Report: Former Vikings DE Jared Allen not named to 2021 Hall of Fame class

Former Minnesota Vikings DE Jared Allen was not enshrined into the 2021 Hall of Fame Class.

Former Vikings defensive end Jared Allen, a finalist for the Hall of Fame, was not named to the 2021 Class, Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press first reported.

Allen was one of 15 finalists for this year’s class. He joined QB Peyton Manning, DB Charles Woodson and WR Calvin Johnson as players to be selected as finalists in their first year of eligibility.

Allen earning finalist honors in his first year of eligibility is a positive sign. He’ll have to wait until at least next year to find out if he does eventually get into the Hall of Fame, though.

For the Vikings, Allen arrived via trade after he played for the Chiefs. The defensive end tallied 22 sacks in 2011 and had more than 14 sacks in three different seasons with the Vikings.

Allen was a part of the 2009 Vikings team that made it to the NFC Championship before losing in heartbreaking fashion to the Saints. Allen was never able to bring a Super Bowl to Minnesota, but his tenacious play and absurd stats will go down in history.

Corrections/Clarifications: An earlier version of this article misidentified Allen’s arrival to Minnesota. He came over via trade.

Former Vikings DE Carl Eller hopes Jared Allen joins him in the Hall of Fame

Do you think Minnesota Vikings DE Jared Allen will make the Hall of Fame tonight?

Former Vikings DE Carl Eller was a key member of the “Purple People Eaters” and helped Bud Grant’s defenses stifle opposing offenses.

While Eller’s former teammate, Jim Marshall, is yet to be enshrined in the Hall of Fame, Eller was inducted in 2004.

Now, there’s another Vikings defensive lineman who is getting close to enshrinement. Jared Allen is one of 15 Pro Football Hall of Fame finalists for 2021. Eller had high praise for Allen:

“It’d be a great honor and I’d love to see him get in,” Eller told Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press. “He had all the tools he needed and he was a great motivator for the team. He’s facing some tough competition, but certainly I think he deserves to be in there.”

We’ll find out whether Allen makes it or not on Saturday. The class will be announced during the broadcast of “NFL Honors,” an awards special at 8 p.m. C.T. on CBS.

Former Vikings DE Jared Allen announced as a Hall of Fame semifinalist

Congratulations to former Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen, who was named a Pro Football Hall of Fame Semifinalist.

If Jared Allen keeps this up, sculptors might be tasked with putting a mullet into bust form and the Vikings may have another player enshrined in Canton, Ohio.

In Allen’s first year of eligibility, the former Vikings defensive end has been named a Pro Football Hall of Fame semifinalist.

He is one of four semifinalists to be named in their first year of eligibility. The other three are Calvin Johnson, Peyton Manning and Charles Woodson.

Allen is also one of 15 defensive players tabbed as a semifinalist. He is among the there defensive linemen picked.

Allen came to the Vikings in 2008. During his stint with the team, he tallied 22 sacks in 2011 and had over 14 sacks in three different seasons with Minnesota.

Allen was a key member of the 2009 Vikings team that made it as far as the NFC Championship before losing in heartbreaking fashion to the Saints. Sure, he never brought a Super Bowl to Minnesota, but he was a beacon of consistency on defense and well regarded by fans.

Former Chiefs DE Jared Allen among semifinalists for Pro Football Hall of Fame’s 2021 class

Allen is one of just four first-year eligible players among 25 semifinalists for the 2021 class.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame has announced Modern-Era semifinalists for their Class of 2021.

Only one former Kansas City Chiefs player has made it to the group of 25 semi-finalists. Jared Allen is one of just four first-year eligible players to be selected as a semifinalist along with Peyton Manning, Calvin Johnson and Charles Woodson.

Allen was a fourth-round draft pick by the Chiefs in 2004 out of Idaho State and he exceeded all expectations with the team. He started 10 games as a rookie, recording 31 total tackles, nine sacks, and 10 tackles for loss. In 2007, Allen had the best season of his career to that point. He led the NFL in sacks with 15.5 and earned first-team All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors.

Unfortunately, Allen wouldn’t last long in Kansas City. In 2008, Allen was traded to the Vikings for a haul of draft picks, including the one that was used to draft running back Jamaal Charles. Allen played for eight seasons after leaving the Chiefs with stops in Minnesota, Chicago and Carolina before retiring officially in February of 2016 with an epic retirement video.

When it was all said and done, Allen would be a four-time First-Team All-Pro, a five-time Pro Bowler, and a two-time NFL sack leader. He tallied 136 sacks during his career, which is currently good for No. 12 on the all-time list.

The next step in the selection process is to trim this group down to 15 Modern-Era semifinalists. Eventually, it’ll be whittled down to just five Modern-Era players. The group originally was comprised of 130 players. The 2021 Pro Football Hall of Fame class will be decided and announced during the week leading up to Super Bowl LV.

Six iconic Vikings named to list of best NFL players to wear each jersey number

Fran Tarkenton was listed as the best player to wear No. 10. Jared Allen? He was No. 69. See who else made it here!

Minnesota has had plenty of iconic players through the years, and some players were so prolific they were listed as the best to wear their respective numbers.

Our friends at Raiders Wire compiled a comprehensive list of the best NFL player to wear every single jersey number. The Vikings were well represented with six players, who were most well known for being on Minnesota, cracking the list. Players like Brett Favre, Gary Zimmerman and Donovan McNabb also made the ranks, but had more memorable seasons on different teams.

Here were the Minnesota players, followed by a brief explanation for each.

Fran Tarkenton

Tarkenton claimed the No. 10 on Raiders Wire’s list. Inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame, he was named to Pro Football Reference’s list of first-team All-Decade for the 1960s and second-team All-Decade for the 1970s.

He was a quarterback who was known for making plays with his feet. He said, via Pro Football Hall of Fame, that “I scramble because I’m good at it, because I can twist and dodge those big pass rushers better than most guys and we get a lot of touchdowns that way.”

He spent time with the Giants, but was most well known for his seasons with the Vikings.

DE Jared Allen: I’ll go into the Hall of Fame as a Viking

“I’m a Viking, I’ll go in (to the Pro Football Hall of Fame) as a Viking, Jared Allen told KFAN.

Former NFL defensive end Jared Allen was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs, but he said that’s not the team he is representing if he makes it into the Hall of Fame.

“I’m a Viking, I’ll go in (to the Pro Football Hall of Fame) as a Viking,” Allen told KFAN. “The Vikings have my heart.”

Allen played four seasons with the Chiefs. He had 15.5 sacks in his final season with Kansas City, and when he came to the Vikings via trade, he picked up right where he left off.

Allen had 14.5 sacks in his first two seasons with Minnesota. He tallied 22 sacks in 2011 for the team.

From catching touchdown passes to bringing pressure to quarterbacks after losing his helmet, Allen’s NFL career was truly eventful. Here’s to hoping Hall of Fame voters feel the same way. Allen talked with Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press in February about the situation.

“It’s not up for me to decide, but I’m 100 percent satisfied with my career,” Allen told Tomasson. “My career speaks for itself. If I’m blessed to get in, that’s amazing, but that’s the voters’ decision. They’ll compare and they’ll figure out if I was worthy or not.”
