UNC basketball grabs lead in On3 prediction for five-star recruit

Is the UNC basketball program in the lead for this five-star recruit that could be ready to make a decision?

With a three-man class in the 2024 basketball recruiting cycle, North Carolina currently holds the No. 1 class. But Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels may not be done just yet.

North Carolina is still in pursuit of five-star recruit Jarin Stevenson and it sounds like this recruitment might be coming to an end soon. According to Jamie Shaw of On3, the Tar Heels are battling it out with Alabama to land the talented in-state recruit.

Looking at Stevenson’s On3 profile, the Tar Heels also have the lead in the recruiting prediction machine. UNC holds a 29.8 percent edge over Virginia who is at 26 percent.

The Tar Heels took the lead back in late May and with Stevenson on UNC’s campus early in June, they might be the favorite here this Summer.

Stevenson hasn’t officially announced a decision date just yet and technically, he could still reclassify, but this is a recruitment that feels like it will end sooner than later. And if UNC can pull it off, it would just add another five-star to their already talented class.

Five-star target talks Tar Heels ahead of visit to UNC

A five-star UNC basketball recruiting target talks about the Tar Heels ahead of his visit.

Tuesday was a busy day for the UNC basketball program and Hubert Davis.

It started with the Tar Heels receiving word that five-star point guard Elliot Cadeau will reclassify from 2024 to the 2023 class. It’s a big decision for Cadeau, who is one of the top players in the country at his position.

But he may not be the only 2024 prospect joining UNC early.

The Tar Heels are hosting five-star forward [autotag]Jarin Stevenson[/autotag] on Tuesday. He is a long-time UNC target and has also discussed reclassifying into 2023. If he does, UNC has a spot open.

Ahead of his visit, Stevenson talked to Travis Branham of 247Sports. Here is what he said about UNC:

North Carolina: “I am looking forward to hanging out with the coaches and seeing the facilities again. If there are players there then I am excited to hang with them and see what’s up. He’s a great coach and a great person, I know that. We talked a bit and he cares about his players. He has high morale and just a great person.”

The Tar Heels aren’t the only team involved with Stevenson. Virginia, Alabama, Missouri and Georgetown are also all in pursuit.

This visit will also be the last for Stevenson ahead of a decision that is likely coming by the end of summer per the article.

Forward Jarin Stevenson is close to making a decision on a commitment and reclassifying, and he plans to visit North Carolina before that decision. Per Inside Carolina, Stevenson will be on UNC’s campus Tuesday, May 30 for his official visit.

This visit is significant for both sides. Stevenson has been on the Tar Heels’ campus a few times, but scheduling the official visit this close to a decision is good news.

Stevenson has drawn interest from other programs in his recruitment, taking visits to Virginia, Georgetown and Missouri.

The 6-foot-10, 200-pound forward out of Pittsboro has been a big recruiting target for the Tar Heels since earning an offer from Hubert Davis in October 2021.

With the Tar Heels having a scholarships available for the upcoming season, they have room to add Stevenson to the roster.

Five-star 2024 UNC basketball target to decide soon on future

UNC basketball five-star recruiting target Jarin Stevenson is set to make a decision on reclassifying or staying put very soon.

After the madness of the transfer portal has come to a halt somewhat, the UNC basketball program has a clearer picture of the roster for the 2023-24 season.

North Carolina lost seven players to the portal while adding four more. As it stands now, they gave room to add three more players. There are rumors that the Tar Heels could add 2024 five-star commit cWATCH: Highlights of UNC commit Elliot Cadeau as a reclassification but he may not be the only one. Fellow 2024 five-star recruit Jarin Stevenson is a big UNC target and like Cadeau, he could also reclassify and join a program early. And a decision is close to being made.

In an interview with Jaylen Harrell of 247Sports, Stevenson talked about where his recruitment stands and the decision ahead. He revealed that he will be making a decision in the coming weeks:

What’s your timeline for deciding on reclassification and deciding on your school?
By the end of the school year I’ll probably make a decision, which is June 9. That’s the end of my school year, so that’s the timeline right now.

The 6-foot-10, 200-pound Stevenson is a Pittsboro, North Carolina native that is ranked No.12 nationally, the No. 1 power forward and No. 2 player in the state of North Carolina per the 247Sports recruiting rankings.

He has a total of 7 offers and has taken multiple visits including to UNC, Virginia, Georgetown, and Missouri.

UNC staff pushing for commitment from top 2024 target

The UNC basketball coaching staff is ‘pushing for’ a commitment from a top 2024 five-star target.

The UNC basketball program already holds the top class in 2024, but it is still pushing hard for the finishing touches.

One of those pieces is five-star forward [autotag]Jarin Stevenson[/autotag]. Stevenson is ranked as the No. 14 player on the 247Sports composite and the No. 2 power forward in the class.

The Tar Heels have been involved with Stevenson longer than nearly every prospect in the 2024 class.

To this point, there has been no commitment or feel when he will announce a decision. That hasn’t stopped the Tar Heels from trying, however.

“They’re pushing for it,” Stevenson said of UNC’s staff wanting him to commit.

The North Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year this season playing for Seaforth (NC) averaged 21.5 points and 11.6 rebounds per game this season.

North Carolina, Georgetown, Missouri, NC State, Virginia and Wake Forest, among others, are after Stevenson.

