While most of the recruiting focus for Texas A&M head coach Buzz Williams is focused on the transfer portal, a handful of uncommitted 2023 prospects remain, including shooting guard Jason Rivera-Torres, one of Williams’ last remaining priority recruiting targets.
Out of John Marshall High School in Richmond, Virginia, Rivera-Torres is ranked as the 24th shooting guard and 3rd-ranked player in Virginia. As it stands, his final program list will come down to Fordham, San Diego, Florida Atlantic, Vanderbilt, and Texas A&M.
In an interview with 247Sports, Rivera-Torres revealed what every program brings to the table during his final decision process, and while discussing Texas A&M’s alluring qualities, he stated,
“I love the way Texas A&M plays. I think their system is great. I’ve built a good relationship with Coach Vince and he also has a great relationship with my high school coaches. He’s sent multiple letters showing his interests which means a lot.”
Standing at 6-6, Rivera-Torres projects on the surface as a 3 and D type Wing player, but while explaining how he’d like to be used at the collegiate level, Buzz Williams’ system may just be a perfect fit after all.
“I want to be used as a versatile guard/wing at the next level. I want to be in a system where I can showcase my game and where I’ll be able to make an impact.”
