Alabama transfer defensive tackle announces commitment to Big 12 program

An Alabama transfer has committed to Deion Sanders and Colorado.

The first Alabama Crimson Tide football player to announce their intentions to enter the NCAA transfer portal this cycle, Jehiem Oatis has now made an official decision as to where he will play in 2025, committing to the Colorado Buffaloes.

Oatis previously announced his intentions to enter the portal back in October after he appeared in the first four games of the season for the Crimson Tide.

A former four-star prospect in Alabama’s 2022 class, Oatis saw significant playing time along the Crimson Tide’s defensive front in each of his three seasons in Tuscaloosa. Over that span, Oatis amassed a combined stat line of 57 tackles, three TFL, 1.5 sacks, and five PD.

This season, Oatis played in only four games prior to entering the portal, as mentioned above, where he had two tackles and one PD.

Oatis is now set to suit up for head coach Deion Sanders and Colorado in 2025 where the defensive tackle is expected to likely play a significant role.

Which Alabama players plan to enter the transfer portal?

Alabama has already seen some transfer portal movement so far this season.

When the 2024 college football season eventually comes to a close, all of the attention across the sport will shift toward the transfer portal which is certain to be action-packed from the start.

In fact, numerous players across college football have already announced their intentions to enter the transfer portal when it opens, some of whom are members of the Alabama Crimson Tide program.

Which players from Alabama have declared their intention to enter the transfer portal so far this season? Though the number will almost certainly rise, the list currently consists of two names:

Jehiem Oatis, Defensive Tackle

Oatis, a junior defensive tackle, announced his intentions to enter the portal as well as redshirt this season in early October. Across the past three seasons combined, Oatis had 57 tackles, three tackles for loss, 1 1/2 sacks and five passes defended for the Crimson Tide. He had two tackles and one pass defended this season.

Keanu Koht, Edge Rusher

Koht, an edge rusher, announced last week his intentions to depart the Crimson Tide program. A redshirt junior, Koht had a combined nine tackles, three TFL, 1/2 sack and one fumble recovery during his Alabama career. This season he had five tackles, one TFL and 1/2 sack this season.

Alabama defensive tackle to redshirt, enter NCAA transfer portal

The junior defensive tackle is reportedly entering the transfer portal.

After spending the first few seasons of his collegiate career in Tuscaloosa, Alabama Crimson Tide junior defensive tackle Jehiem Oatis announced Monday that he would be redshirting the 2024 season, as well as enter the NCAA transfer portal.

Oatis, a former four-star and Top 100 prospect in the 2022 class, was a key member of Alabama’s defensive front over his first two seasons with the Crimson Tide where he had a combined 55 tackles, three TFL, and 1.5 sacks.

However, Oatis has not necessarily seen as much action so far this season in Tuscaloosa, which is reportedly the reason behind the former four-star’s decision according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. So far this year, Oatis has a combined stat line of two tackles and one PD.

With Oatis now moving on, others such as Damon Payne Jr. and James Smith will likely continue to see increased playing time at defensive tackle moving forward for the Crimson Tide.
