Former Viking Jared Allen named Pro Football HoF semi-finalist

The former Minnesota Viking legend is on the short list to become a hall of famer.

Former Minnesota star defensive end Jared Allen, who played for the Vikings from 2008 to 2013, was one of 25 players who became semifinalists for the 2025 Hall of Fame class.

Allen came to the Vikings from the Kansas City Chiefs where he started his career. He played for the Chiefs from 2004-2007. After he left Minnesota, he played two seasons with the Chicago Bears before playing one final season with the Carolina Panthers.

Allen is considered one of the greatest players ever to wear Purple and Gold. He finished his Minnesota career with 85.5 sacks, which ranks fourth in franchise history. In 2011, he led the entire league with 22 sacks, which is a single-season Vikings franchise record. In that season he finished second in NFL Defensive Player of the Year voting behind Terrell Suggs.

Allen’s 136 career sacks rank 12th in NFL history. During his time in the league, he was named to five Pro Bowls. It seems like a matter of time before Allen gets his gold jacket.

Two former Chiefs are semifinalists for Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2025

Former #Chiefs defensive linemen Jared Allen and Terrell Suggs were named semifinalists for election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The Kansas City Chiefs are one of the most storied franchises in NFL history and have posted countless league records and produced several football legends.

Since the Chiefs joined the NFL in 1960, 25 of Kansas City’s players have been elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, the eighth-most in league history.

Now that number may rise even higher.

On Tuesday, 25 players were named semifinalists for the Hall of Fame Class of 2025, including former Chiefs defensive end Jared Allen and linebacker Terrell Suggs.

Allen was a member of Kansas City’s defensive front from 2004-2007 before making his way to Minnesota, Chicago, and Carolina where he finished his career.

Suggs was a member of the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LIV victory over the San Francisco 49ers in 2019.

Only four to eight players from the list of 25 will be selected to the Hall of Fame. Stay tuned to see if these two defensive greats will be enshrined in Canton next year.

Jared Allen apart of inagural London Games Ring of Honor inductees

One of them, Jared Allen, who hopes to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this year, is getting a different type of honor.

The Minnesota Vikings have had several talented defensive players in their long history. One of them, Jared Allen, who hopes to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this year, is getting a different type of honor.

It was announced on Monday that Jared Allen and Osi Umenyiora will be honored by the league as inaugural inductees of the London Games Ring of Honor.

Allen expressed his excitement, saying, “Being recognized in the first-ever International Ring of Honour ceremony is an exciting moment, and I’m looking forward to being back in the U.K. at the first of three 2024 NFL London Games this season.”

Allen played just one game in London in 2013 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. In that game, he sacked Ben Roethlisberger two and a half times. Those are just some of the 136 sacks he accumulated over the years.

The Vikings and Jets will play in London in Week 5.

16 former Panthers named preliminary nominees for Pro Football Hall of Fame

16 former Panthers, and a current assistant coach, were named amongst the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s 167 preliminary nominees for the 2025 class.

Which Carolina Panthers great could be joining Julius Peppers in Canton, Ohio? Well, 16 of them will at least have a shot.

On Wednesday, the Pro Football Hall of Fame announced 167 preliminary nominees for their 2025 class. Among those listed were 16 former Panthers.

Those players are as follows:

  • QB Jake Delhomme
  • RB Stephen Davis
  • RB/WR Eric Metcalf
  • WR Muhsin Muhammad
  • WR Steve Smith Sr.
  • TE Wesley Walls
  • TE Jeremy Shockey
  • OT Jordan Gross
  • C Ryan Kalil
  • DE Jared Allen
  • LB Jessie Armstead
  • LB Luke Kuechly
  • LB Lee Woodall
  • S Eugene Robinson
  • CB Charles Tillman
  • K John Kasay

Headlining the group is Kuechly, who is now in his first year of eligibility for the honor. The 2013 NFL Defensive Player of the Year and seven-time All-Pro spoke about the possibility of being a first-ballot Hall of Famer back in February.

“I think when you think about the Hall of Fame, it’s obviously awesome,” Kuechly said on an episode of Up & Adams. “It’s the highest honor that you can have as a football player on an individual basis. And you look at the guys that got in there at the linebacker position, the guys I grew up watching—Derrick Brooks, Brian Urlacher, Ray Lewis, obviously Pep got in. Those three guys that I mentioned and then Patrick [Willis]. And all of ’em were a little bit different.”

