LSU’s tight end room continues to trend up with 2025 recruiting class

LSU’s 2025 recruiting class ensures LSU’s tight end room remains one of the nation’s best.

LSU’s tight end room saw immediate improvement when [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] arrived at LSU. Kelly programs have a history of producing tight ends and it helped that former LSU OC [autotag]Mike Denbrock[/autotag] oversaw the position directly.

[autotag]Mason Taylor[/autotag] made an immediate impact as a true freshman in 2022. That December, LSU beefed the room up more, signing two blue-chip tight ends, including [autotag]Ka’Morreun Pimpton[/autotag]. In the 2024 cycle, LSU signed [autotag]Trey’Dez Green[/autotag], the top tight end in the class.

Now with the 2025 class taking form, LSU is continuing the trend. Last week, three-star tight end [autotag]Mike Tyler[/autotag] committed to LSU, giving LSU its second tight end of the class. He joins four-star [autotag]JD LaFleur[/autotag], who committed over a year ago.

LSU positioned itself to have one of the top tight end cores in the country this year with Taylor, Pimpton and Green,

Pimpton and Green are sill underclassmen but reports indicate they’re ready to make an impact this fall. Even if Taylor declares for the draft after a good year, LSU’s 2025 class ensures this group will remain one of most talented in the FBS next year.

Tight end play wasn’t always a highlight at LSU. The Tigers have had plenty of tight ends that get it done in the run game, but it’s hard to remember a time when the tight end group posed this big of a threat in the receiving game.

The personnel led LSU to roll with some 12 personnel and even experiment with 13 personnel in this camp.

Kelly used those looks a lot at Notre Dame and with the future looking bright, multiple tight end sets could be a staple at LSU these next few years.

LSU lands 3-star tight end Mike Tyler over South Carolina, others

The Columbia, South Carolina, native ultimately chose the Tigers over the hometown Gamecocks.

[autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] and his recruiting staff have added another commitment to the 2025 recruiting class. This time it’s a three-star tight end from South Carolina’s backyard.

[autotag]Mike Tyler[/autotag] is a 6-foot-3, 230-pound, three-star tight end from Columbia, South Carolina. He chose the Tigers over South Carolina, NC State, Ole Miss, Georgia Tech and others.

Tyler becomes the 23rd commit of the 2025 class and the second tight end commit in the class. The other tight end commit is [autotag]JD LaFleur[/autotag], a three-star tight end from Sulphur High School in Louisiana.

LSU’s 2025 class is currently ranked as the No. 3 class in the country according to 247Sports. The Tigers are only behind Ohio State and Alabama for the No. 1 spot in the class.

Kelly has recruited a top 10 class every year since coming to Baton Rouge and the 2025 class looks like it could be the greatest recruiting class in his coaching career. I don’t think he is anywhere close to being finished with it either.

3-star LSU tight end target announces commitment date

A three-star LSU target announced his decision date.

A three-star tight end announced his commitment date and set his top three this week, with LSU making the cut.

Per On3, [autotag]Mike Tyler[/autotag] out of South Carolina will decide between LSU, Duke and West Virginia and the choice will be announced on Aug. 17.

At 6-foot-4, 220 pounds, Tyler fits the mold of tight end LSU’s signed in recent years. The Tigers have put a premium on athletic tight ends who can make an impact in the passing game, such as [autotag]Trey’Dez Green[/autotag] and [autotag]Kamorreun Pimpton[/autotag].

“I am working to make my final decision. The relationships with the position coach, the offense and who I feel can develop me best for the NFL are things I am still thinking about,” Tyler told On3.

According to On3’s prediction machine, LSU is the heavy favorite with a 95.3% chance of landing Tyler.

Tyler would be the second tight end to join LSU’s 2025 class, adding to four-star [autotag]JD LaFleur[/autotag] who committed over a year ago.

The class is already in the top three in the nation, but LSU is just below some other teams from a volume standpoint. Adding Tyler would help beef up the class and give LSU its 22nd commit.

LSU picks up a crystal ball projection for 3-star visiting tight end

Mike Tyler is visiting this weekend, and LSU could be poised to take a tight end from South Carolina’s backyard.

