Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers wanted to be the permanent host of “Jeopardy!” but the iconic game show is going in a different direction.

Mike Richards and Mayim Bialik were officially announced by Sony Pictures Television as the new hosts on Wednesday.

Richards, previously the show’s executive producer, will be the daily host, while Bialik will host primetime events and spin-offs.

Rodgers, the NFL’s MVP and a long-time fan of the game show, enjoyed a two-week stint as a guest host earlier this year. And he wasn’t satisfied with just being a guest host – he wanted a shot at the official gig while still playing football.

Here’s what Rodgers said to Claire McNear of The Ringer in April: “I don’t think I’d need to give up football to do it. They film 46 days a year. I worked 187 this year in Green Bay. That gives me, eh—[pauses]—178 days to do Jeopardy! So I feel like I could fit 46 into that 178 and make it work. It would be a dream job for sure, and I’m not shy at all about saying I want the job. That’s how I went into it. I want an opportunity to be in the mix.”

It’s unclear how long Richards wants to be the host. Rodgers is 37 years old but wants to play football until he’s at least 40, but he also openly contemplated retirement this offseason. Maybe the Packers quarterback will get his shot at being the full-time host at some point down the road.

Aaron Rodgers’ run as ‘Jeopardy!’ guest host provides over $200K for charity

The North Valley Community Foundation will receive $236,725 in donations from Aaron Rodgers’ 10-episode run as “Jeopardy!” guest host.

Ten episodes of guest-hosting “Jeopardy!” helped Aaron Rodgers provide over $200,000 of charitable contributions to the North Valley Community Foundation.

The gameshow has committed to matching the winnings from contestants for each guest host. Total winnings from Rodgers’ run as the guest host equaled $236,725.

Rodgers’ charity of choice was the North Valley Community Foundation.

From the show: “To honor the participation of each of these talented individuals, Jeopardy! is matching the cumulative winnings of all contestants who compete and donating it to the charity of the guest host’s choice. And thanks to some great game play, these numbers are adding up fast!”

The North Valley Community Foundation has teamed with the Green Bay Packers quarterback to help small businesses in Northern California during the pandemic. Together, they created the “Aaron Rodgers Small Business COVID-19 Fund,” which is aimed to “help small, locally owned businesses in Butte County weather the coronavirus pandemic.”

The donations from “Jeopardy!” will fund a second round of grants.

During the first round of help earlier this year, over $1 million was distributed to 80 small businesses in and around Chico.

Since starting the guest host tour, “Jeopardy!” has created charitable contributions of $735,930.

Watch: Aaron Rodgers can’t believe ‘Jeopardy!’ contestants missed this Packers clue

Watch Aaron Rodgers’ playful reaction to “Jeopardy!” contestants missing a clue about the Green Bay Packers on Tuesday’s episode.

The funny moment between contestants and guest host Aaron Rodgers that was first teased by executive producer Mike Richards arrived during Tuesday’s “Jeopardy!” episode.

Rodgers, the Green Bay Packers quarterback, couldn’t believe the three contestants missed this clue:

TITLE, for $400: “IN THE 1960S THESE MIDWESTERNERS EARNED 5 NFL CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHIES”

A few seconds. Ding, ding, ding. No ring-ins. No responses.

Rodgers, looking and sounding bewildered, raised both of his arms and gave the answer: “The Green Bay Packers?”

How dare these three contestants not know the great Vince Lombardi dynasty in Green Bay during the 1960s.

A question later, a contestant answered correctly – to question about the Boston Celtics – from the same category.

“Oh, you know that one, huh?” Rodgers quipped.

The NFL MVP is on his second week guest hosting the legendary game show. Rodgers, 37, wants to be the full-time host while continuing to play football. Fun moments like the one on Tuesday should only help his cause.

Another viral Packers moment is coming to ‘Jeopardy!’ this week

Executive producer Mike Richards teased another potential viral moment featuring the Packers during Aaron Rodgers’ second week of hosting “Jeopardy!”

The second week of MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers hosting “Jeopardy!” will include another potentially viral moment featuring the Green Bay Packers.

Last week, a contestant used Final Jeopardy to take a jab at the Packers’ decision to kick a field goal late in the fourth quarter of the NFC Championship Game.

Expect another playful joke at the Packers’ expense at some point over the next five episodes.

“Fun moment in the second week. I can’t give it away, but it’s Packer-related. And Aaron’s exasperated,” executive producer Mike Richards told Peter King of NBC Sports.

Describing Rodgers as “exasperated” – or intensely irritated or frustrated, according to Oxford Languages – means the zinger was probably a well-placed and well-devised one.

Rodgers handled the first playful jab well, smiling for several seconds before responding with a joke of his own.

Richards provided no other details on the jab coming this week. It’s possible it could have something to do with Jordan Love or the Packers’ ongoing failures in the NFC title game.

Rodgers filmed 10 episodes as the guest host in February. The first five episodes aired last week and were well-received.

The Packers quarterback has said he wants to be the full-time host and successor to Alex Trebek, who passed away last November. And he wants to do it while continuing to play in the NFL.

Richards didn’t reveal anything about the future of the hosting gig, but he did endorse the work Rodgers completed as the guest host: “…his second career could be better than his first.”

High praise. The intrigue builds. Tune in this week to see the final half of Rodgers’ episodes and what should be a funny – or infuriating – moment for Packers fans.

Watch: Contestant takes playful jab at Packers during ‘Jeopardy!’

Aaron Rodgers’ first episode as the guest host of “Jeopardy!” included a playful jab at the Green Bay Packers by a contestant during the Final Jeopardy round.

Aaron Rodgers’ first episode as the guest host of “Jeopardy!” included a playful jab at the Green Bay Packers by a contestant during the Final Jeopardy round.

Scott, the two-day champion, didn’t have an answer for the final clue, so he wrote down something he knew would get a reaction from Rodgers, the MVP quarterback who is hosting 10 episodes over the next two weeks.

“Who wanted to kick that field goal?”

The answer is, of course, in reference to Matt LaFleur’s decision to kick a field goal down eight points late in the fourth quarter against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Championship Game in January. Instead of going for the touchdown with Rodgers on fourth down, the Packers took the three points but eventually lost by five.

Rodgers smiled and paused for a second or two before responding: “That is a great question. Should be correct, but unfortunately for this game today, that’s incorrect.”

Rodgers told Rob Demovsky of ESPN that he could read what the contestants were writing during Final Jeopardy in real-time, adding even more hilarity to the moment.

Kudos to Scott for pouring salt into the wound.

After the loss in January, Rodgers said he wasn’t involved in the decision to kick the field goal. It can be safely assumed he didn’t agree with the call. To be fair to LaFleur, he didn’t have a great choice either way. He either needed a touchdown on fourth down, the two-point conversion and a stop from his defense to force overtime, or the field goal, a stop from his defense and another scoring drive from the offense. LaFleur took the second option, and the Packers ended up losing.

Rodgers’ stint as the “Jeopardy!” guest host is off to a knee-slapping start.

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers wants full-time ‘Jeopardy!’ hosting role

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers thinks he can play in the NFL and host “Jeopardy!” And he legitimately wants the job.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers might not be satisfied with just a two-week guest-hosting experience on “Jeopardy!” In fact, the three-time MVP is legitimately interested in becoming the full-time host and successor to Alex Trebek, who hosted the show for 37 seasons.

Rodgers told “The Pat McAfee Show” on Monday that he would “love to be the host” of the iconic game show. And he wasn’t just kidding around.

Rodgers is working under the assumption that he could continue to be an NFL quarterback while hosting the show.

Here’s what Rodgers said to Claire McNear of The Ringer: “I don’t think I’d need to give up football to do it.

Rodgers, who turns 38 in December, is one of several guest hosts picked by the show to keep the games going after Trebek’s passing last November. His 10-episode run started Monday and lasts two weeks.

Rodgers told Rob Demovsky of ESPN that studied for “hours and hours” and took “pages and pages” of notes in preparation for the hosting gig. He both wanted to honor Trebek’s legacy and impress the decision-makers at “Jeopardy!” during the filming, which was completed in February.

A long-time fan of the show, winner of “Celebrity Jeopardy!” in 2015 and lover of trivia, Rodgers has called being the host a “dream job.”

The California native has been the Packers quarterback since 2005, and he’s under contract in Green Bay for three more seasons.

Here’s why Rodgers thinks he’d be a good pick to replace Trebek as the full-time host, per McNeal: “I respect the show and appreciate the history of it, and also there’s my background of stepping in for a legend and their footsteps. I feel like all that combined makes me a pretty good candidate.”

Super Bowl-winning quarterback and game-show host? Rodgers might make it possible soon.

Aaron Rodgers teases potential viral moment during his ‘Jeopardy!’ episodes

One “Jeopardy!” contestant took a shot at the Packers during Final Jeopardy of one of Aaron Rodgers’ upcoming episodes.

An answer during Final Jeopardy from Aaron Rodgers’ stint as the guest host of the game show may provide a viral moment for fans of the NFL and Green Bay Packers.

Rodgers, who hosted 10 episodes, teased the upcoming “Jeopardy!” moment during an interview with Rob Demovsky of ESPN.

According to Rodgers, one contestant didn’t have an answer for the final clue, so he used the opportunity to take a jab at Rodgers and the Packers.