Former cornerback DeAngelo Hall, who is currently the assistant defensive backs coach for Carolina, was also one of the 167 nominees.

Jared Allen excited for Vikings to ‘get after the quarterback’ in 2024

Now, in 2024, with Allen offering analysis instead of defensive stops, he decided to get vocal about the Vikings’ pass rush.

Former Minnesota Vikings and maybe future Hall of Famer Jared Allen had a knack for getting to the quarterback. During his six seasons with the Vikings, Allen secured 85.5 sacks.

Now, in 2024, with Allen offering analysis instead of defensive stops, he decided to get vocal about the Vikings’ pass rush.

While appearing on The Pat McAfee Show, Allen talked about the team’s ability to pass rush and how it excites him for the upcoming season.

“We’re gonna be young and fast on the defensive side of the ball, and we’ll be able to get after the quarterback.”

Allen expanded upon his praise by saying how much he lacks the job that Kevin O’Connell and his staff have done. The front office has also done a great job of putting together a defensive front that can get after the quarterback, led by free agent signee Jonathan Greenard and first-round draft pick Dallas Turner.

If the preseason was any indicator, the team will be after the quarterback early and often. In their three preseason games without Greenard and Turner, the team brought the quarterback down nine times for a sack.

Imagine the production once they start playing them on Sunday against the Giants.

Calvin Johnson names Vikings fan favorite as best trash talker

The former Lions’ wide receiver named Jared Allen as the best trash talker he can remember.

Calvin Johnson was one of the greatest wide receivers to play the game of football. He played nine years with the Detroit Lions before retiring, and many felt it was way too early. He caught for over 11,000 yards and caught 83 touchdowns. During his playing days with the Lions, Johnson had heard plenty of things while playing on the gridiron — but who was the biggest trash-talker?

Johnson appeared on the St. Brown Podcast, hosted by Amon-Ra St. Brown, and called Vikings legend Jared Allen the best trash talker.

“Jared Allen,” Johnson said. “When we played the Vikings, their D-Line was just ruthless, and Jared Allen was the ring leader. He would talk so dirty to our lineman, I would feel bad for them.”

Allen played with the Vikings from 2008 to 2013 and was one of the best defensive end players. He racked up an amazing 85.5 sacks during his stay with the Vikings, and fans will always cherish what he did for Minnesota after coming over from the Kansas City Chiefs.

Former Viking Jared Allen comments on Justin Jefferson contract talks

Former Viking defensive end Jared Allen was on the Up and Adams show when he was asked about the Justin Jefferson situation.

Former Viking defensive end Jared Allen was on the Up and Adams show when he was asked about the Justin Jefferson situation, he gave a simple answer.

“Back the truck up!”

This week, Allen spoke to Kay Adams about several topics, from whether he would cut his mullet before his Hall of Fame induction to eventually discussing Jefferson’s extension. He thinks the entire process is being over complicated and had a very simple breakdown as to why paying him made sense.

“You give it to him. He changes the game. He opens up your run game, gives you the ability to score at any time, and is a QB’s best friend.”

Allen isn’t wrong on any of these points. They need him immediately, especially considering that the team will be rolling with either J.J. McCarthy or Sam Darnold. In the long term, the pairing of Justin Jefferson with rookie J.J. McCarthy has helped his development and potential tenfold.

Will the Vikings listen to their Hall of Fame defensive end?

Report: Jared Allen not elected to the 2024 Pro Football Hall of Fame class

Allen has been a finalist the last four seasons and has been snubbed each time.

The Minnesota Vikings will have to wait at least one more season to see another former player enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

According to Chris Tomasson of the Denver Gazette, Allen will not be part of the 2024 Hall of Fame class.

The Vikings acquired Allen from the Chiefs in the 2008 offseason by sending a first-round pick and two third-round picks. That move ended up being huge in helping Brad Childress turn around the Vikings and get them to the 2009 NFC Championship Game. During six seasons in Minnesota, Allen amassed 88.5 sacks, including a 2011 season where he had 22 sacks, just 0.5 from tying Michael Strahan’s record.

In his career, Allen played in 187 games, accumulated 136 sacks and forced 32 fumbles. He would have become the 16th member of the Vikings to earn enshrinement in the Hall of Fame and the 10th lineman to earn honors.

Allen will enter the 2025 voting as a four-time finalist.
