LSU wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase will be a first-round draft pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. There is little question about that. But how high will Chase be drafted? According to the USA TODAY mock draft, not only will Chase be drafted within the first three picks, but he will also be the first wide receiver taken off the big board.
According to the mock draft, Chase will be taken with the third overall pick by the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins received the first-round pick of the Houston Texans in a trade from 2019. In Miami, Chase would become the go-to target for former Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who was taken in the first round by the Dolphins in the 2020 draft.
Per the USA TODAY mock draft;
Equipping Tagovailoa with Chase, who torched elite opposition en route to multiple Southeastern Conference records last year before opting out in 2020, might stand as the savviest way to return the quarterback to a more freewheeling form.
Last year, LSU had an SEC-record five first-round draft picks taken in the 2020 draft following its national championship run. However, Chase is the only Tigers player projected to be selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft according to the mock draft.
Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence is projected to be the first player drafted overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Chase is projected to be drafted one pick ahead of Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields (Atlanta Falcons) and three picks before 2020 Heisman Trophy-winning wide receiver DeVonta Smith, of Alabama (Philadelphia Eagles).
The 2021 NFL Draft is scheduled to be held April 29 through May 1 in Cleveland, Ohio.
