Jason McCourty shares a heartwarming message after leaving the Patriots

The cornerback is headed to the Dolphins, but he stopped to thank the Patriots.

New England Patriots cornerback Jason McCourty shared heartwarming message after leaving for the Miami Dolphins.

He took to Twitter to address the fanbase, the ownership and the coaching staff ahead of leaving for Miami to play for former Patriots defensive play-caller Brian Flores, who is the Dolphins coach.

“Thank you to RKK (Robert Kraft) and Coach Belichick for giving me a chance to wear the Patriots uniform,” McCourty wrote. “For the past three seasons, I’ve gotten a chance to live out a childhood dream, playing alongside my brother while winning a championship and building lifelong friendships. Thank you to everyone within the New England Patriots organization.”

McCourty served in a mix of starting roles and a substitutional roles during his seasons with the Patriots. His biggest moment in New England came on a pass breakup during Super Bowl LIII when the Patriots beat the Los Angeles Rams. McCourty tracked down an arcing pass attempt for Rams receiver Brandin Cooks in the end zone, and the cornerback managed to knock away what seemed like an imminent touchdown.

McCourty’s departure leaves the cornerback depth chart with Stephon Gilmore, J.C. Jackson, Jalen Mills, Joejuan Williams, Myles Bryant, Michael Jackson, D’Angelo Ross and Dee Virgin, among others.

Patriots CB Jason McCourty blasts NFL, NFLPA amid COVID-19 outbreak

The quarterback thinks the league does not care about player’s health.

As the New England Patriots-Denver Broncos game has been officially postponed, there is a growing sentiment among players that the NFLPA does not care about their health and safety when it comes to COVID-19.

Cornerback Jason McCourty questioned the NFL and NFLPA on Saturday. He was critical of the protocols, which seem to be coming short in providing the players with true safety. McCourty mentioned New England’s trip to Kansas City as an example of this. Cam Newton had tested positive for COVID-19 only three days prior to the game.

For his part, McCourty has been talking to the NFL Players Association over this past week trying to figure out what is the best way for the players to play safely.

“I think outside of here, the people that don’t have to walk in our building — whether it is the league office, whether it is the NFLPA — they don’t care,” McCourty said. “For them, it is not about our best interest, or our health and safety, it is about, ‘What can we make protocol-wise that sounds good, looks good, and how can we go out there and play games?’ I think what I kind of learned personally throughout this situation is it is going to be up to us as individuals in this building to just really take care of one another.”

It will be interesting to see what, if any, protocols the NFL adjusts. With more teams and players contracting COVID-19 each week, one has to wonder if this season may eventually be in jeopardy.
