Colorado wide receivers coach Jason Phillips speaks on recent wave of injuries

Colorado’s wide receivers coach was asked about the recent wave of injuries to his room

Colorado football wide receivers coach Jason Phillips has seen a lot in his 25-plus years of coaching, but he’s never witnessed anything like what happened last weekend in the Buffs’ loss to Kansas State.

The Buffs lost four wide receivers to injury on Saturday, including star players Travis Hunter and Jimmy Horn Jr. Omarion Miller stepped up and was having a huge game, finishing with eight catches for 145 yards before suffering a leg injury that will cost him extended time. Terrell Timmons Jr. was also taken to the locker room late in the second half with a leg injury.

Fortunately for Colorado, Hunter and Horn are expected to play in Colorado’s Week 8 game against Arizona, per head coach Deion Sanders. Miller and Timmons, however, are out.

On Wednesday, Phillips was asked about the injuries to his wide receiver room:

“I never had that situation happen to me before,” Phillips said of the injuries. “But I tell you what, the guys in the room, that’s why you coach them all. You get everybody ready to play. You have a travel squad list of guys, which is 11 for us, so you get all those guys ready to play. I thought the backups stepped in and did a great job. I’m not bothered by that at all because I think we’ll get a couple of guys back. I don’t know when, but we’ll get them back. I thought those guys stepped in and did the job that we all expected.”

Colorado football assistant coaches to make record amount in 2024

Colorado’s assistant coaches will be making a record amount this year

Deion Sanders’ coaching staff will look a little different entering his second season leading the Colorado Buffaloes.

Both of last year’s coordinators and multiple position coaches have moved on, and defensive coordinator Robert Livingston, O-line coach Phil Loadholt and wide receivers coach Jason Phillips are all new to Boulder. Pat Shurmur has been promoted to full-time offensive coordinator and defensive analyst Vincent Dancy will be coaching Colorado’s outside linebackers.

With that, Coach Prime’s 2024 staff will be the highest-paid in program history. According to BuffZone, Colorado’s 10 full-time assistant coaches will be paid a “combined $4.65 million in base and supplemental salary,” up from last year’s previous record amount of $4.59 million.

Here’s how much each of Colorado football’s new/promoted assistant coaches will be making in 2024:
