Alabama no longer recruiting transfer Jaykwon Walton following arrest

Following an arrest on Saturday, Jaykwon Walton will no longer be recruited by the Crimson Tide.

Alabama men’s basketball head coach Nate Oats made it clear that the Crimson Tide will no longer be recruiting Wichita State transfer, Jaykwon Walton. This comes shortly after Walton was arrested in Tuscaloosa on a charge of second-degree marijuana possession.

“[Alabama is] no longer recruiting Jaykwon Walton and he will not be a student-athlete at the University of Alabama,” said Oats.

Walton’s career began at Georgia, where he played for two seasons. He then transferred to Shelton State and then to Wichita State. Alabama was expected to be his fourth destination, but that will no longer be the case.

Alabama MBB lands commitment from Wichita State transfer Jaykwon Walton

The Alabama men’s basketball team picked up a big-time commitment from transfer Jaykwon Walton.

The Alabama basketball team picked up a commitment from Wichita State transfer Jaykwon Walton on Tuesday.

Walton was recruited heavily by the Alabama coaching staff coming out of high school. However, he ultimately decided to commit to Georgia. As a Bulldog, he averaged 1.6 points per game and shot 45.5% from the field.

After spending two seasons with the Bulldogs, Walton transferred to Shelton State Community College.

As a Buccaneer, he averaged 13.6 points per game, 4.4 rebounds per game, and 2.9 assists per game. He also shot an efficient 47.4% from the field and 36.2% from three.

Following his redshirt-sophomore season, he then transferred to play for Wichita State. In his lone season with the Shockers, Walton averaged 13.9 points per game, 5.3 rebounds per game, and 1.9 assists per game.

He also shot a career-high 53.5% from the field while shooting a stellar 40% from beyond the arc.

Alabama has recruited Walton several times since he graduated from Carver High School in 2019. The Alabama native returns to his home state to suit up for Nate Oats and the Crimson Tide.

This is a huge commitment for Alabama considering the Tide’s leading scorer, Brandon Miller, is expected to declare for the NBA Draft. Walton would likely be the replacement for Miller next season.
