2024 Olympic Games 3×3 men’s and women’s schedule announced

The USA 3×3 men’s and women’s national teams are slated to compete July 30-Aug. 5 in Paris.

With a little more than a month until the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony, FIBA announced the official schedule for the 3×3 basketball competition. The United States 3×3 men’s and women’s national teams are slated to compete July 30-Aug. 5 at Place de la Concorde.

The competition has eight teams on the men’s and women’s sides. Each team will play every other country before a play-in for teams placed third through sixth. The top two teams advance directly to the semifinals, and the bottom two teams in both pools will be eliminated.

“With less than 40 days to the Opening Ceremony in Paris, we are excited to know USA Basketball’s 3×3 pool play schedule as Games preparations continue,” said Jim Tooley, USA Basketball CEO. “We are looking forward to cheering the women’s team as they defend Olympic gold and watching the men’s squad compete for the first time on the Olympic stage.”

The American women, who are the reigning Olympic champions, face Germany in the first 3×3 game at 11:30 a.m. ET on July 30. The women’s roster consists of four athletes, including Cameron Brink, Cierra Burdick, Rhyne Howard and Hailey Van Lith. The team’s head coach is Jennifer Rizzotti, assisted by coach Tammi Reiss.

The men open group play against Serbia on July 30, followed by Poland on July 31 with both games starting at 4:35 p.m. ET. The roster consists of Canyon Barry, Jimmer Fredette, Kareem Maddox and Dylan Travis, with head coach Joe Lewandowski and assistant James Fraschilla rounding out the team.

Broadcast information, opponent rosters and more will be announced at a later date.

Team USA women win gold at the 3×3 AmeriCup in Puerto Rico

Dearica Hamby was named the tournament MVP and led her team in scoring with 33 points.

Team USA women’s 3×3 team won gold at the FIBA 3×3 AmeriCup on Sunday. The team consisted of Dearica Hamby (Los Angeles Sparks), Kelsey Mitchell (Indiana Fever), Katie Lou Samuelson (Los Angeles Sparks) and Camille Zimmerman (USO Mondeville).

Hamby was named the tournament MVP and led her team in scoring with 33 points. The scoring system is different in 3×3, with each bucket inside the arc earning one point and each bucket outside the arc earning two points.

This was the 3×3 debut for both Hamby and Mitchell. Hamby, however, was sure she would be able to adjust to the different style of play.

“I should be able to adjust to 3×3 pace because I’m an up-tempo-hustle-energy player,” Hamby said. “You can’t learn how to play this style until you do it, but it’s basketball at the end of the day.”

The team was coached by Jennifer Rizzotti, the team president for the Connecticut Sun and a former professional basketball player and coach.

Rizzotti shared this on Instagram in regards to Hamby’s amazing game-winning buzzer beater.

Who’s coaching the United States men’s and women’s basketball teams?

The NBA season ended just a few days ago but for fans who want their basketball fix, the Olympics will help.

The NBA season ended just a few days ago, but for fans who want their basketball fix, the Olympics will help provide necessary excitement.

When the United State’s men’s national team begins to play against other top competition from around the world, the men’s team will be coached by Gregg Popovich. He is a five-time NBA champion leading the San Antonio Spurs and has served as head coach for Team USA since taking over for Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski back in October 2015.

Also on the coaching staff for the United States is Steve Kerr, who won five NBA titles as a player and has also already been crowned champion three times as a coach. Kerr played for Popovich for several years when he was a professional player.

Others on the coaching staff are Lloyd Pierce — who was head coach of the Atlanta Hawks until this past season and was recently hired as lead assistant for the Indiana Pacers — as well as Villanova men’s basketball head coach Jay Wright.

Meanwhile, the United States women’s basketball team is led by Dawn Staley, who has held the position since 2017.

She played professional basketball for more than a decade both domestically and internationally and is now the head coach for South Carolina’s women’s basketball team. She was recently considered a candidate for the head coaching position with the Portland Trail Blazers.

Her staff includes Dan Hughes (who recently retired as head coach of the Seattle Storm), Minnesota Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve and former George Washington women’s basketball head coach Jennifer Rizzotti — who recently took over as head coach of the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun.

Men’s basketball at the Tokyo Olympics is set to begin Sunday, July 25, and Team USA’s first game is against France at 8 a.m. ET.

Women’s basketball at the Games begins Monday, July 26, and Team USA’s first matchup is against Nigeria at 12:40 a.m. ET on Tuesday, July 27.
