2 Texas A&M Volleyball players land on the AVCA All-American team

Two Texas A&M Volleyball players earn All-American recognition from the AVCA Committee

After a hard-fought Sweet 16 loss to Wisconsin, the Texas A&M Volleyball team finished ranked No. 16 in the nation. Coach Jamie Morrison has done an outstanding job developing this team, quickly turning A&M into an attractive place to play volleyball.

The talent will continue to trickle into Aggieland to join the proven roster to make a deeper run in next year’s NCAA Tournament. On December 18, the American Volleyball Coaches Association committee announced that Aggies Logan Lednicky and Ifenna Cos-Okpalla were named to the AVCA All-American Teams. Juniors Lednicky was named to the 2nd team, and Cos-Okpalla was named an Honorable Mention.

Join us in congratulating these two dynamic athletes on their accomplishments after a great 2024 season, and we are eager to watch them next year.

Texas A&M volleyball falls in the final set vs. Wiconsin in the Sweet 16

The Aggies dropped a hard-fought game to Wisconsin ending their season in the regional semifinal

On Friday night, Texas A&M (21-7) battled down to the wire against Wisconsin (23-6) but fell just short, losing 3-2 in the Regional Semifinals.

It was a back-and-forth battle with Texas A&M looking for revenge and advancing to the Elite Eight. Before tonight, the Badgers swept A&M, not allowing them to win a single set during the regular season, but A&M came out ready to play, narrowly losing the first set 25-21 due to an error-free round Wisconsin.

In the middle set, they swapped wins, with the Badgers taking a 2-1 lead into the fourth set in a best-of-five series. A&M stayed focused and extended the game for a final set.

They could have started better, falling by four points in the middle of the set before clawing their way back to within a point. Unfortunately, down 13-14, the Badgers scored the final point, knocking the Aggies out of the NCAA Tournament.

Coach Jamie Morrison has been one of the more underrated hires of the last few years and took a 13-win team to a 21-win team with a Sweet Sixteen berth. He needs a few more pieces to make a deeper run next year, but this team deserves all the praise for exceeding expectations.

Max Wright & Lauren Hogan named to the 2023 SEC community Service Team

Max Wright & Lauren Hogan named to the SEC Community Service Team

The SEC is announcing their Community Services teams this week and named two Aggies to their respective teams. Senior tight end Max Wright from the football team and Senior defensive specialist Lauren Hogan from the Volleyball team were both named due to their contributions to the community.

Each year, the SEC honors student-athletes across all 21 league-sponsors sports and recognizes the work they have been doing in the community.

Max Wright, Senior, Tight End, Texas A&M

Wright has been a selfless servant volunteering his time and efforts in making a lasting impact to the Brazos Valley community. He has been active with numerous organizations, including Twin City Mission in Bryan where he served food and cleaned up around the facility. Wright has also volunteered with The Big Event, the largest one-day student service project in the nation every spring helping members of the community with upkeep and care for the homes. The graduate student has contributed his service globally in 2019 on a mission trip when he traveled to Haiti where he partnered with Mission of Hope and local churches to help with construction projects. In 2022, Wright received the Aggie Heart Award, presented to a senior who displays the intangibles such as effort, desire, determination, competitiveness, accountability, leadership and courage.

Lauren Hogan, Senior, Libero/Defensive Specialist, Texas A&M

Hogan helps with Aggies Can, which is the largest student-athlete volunteer-driven canned food drive in the nation. The collections help those within the Brazos Valley community. A captain of the Texas A&M volleyball team, she is also a contributor to Twin City Missions homeless shelter, helping those in need in the local area. Her service also spanned to the international stage as she dedicated a great deal of service to the Texas A&M Athletics Mission of Hope trip, where she and fellow student-athletes travelled to the Dominican Republic and Haiti. The trip involved two core components: strategic ministry time and community advancement projects.

Texas A&M Volleyball is off to a strong start under Coach Jamie Morrison

The Aggies close out non-conference play strong and will host Mississippi State Wednesday night.

Texas A&M (8-2,0-0 SEC) swept Liberty (7-4,0-0 CUSA) on Friday to close out non-conference play with a strong finish. The Aggies were dominant from start to finish with 38 kills and 11 blocks.

Coach Morrison speaks on the start of the season leading into league play.

“Overall, I’m really happy with the match and with non-conference as a whole. 8-2 is hard to do and we did it against some good teams. We played some good volleyball throughout, and we need to carry that with us moving forward.”
