Jay Jones decommits from Tennessee

Tennessee Vols’ football recruiting news.

Just hours after 4-star tight end Hudson Wolfe announced his decommitment from Tennessee, 3-star safety Jay Jones from Demopolis, Alabama also renounced his commitment to the Vols.

Jones is 6-foot-1, 200 pound prospect that the 247Sports Composite rates as the No. 79 safety in the country and the No. 36 player in Alabama.

Defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach Derrick Ansley is still listed as his primary recruiter.

Jones also has offers from Ole Miss, Arkansas and South Alabama.

Tennessee’s recruiting class is now down to 23 prospects, and ranks as the No. 14 class in the country.

Along with Jones, the Vols have lost commitments from 5-star linebacker Terrence Lewis, 4-star defensive back Damarius McGhee and 4-star tight end Hudson Wolfe in the last two weeks.

The early signing period takes place Dec. 16-18 for the 2021 recruiting class. National signing day is Feb. 3.
