James Holzhauer vs. Emma Boettcher: The schedule for their ‘Jeopardy!’ rematch

Here. We. Go.

It’s happening.

The Jeopardy! rematch we’ve all been waiting for is finally happening: Las Vegas sports gambler James Holzhauer will once again get to face Emma Boettcher, the Chicago librarian who took down Holzhauer in the middle of a 32-game winning streak in which he changed the way the game show was played.

Boettcher won her semi-final game in the show’s Tournament of Champions on Monday and Holzhauer did the same on Tuesday. After Wednesday’s episode, we’ll know the third opponent who will take on the two of them.

As for the schedule the rest of the way in the ToC? It’s going to be a two-day final on Thursday Nov. 14 and Friday Nov. 15. The winner — who will be determined by the two-day totals in those games — will receive $250,000, while second-place gets $100,000 and third gets $50,000.

So away we go. We’ll see if Holzhauer can avenge his loss, or if Boettcher has his number again.

‘Jeopardy!’ coincidentally had a sign-stealing question on the same day as Astros accusations

What a coincidence!

The Houston Astros have come under fire for accusations of sign stealing using electronic equipment in 2017 season, a year in which they won the World Series.

Specifically, per The Athletic, former pitcher Mike Fiers and others said the franchise used a camera in the outfield to see opposing catcher signals and relayed them with loud noises to the hitter.

That report broke on Tuesday, and funny enough, there was a question about sign-stealing asked on that day’s episode of Jeopardy! in which Las Vegas sports gambler James Holzhauer played.

It’s a total coincidence, of course, since episodes are filmed months prior:

Here’s how James Holzhauer fared in his ‘Jeopardy!’ Tournament of Champions semi-final

Is he heading to the final in the Tournament of Champions?

WARNING: JEOPARDY! SPOILERS AHEAD! DO NOT SCROLL DOWN UNLESS YOU’VE WATCHED THE NOV. 12 EPISODE OR WANT IT SPOILED!

Are we all ready?

Okay.

On Tuesday, James Holzhauer completed his second Jeopardy! game back since his 32-game winning streak ended in June, a semi-final contest in the show’s 2019 Tournament of Champions. A win would clinch a spot in the final to have a rematch with Emma Boettcher, the Chicago librarian who ended that win streak.

So how did he do? As we did last week, we’ll bring back our Holzhauer tracker and tell you what happened (and again: SPOILER ALERT! Everything is below this awesome photo of Holzhauer and Alex Trebek):

Did he win?

He did! He defeated Steven Grade and Rachel Lindgren to move on to the finals.

Win streak

He’s won two in a row in the tourney, so he’s won 34 of his last 35 Jeopardy! starts.

Cash totals

He won $30,156, but a reminder: he doesn’t keep that money as he goes for the $250,000 that goes to the ToC winner.

Final Jeopardy!

Holzhauer went into Final Jeopardy with $30,466, while Grade had $11,400 and Lindgren had $7,200. The category was U.S. Demographics and here was the clue:

In 2018 Forbes said this “belt’s demographic delight is” this other “belt’s demographic dilemma”

The correct answer?

What are sun and rust?

James Holzhauer shuts down Emma Boettcher’s critics after her ‘Jeopardy!’ win

All class.

Ever since James Holzhauer lost to Chicago librarian Emma Boettcher to end his 32-game Jeopardy! winning streak, he’s been nothing but classy with his responses to critics on Twitter.

Right off the bat when he lost in June, he congratulated Boettcher by saying “There’s no greater honor than knowing an opponent had to play a perfect game to defeat me” and that he got his “(butt) kicked straight up by an elite player who nailed her own big bets.”

And after Boettcher won her semi-final Tournament of Champions on Monday, setting up what could be a rematch if Holzhauer wins Tuesday night, he had this to say to any critics:

All class. We’ll see if the pair face off with a third champion soon.

Alex Trebek choked up over ‘Jeopardy!’ contestant’s sweet Final Jeopardy answer

“We love you Alex.”

Alex Trebek got emotional during Monday night’s episode of Jeopardy! thanks to a contestant’s very sweet answer during Final Jeopardy.

Dhruv Gaur, who is a student at Brown University competing in the Tournament of Champions, didn’t know the answer for the Final Jeopardy question so he wrote “We love (with a heart) you Alex.”

Trebek is battling cancer and was noticeably moved by Gaur’s gesture as it caught him by surprise. It cost Gaur $1,995 but it will go down as one of the greatest moments in the legendary game show’s history.

This is a moment Trabek and Jeopardy fans will never forget:

According to Reddit this episode was filmed a day before Trabek was going to be undergoing another round of chemotherapy.

Fans got emotional over the sweet moment:

James Holzhauer’s ‘Jeopardy!’ rematch against Emma Boettcher will have to wait

We’re a step closer, though.

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!

The Jeopardy! rematch everyone has been waiting isn’t happening quite yet.

Every since University of Chicago librarian Emma Boettcher ended James Holzhauer’s 32-game winning streak (and the sports gambler from Las Vegas classily congratulated her), fans of the game show have been waiting for the Tournament of Champions to see if they could get through the field and face each other at some point on their way to finals.

Unfortunately, we’re going to have to wait one more round to see if it’s going to happen.

Per the Jeopardy! official site, Boettcher will play against Dhruv Gaur and Kyle Jones on Monday, Nov. 11 (UPDATE: She won!). Holzhauer gets sports industry consultant Steven Grade and Rachel Lindgren on Tuesday. There’s one more semifinal on Wednesday to decide the third player in the final, so if Boettcher and Holzhauer win their games, it won’t be a complete one-on-one head-to-head battle.

So let’s see what happens this week. If so, get your popcorn (and buzzers) ready.
