is like as an actor, but we’ve seen that in Game of Thrones and on The Office. We know he’s good:

A ‘Jeopardy!’ contestant hilariously whiffed on a surprisingly tough clue

Lots of jokes about 800-degree calzones ahead.

OK, look: to anyone who is making fun of poor Steve from Thursday night’s Jeopardy!, I ask you if you would have gotten this clue that he hilariously struck out on.

Take a minute to think about it! You’re on a nationally televised game show with a few seconds to answer after hitting your buzzer at the exact right time, and the answer to this $1,000 clue isn’t there. So you grasp and say what’s the first thing that comes to mind.

Not so easy, is it?

Now, that said, in hindsight, I imagine Steve is having a bit of a laugh over this answer to the clue in the “Hot Stuff” category:

Yeah, biting into an 800-degree calzone might be, er, a little painful. But would any of you gotten “what is an oven?”

There were lots of jokes, but there shouldn’t be:

NFL fans made so many ‘Jeopardy!’ jokes after report of Aaron Rodgers’ unhappiness with the Packers

SO MANY JEOPARDY! JOKES.

Aaron Rodgers is reportedly not happy with the Green Bay Packers, and it’s gotten to the point where the MVP quarterback “is so disgruntled with the Green Bay Packers that he has told some within the organization that he does not want to return to the team,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Thursday afternoon.

Add this to the list of unexpected news on NFL Draft day.

Schefter’s reporting left NFC North fan bases celebrating while also quickly galvanizing some NFL fans to start lobbying for Rodgers to join their preferred franchises. And then, of course, a bunch of people made Jeopardy! jokes and puns.

Rodgers recently finished his stint as a guest host of the game show — he’s among the many celebrities to temporarily fill in for the late Alex Trebek —  and he generally received pretty positive reviews. He had some funny moments, teased contestants and he and the Packers even got roasted over the team’s most recent playoff loss during Final Jeopardy.

In fact, Rodgers did such a great job on Jeopardy! that a producer of the show said recently that “his second career could be better than his first.” And when USA TODAY asked the star quarterback if he’d ever consider becoming the permanent Jeopardy! host one day, Rodgers said: “Hell yeah, I would.”

We here at For The Win even wrote that Rodgers should get the permanent Jeopardy! gig when his time in the NFL eventually ends. Why not? He was a great contestant, an entertaining host and loves the game show.

But whether taking over full-time on Jeopardy! is a realistic option for Rodgers or not, it certainly didn’t stop fans from making Jeopardy! jokes in response to the report about being disgruntled in Green Bay.

And so many people reacted with the exact same, super obvious, totally predictable yet still funny pun.

New episodes of The Sneak: The Disappearance of Mario Rossi are out now

LeVar Burton will finally get a chance to guest host Jeopardy! like fans wanted

It’s about time.

Fans have been clamoring for LeVar Burton to get a chance to guest host Jeopardy for weeks now.

Burton has also been pretty vocal about wanting to do it. The Star Trek star posted an online petition to make him the next host of Jeopardy! earlier this month and it’s racked up more than 246,000 so far.

Clearly, he has lots of fan support. And clearly, the powers that be of Jeopardy! saw that support. And they have responded to it.

Burton will finally get a chance to host Jeopardy! later this summer. The show announced the final group of guest hosts who will close out Season 37 and Burton just made the cut.

Burton was thrilled about the news.

So were fans.

Needless to say, we’re all looking forward to this summer. Burton is going to be awesome.

Aaron Rodgers’ best moments as guest host of ‘Jeopardy!’

Now that Aaron Rodgers’ stint as ‘Jeopardy!’ guest host is in the books, let’s take a look back at the most memorable moments.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been trying out a new career over the last couple of weeks serving as Jeopardy!‘s guest host. Following the tragic passing of Alex Trebek last November, Jeopardy! has been hosting several guest-host stints as a way to find Trebek’s permanent replacement.

Rodgers’ stint as Jeopardy!‘s guest host has been met mostly with praise, which has many already calling for him to land the permanent gig. Whether that happens remains to be seen, as there are still several guest hosts waiting in the wings, including FOX Sports announcer Joe Buck.

Now that Rodgers’ stint as guest host is in the books, let’s take a look back at the most memorable moments from his two weeks hosting Jeopardy!

Joe Buck to join list of Jeopardy guest hosts

Joe Buck will be one of the guest hosts of Jeopardy, with his shows appearing in the summer.

Aaron Rodgers has company with sports figures taking a spin as guest host of the popular TV show “Jeopardy.”

FOX Sports’ incomparable play-by-play voice Joe Buck will join the list of those taking the role for a time.

The host slot opened when legendary Alex Trebek passed away in November.

Per the New York Post:

Joe Buck will be a guest host on “Jeopardy!” putting him in contention for the coveted permanent job, The Post has learned.

Buck’s episodes are expected to air at some point in the mid-summer, according to sources.

Over the past two weeks, Rodgers hosted the program. Before Rodgers, the host list included Katie Couric, Dr. Mehmet Oz, Ken Jennings and the longtime executive producer of the program, Mike Richards.

Anderson Cooper, Bill Whitaker, Mayim Bialik, Savannah Guthrie and Dr. Sanjay Gupta are all on the schedule, as well.

From 2015-18 Buck hosted Undeniable with Joe Buck, a sports interview series on Audience Network.

Rodgers’ turn was completed with Friday’s show. He enjoyed his run, for sure.

“The best part of guest-hosting ‘Jeopardy!’ is watching the incredibly smart contestants test themselves against the game and against each other,” Rodgers said during one of the episodes. “It takes quick reflexes and the ability to make intelligent decisions on the fly to be a ‘Jeopardy!’ champion…something I can definitely relate to.”

Joe Buck is reportedly auditioning to permanently host ‘Jeopardy!’ and fans aren’t happy

Some people think the world needs less Joe Buck, not more.

Get ready for more sports on “Jeopardy!” as FOX Sports announcer Joe Buck will reportedly get his chance to serve as guest host on the popular show this summer.

Following the tragic death of host Alex Trebek last November, “Jeopardy!” has been trying out guest hosts while it mulls over its decision to find his permanent replacement.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has captured the hearts of “Jeopardy!” fans everywhere during his guest-hosting stint on the popular ABC series over the last two weeks. So much so that many wanted Rodgers to take on the gig full-time, including Rodgers himself.

While there was a warm reception for Rodgers’ guest-host stint, which concluded Friday, the same can’t be said for Buck, who has also received his fair share of criticism as a FOX Sports announcer.

The reaction to his guest-host gig, as you might imagine, isn’t pretty with many fans threatening to boycott the show if Buck gets the permanent job. Others took it as an opportunity for a dig.

Whether it’s Rodgers or Buck that ultimately gets the permanent hosting gig remains to be seen as ABC continues to cycle through guest hosts, with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, CBS News’ Bill Whitaker, actress Mayim Bialik, NBC’s Savannah Guthrie and Dr. Sanjay Gupta on deck.
