Notre Dame adds Ohio State defensive end from transfer portal

It doesn’t solve the problems on the defensive line but its a step in the right direction…

It hasn’t been a week to remember for Notre Dame in the transfer portal, but it received good news on Friday.  Former Ohio State defensive end Javonte Jean-Baptiste, who played parts of five seasons with the Buckeyes, announced his intention to transfer to Notre Dame for the 2023 season.

Jean-Baptiste was a rotational defensive end for the Buckeyes this past season. He recorded 19 tackles, four sacks and 4.5 tackles for a loss.

Notre Dame is in a desperate need of bodies for the defensive front after suffering significant losses this offseason. All-American defensive end Isaiah Foskey, the program’s all-time sacks leader, is off to the NFL. Defensive tackle Jayson Ademilola and defensive end Justin Ademilola are headed there as well.

Where Jean-Baptiste ends up playing most of the time remains to be seen, but after some misses on the defensive line in the transfer portal so far this off-season by Notre Dame, this addition certainly helps the depth.
