POLL: What do you think of the Jeff Gladney signing?

Give your thoughts on the two-year deal the Cardinals gave cornerback Jeff Gladney to presumably be a starting cornerback in 2022.

Thus far, the Arizona Cardinals have only added one outside free agent. That was cornerback Jeff Gladney, the former Minnesota Vikings first-round pick, whom they signed to a two-year contract on Wednesday.

He projects as a starter this coming season. He is tough, physical and played in all 16 games as a rookie in 2020. He missed 2021 after he was released following an arrest and indictment for alleged violence against his former girlfriend.

He was recently acquitted of all charges by a jury.

As a rookie, he had 81 tackles, seven tackles for loss, three pass breakups and a forced fumble. He can play inside and outside.

What do you think of the move? Vote in the poll and give your thoughts in the comments section below.

Cardinals sign former Vikings CB Jeff Gladney to 2-year contract

Arizona makes their first outside free agent of the offseason with the addition of Gladney.

The Arizona Cardinals have made their first move in free agency not involving their own players. The team announced it signed cornerback Jeff Gladney to a two-year contract Wednesday.

It was reported the former Vikings defensive back visited the team on Tuesday.

Gladney, a 5-10, 191-lb cornerback, was drafted 31st overall by the Vikings in 2020. In 16 games as a rookie, he had 81 tackles and three pass breakups.

Following an indictment for the alleged assault of his former girlfriend last August, the Vikings released him.

However, he was found not guilty of the charges last week, clearing the way for a possible return to the NFL.

He has positional flexibility, able to play outside or in the slot.

The two-year deal suggests they view him as a starter.

As of now, he is slated to be one of the three top corners on defense, along with Byron Murphy and Marco Wilson.

Former Vikings CB Jeff Gladney signing with Cardinals

Vikings former first-round draft pick has a new home

Former Minnesota Vikings first-round draft pick, Jeff Gladney, is reportedly signing with the Arizona Cardinals in his NFL return.

Pro Football Network’s Aaron Wilson reported the news as a two-year deal on Wednesday.

Gladney, the former No. 31 overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft, was cut by the Vikings after being indicted on felony assault charges stemming from a domestic incident in back April 2021. However, in March, a Texas jury in Dallas County Court found the former TCU standout not guilty of the alleged assault.

Gladney started in 15 games as a rookie with the Vikings and finished out his tenure with 81 tackles, three pass deflections and one forced fumble.

He is one of three cornerbacks the team has spent a first-round pick on in the last seven NFL Drafts. None are currently on the roster.

As Gladney moves on to Arizona, the Vikings have their work cut out for them in rebuilding their struggling defensive backfield.

Cardinals kicking the tires on former Vikings CB Jeff Gladney

Could Gladney be one of their answers at cornerback for the upcoming season?

The Arizona Cardinals have begun some work in free agency with players from other teams. After re-signing five of their own players, they are looking at a free agent cornerback who was a former first-round pick.

According to Jordan Schultz and confirmed by Aaron Wilson, the Cardinals are bringing in former Minnesota Vikings cornerback Jeff Gladney for a visit Tuesday night.

The Cardinals have a large need at cornerback. He might not be the answer to their hole in the starting lineup with Robert Alford a free agent starting Wednesday, but he at least is young talent who can compete for a job if the team decides to sign him.

Chiefs could be landing spot for former Vikings CB Jeff Gladney

Acquitted from assault charges, former #Vikings CB Jeff Gladney makes plenty of sense for the #Chiefs.

Could the Kansas City Chiefs pursue former Minnesota Vikings CB Jeff Gladney now that he has been cleared of felony charges?

Last August, Gladney was indicted on a felony assault charge. He was released by the Vikings just hours afterward. On Thursday, Gladney was acquitted of the charges by a jury in Dallas, Texas.

A former TCU standout, Gladney was drafted with pick No. 31 in the 2020 NFL draft, one pick prior to the Chiefs’ selection of RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire. The team showed interest in him ahead of the draft, hosting Gladney on one of their allotted virtual pre-draft visits.

The Chiefs are no stranger to giving players second chances, especially at the cornerback position. They did so with former first-round draft pick Deandre Baker, who was released by the New York Giants due to allegations of armed robbery. Baker was eventually cleared and eventually joined the Chiefs’ practice squad. He is going on his third season in Kansas City after being tendered as an exclusive rights free agent.

At the same time, the Chiefs tried to do the same thing with troubled CB Damon Arnette, formerly of the Las Vegas Raiders. That didn’t last after he was arrested on a litany of charges in late January and subsequently released by Kansas City. This also speaks to the low-risk nature of these types of signings, though. If it doesn’t work out, you simply move on.

Gladney, 25, fits GM Brett Veach’s modus operandi and a one-year deal could be beneficial for both parties. The Chiefs have needs in the secondary with CB Charvarius Ward slated to hit free agency. Gladney needs to prove that he’s capable of staying out of trouble and playing at a high level in the NFL. The 5-10 and 191-pound corner played only his rookie season, starting 15-of-16 games in 2020, with 81 total tackles and a forced fumble on the year.