The pro option is also a route the family is considering, but it seems the secondary thought at the moment. A potential reclassification is on the table as well, but Stevenson has been open about wanting to take his time and not rush into anything.

For now, it’s wait-and-see with Stevenson. But, there’s no doubt that North Carolina and Hubert Davis want Stevenson in Chapel Hill.

Key UNC target talks potential of reclassifying to 2023 class

Key 2024 UNC basketball target discusses the potential of reclassifying to the 2023 class — leaving the door open to make the move.

While the UNC basketball 2023 recruiting class is just a two-man class at the moment, there is the possibility of adding to it.

Four-star guard Simeon Wilcher and four-star forward Zayden High will enroll in the summer … but could a five-star join them?

Current 2024 top-15 forward [autotag]Jarin Stevenson[/autotag] has had rumors about his potentially reclassifying surrounding his recruitment. As of now, he’s staying in 2024, but he is not closing the door on a move to the 2023 class.

“Right now, it is just an option, there is nothing set in stone,” Stevenson told 247Sports. “I am still seeing things out and testing what the schools got and seeing if it is the best option. I think the odds are between 40- and 50-percent (to reclassify).”

The 6-foot-10 Stevenson is the No. 12 overall prospect in the 2024 class in the 247Sports rankings. He is also the top overall prospect in North Carolina and the No. 2 overall power forward.

Throughout his recruitment, Stevenson has visited UNC numerous times, and he’s planning another return visit after the college season ends.

NC State, Duke, Virginia, Missouri, Georgetown, Arkansas and others are some of the main programs involved in his recruitment.

2024 UNC target aiming for return visit to Chapel Hill

A key 2024 UNC basketball target is aiming for a return visit to Chapel Hill very soon.

The UNC basketball program holds the top overall recruiting class in 2024 but it isn’t finished yet.

One key target for Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels is five-star forward [autotag]Jarin Stevenson[/autotag].

The 6-foot-10 Stevenson is the No. 12 overall prospect in the 2024 class in the 247Sports rankings. He is also the top overall prospect in North Carolina and the No. 2 overall power forward.

Already taking numerous visits to UNC, Stevenson is looking, again, to return to Chapel Hill.

“Thinking definitely UNC and Virginia,” Stevenson told 247sports. “Then I would have one more visit left open.”

There have been rumors swirling around this recruitment that UNC will be the landing spot. Not only is he from the state, but also his mom played basketball at North Carolina.

Recently, Stevenson said he is looking to make a decision in his recruitment by the end of the summer.

‘They’re a great school. … Coach Davis is great. The players there seem cool, too, so I like the University of North Carolina.”

NC State, Duke, Virginia, Missouri, Georgetown and Arkansas are among the main programs involved in his recruitment.

Stevenson’s junior season recently ended in heartbreaking fashion, but only after he recorded his second-triple double of the year.

2024 UNC target loses playoff game in heartbreaking fashion

One 2024 UNC basketball target loses in heartbreaking fashion in the second round of the state playoffs.

A key UNC basketball target had his postseason run come to an abrupt end last week in heartbreaking fashion.

2024 five-star forward [autotag]Jarin Stevenson[/autotag] and Seaforth (NC) lost by one, 61-60, to East Carteret in the second round of the 2A playoffs.

A few days after posting a triple-double, Stevenson had 21 points in the loss. Two of his 21 came with 6.4 seconds left as he tied the game at 60. Then, a questionable call led to free throws for East Carteret — ultimately producing the win.

Seaforth was the 9-seed heading into the playoffs and ends the season 18-9.

In Stevenson’s recruitment, the main schools involved are North Carolina, NC State, Missouri, Virginia and Wake Forest among others. Stevenson is rated as the No. 10 overall prospect in the class of 2024 247Sports rankings. He is the No. 1 player in North Carolina and the No. 2 power forward nationally.

247Sports national recruiting analyst Travis Branham recently broke down his game.

“He’s long, he’s lean, he can really run and he’s very agile in the lane. He’s going to build his face up game down the road but the times he was active around the rim he was tough to deal with… As he learns to mix unleashing his inner dog with expanding his faceup game, he’s got the tools to be very problematic for opposing defenders.”

UNC holds four commitments in the class of 2024 and has the top-rated class in the country.

Key 2024 UNC target posts triple double in playoff win

One key 2024 UNC basketball target posted a triple double in a playoff win.

As the high school season winds down, key UNC basketball targets are putting together significant performances.

One of those was from a key target in 2024 five-star forward [autotag]Jarin Stevenson[/autotag]. Stevenson posted his second triple-double of the season over the weekend. He had 18 points, 13 rebounds and 10 blocks.

It was in the first round of the 2A postseason playoffs for Seaforth (NC) High School.

The 6-foot-10 Stevenson is ranked as the No. 10 overall prospect in the 2024 class in the 247Sports rankings. He is also rated as the top overall prospect in North Carolina and the No. 2 overall power forward.

UNC has been one of the main programs involved in Stevenson’s recruitment for the entire part of the process.

There has always been a connection to the program as his mom played basketball at North Carolina.

Despite having four commitments in the class already, the Tar Heels are remaining very active in trying to land Stevenson. The entire UNC basketball staff was recently at one of his games, showing that they are keeping him as a top priority.

Recently, Stevenson said he is looking to make a decision in his recruitment by the ‘end of the summer’.

The Tar Heels currently hold the top ranked recruiting class in the 2024 team rankings.