“For about 25 seconds, I’m watching him write this, and he thinks about the answer and says ‘F— it,’ basically, ‘I’m going to write this answer,’ which, probably one of the viral moments of my two weeks will be his response, which is taking a shot at something that happened to us late in the season,” Rodgers said.

During Final Jeopardy, contestants wager money before the clue. They are then read the clue by the host and given 30 seconds to write out their answers.

Rodgers, who could see the answers in real-time, said it was “pretty amazing” to watch the contestant write out the answer.

It’s possible the shot could have something to do with the long touchdown the Packers gave up late to Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first half of the NFC title game. The play was an embarrassing moment for the Packers and a pivotal play in the loss. Matt LaFleur deciding to kick a field goal late in the fourth quarter is another candidate.

The Packers won 13 games and Rodgers was the NFL’s MVP, but the team lost by five points in the NFC title game to the eventual Super Bowl champions.

Rodgers’ episodes begin airing on Monday, April 5 and last two weeks.

“Jeopardy!” episodes guest hosted by Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers will begin airing nationally on Monday, April 5. The three-time NFL MVP provided a behind-the-scenes look at the experience during a 10-minute interview with the show.

Rodgers talked about his love of the show, how he honored Alex Trebek’s memory as a host, his favorite memories of Trebek, how he calmed his nerves before the filming, the parallels between hosting and playing football, handling contestant interviews and the best potential players among his NFL peers and why he picked the North Valley Community Foundation.

Rodgers also challenged offensive linemen David Bakhtiari, Corey Linsley and Lucas Patrick to a friendly game of “Jeopardy!”

“I would love to see my offensive linemen, who I love so much, but who are also very opinionated guys who think they are absolutely brilliant humans…I’d like to see those three guys, right up here on the stage…just see how well they do,” Rodgers said.

Aaron Rodgers watched ‘hours and hours’ of ‘Jeopardy!’ tape to prep for hosting gig

The Green Bay Packers quarterback studied former host Alex Trebek in great detail to prepare for his hosting gig on “Jeopardy!”

Aaron Rodgers didn’t take for granted his opportunity to host the legendary game show “Jeopardy!”

Instead of breaking down film of defenses, the Green Bay Packers quarterback went back to the tape to watch former host Alex Trebek, who passed away last year.

Rodgers told Rob Demovsky of ESPN that he studied for “hours and hours” and took “pages and pages” of notes to prepare for his two-week stint as a guest host of the show. Rodgers’ 10 episodes, which were filmed in February, begin airing on Monday, April 5.

“I watched hours and hours and hours of episodes,” Rodgers told ESPN. “Luckily Netflix has a few seasons, and I went back to DVR. But I had to watch from a different perspective — from Alex’s perspective. I couldn’t watch it as a fan anymore…I took pages and pages and pages of notes. I wrote down every affirmative that he said to any type of clue. I wrote down how he would respond if they didn’t get it right. I wrote down beat points of the show. I wrote down all the different ways he would take it to break. I wrote down the stuff that he said coming out of break. Literally, I studied for this like no other. I wanted to absolutely just crush it.”

All the preparation must have paid off. Even during the practice episode, Rodgers hit the ground running.

The 2020 NFL MVP, Rodgers is a long-time fan of the show and an admirer of Trebek’s work as a host. He also won an episode of “Celebrity Jeopardy!” in 2015.

The game show has used several guest hosts since Trebek’s passing. Rodgers is following Ken Jennings, Mike Richards, Katie Couric and Dr. Mehmet Oz. His shows will air from April 5-16. Anderson Cooper will follow.

Rodgers’ goal was to be as prepared as possible to step into Trebek’s shoes.

“..my whole thing was I felt like the best way to honor Alex’s memory was to be so dialed in and so ready, and that’s the approach I took,” Rodgers said, via ESPN. “So I was ready to rock and roll.”

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers to begin 10-show hosting stint on ‘Jeopardy!’ in April

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers won’t just be a one-time host of the iconic game show “Jeopardy!”

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers won’t just be a one-time host of the iconic game show “Jeopardy!”

According to Gary Levin of USA TODAY, the NFL’s MVP will have a 10-show stint as a guest host of the show starting on April 5 and lasting two weeks.

“Jeopardy!” is using several different guest hosts to keep the game show going after the death of long-time host Alex Trebek in November. Rodgers will follow news anchor Katie Couric and Dr. Mehmet Oz in the hosting rotation.

According to Levin, Rodgers taped his episodes over two days last month.

Rodgers, a lifelong fan of the show, won “Celebrity Jeopardy!” as a contestant in 2015.

“To be able to be a guest host is really, really special for me, and I can’t wait for the opportunity,” Rodgers told the “Pat McAfee Show” in January.