LSU has quite a cast of visitors in town on Friday including two uncommitted five-stars in top safety [autotag]Jonah Williams[/autotag] and receiver [autotag]Jaime Ffrench[/autotag].

The Tigers will hope for an impactful recruiting weekend, but they already find themselves in a strong position for one of Friday’s visitors as they look to steal a three-star tight end from South Carolina’s backyard.

LSU is playing host to [autotag]Mike Tyler[/autotag], a Columbia, South Carolina, native. Ahead of Tyler’s visit on Thursday, 247Sports LSU insider Sonny Shipp placed a crystal ball for the Tigers to land him. The Gamecocks previously held the lone crystal ball projection, which was placed back in April.

The 6-foot-4 prospect ranks No. 661 nationally and as the No. 32 tight end in the class, according to the 247Sports composite. LSU already has one tight end commitment from legacy [autotag]JD LaFleur[/autotag], and it looks like it could be in a position to add another.

LSU’s 2025 class moves into top 5 with Dakorien Moore’s commitment

The Tigers’ are off to a very nice start in the 2025 cycle.

It’s still very early in the 2025 recruiting cycle, which won’t officially begin for a few more months. But LSU got a huge early boost for the class by landing five-star 2025 receiver [autotag]Dakorien Moore[/autotag] on Saturday.

The Duncanville, Texas, prospect joined his high school teammate in [autotag]Caden Durham[/autotag], a 2024 running back who committed to the Tigers on Thursday.

With Moore on board, LSU has its highest-rated commitment in the 2025 class so far. Moore ranks as the No. 5 player in the country according to 247Sports’ rankings, and he sits at No. 11 in the site’s industry composite rankings.

After that addition, LSU’s class ranks fifth nationally per 247Sports and fourth according to On3.

Moore joins a class that also features a pair of legacies in four-star offensive lineman [autotag]Brett Bordelon[/autotag] and four-star tight end [autotag]JD LaFleur[/autotag], as well as three-star cornerback [autotag]Jaylen Bell[/autotag].

BREAKING: LSU lands 5-star wide receiver in 2025 class

LSU has snagged another super-talented athlete from Duncanville High School in Dakorien Moore.

Just a few days after landing one of the best running backs in the country for the 2024 recruiting class in [autotag]Caden Durham[/autotag], LSU snagged another super-talented athlete from Duncanville High School.

This time, LSU landed a five-star wide receiver who is ranked as the No. 5 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class and the No. 2 wide receiver in the class. [autotag]Dakorien Moore[/autotag] is 5-foot-11 and 175 pounds, and he is a monster for Duncanville.

Last season, he finished with 44 receptions for 764 yards and 6 TDs (17.4 per catch) for the Texas 6A D-I state champions as a sophomore. Like Caden Durham, Moore runs track as he anchored Duncanville’s Texas 6A state championship 4×200 relay and ran the third leg for the silver medal-winning 4×100 relay.

Moore is the first huge commitment of the 2025 recruiting class. He became the fourth commit joining [autotag]JD LaFleur[/autotag], [autotag]Brett Bordelon[/autotag] and [autotag]Jaylen Bell[/autotag]. LSU’s 2025 recruiting class is currently ranked as the No. 4 overall recruiting class by 247Sports.

BREAKING: Tigers land 2025 legacy tight end JD LaFleur

JD LaFleur is the son of former All-American LSU tight end David LaFleur.

LSU picked up its third commitment in the 2025 recruiting cycle, and this time it’s a player with a last name fans should be familiar with.

Four-star Sulphur, Louisiana, tight end [autotag]JD LaFleur[/autotag] announced his commitment to the Tigers on Tuesday afternoon. LaFleur is an LSU legacy as his father, [autotag]David LaFleur[/autotag], played for the Tigers from 1992-96, becoming one of the best tight ends in program history.

The elder LaFleur earned All-SEC honors twice and Third-Team All-American honors in his final season.

His son ranks inside the top 350 nationally according to both On3 and 247Sports’ composite rankings, though the latter has him as a three-star prospect. LaFleur is a top-15 tight end in the cycle according to 247Sports.

LSU has made recruiting tight ends a big priority since Brian Kelly arrived on campus, and now they’ve landed the top tight end in the state of Louisiana in next year’s class.
