Analyzing the Ravens’ floor and ceiling for the 2024 season

ESPN’s Jamison Hensley projects that the Ravens could win 13 games, but potentially lose 9 games with analsis of their season

The Baltimore Ravens are loaded at several key positions. With the same head coach in place and a change at the defensive coordinator spot, there won’t be many guaranteed roster spots available. A handful of players have had excellent off-season workouts. After GM Eric DeCosta added Derrick Henry, the Ravens are among the Super Bowl favorites in the AFC. However, all NFL teams are a terrible injury or sullied chemistry away from disaster. So, what will the Baltimore Ravens look like in 2024?  ESPN’s Jamison Hensley did a quick dive into the machinations that are most likely to tilt this team in one direction.

The ceiling: 13-4

Biggest X factor: Offensive line

The floor (that doesn’t include a long-term injury at quarterback): 8-9

The Ravens decided to go younger on the offensive line, letting guards Kevin Zeitler and John Simpson sign elsewhere and trading right tackle Morgan Moses to the New York Jets. The three new up-front starters — Baltimore has yet to officially name them — will have a major impact, especially with their pass protection. When Lamar Jackson has been sacked four or more times in his career, Baltimore is 8-9 (.470). When Jackson is sacked three times or fewer, the Ravens are 50-10 (.833). — Jamison Hensley
Roger Rosengarten is the second-round pick, but Patrick Mekari is listed as the first-team right tackle heading into the second preseason contest against the Falcons on Saturday. Ronsengarten has all the tools, but he must earn his snaps. Daniel Faalele is the right guard after switching positions, and he’s listed as the starter ahead of veteran Ben Cleveland. Faalele is one of the biggest right guards in the NFL but he must sustain his momentum.

Ravens RB J.K. Dobbins reportedly out for Week 1 vs. Jets

Ravens RB J.K. Dobbins is reportedly out for the team’s Week 1 matchup with the New York Jets

The Baltimore Ravens saw running back go down for the entirety of the 2021 season during the team’s final preseason game against the Washington Commanders. Dobbins has worked his way back from his injury, but reportedly isn’t quite ready enough to play in Week 1 against the New York Jets.

It’s been reported by multiple outlets that Dobbins won’t suit up on Sunday, which would likely lead to a running back room of Kenyan Drake, Mike Davis and Justice Hill. The team will also be without running back Gus Edwards, who was placed on the reserve/PUP list after going down for the year as well in 2021.

Once Dobbins returns, it’s likely the team will ease him back into action as he gets back to playing. That way, he can ease his way back from his severe knee injury just in case.  If Dobbins can play in a couple of weeks, that would make the Ravens’ running back depth even stronger.

Multiple Ravens players miss practice on Friday

Multiple Ravens players missed training camp practice on Friday

The Baltimore Ravens are less than a week away before their first preseason game, where they’ll host the Tennessee Titans at M&T Bank Stadium. The team has been hard at work practicing during 2022 training camp, but on Friday they had multiple players miss practice. There were a few big names headlining the list, including multiple wide receivers.

Kyle Barber of Baltimore Beatdown put out an injury report for Friday’s session, and wide receivers Rashod Bateman and Devin Duvernay weren’t on the field. Bateman missed his first practice of training camp, while Duvernay remained absent for the fifth-straight day.

Center Tyler Linderbaum was among those not practicing as well. Head coach John Harbaugh told the media on Thursday that Linderbaum underwent an x-ray and that indications point to it not being a serious injury.

Defensive back Brandon Stephens missed his fourth-consecutive practice, while tight end Charlie Kolar continues to miss time after undergoing sports hernia surgery. Outside linebacker Vince Biegel tore his achilles in practice on Thursday, which marked his third season-ending injury in three years.

Ravens S Kyle Hamilton leaves training camp practice early on Wednesday

Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton left training camp practice early on Wednesday

The Baltimore Ravens have held training camp practices over the last week as the start of preseason quickly approaches. Training camp sessions are held during some of the hottest times of the year, which can lead to exhaustion and fatigue for those who are practicing. Wednesday’s temperature in Baltimore reached over 90 degrees, with the heat index feeling much hotter.

During team drills, Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton collided with tight end Isaiah Likely. Following the collision, Hamilton returned to the field for one play, but pulled up and left the field, heading inside with the team’s training staff.

After practice, Jamison Hensley of ESPN reported that the safety is dealing with cramping, which can be expected on hot days like it was on Wednesday.

Hamilton wasn’t the only player who ended up dealing with something during practice.

The Ravens will have another training camp session on Thursday in which the temperature in Baltimore is expected to reach around 95 degrees.
