Steelers release three players

The Steelers release three players on Sunday to meet the 90-man roster limit.

The Steelers announced on Sunday that they have released three players: Running back Darrin Hall, wide receiver Jamal Custis, and safety Tray Matthews.

After signing 10 undrafted free agents on Saturday, the Steelers were at 93 on the roster. Cutting Hall, Custis, and Matthews brings their roster to the 90-man limit — for now.

Who will be next roster casualties as free agency rolls along?

Steelers add wide receiver to practice squad

Pittsburgh replaces Amara Darboh on the practice squad.

On Tuesday the Pittsburgh Steelers released wide receiver Tevin Jones. To fill his spot on the 53-man roster, Pittsburgh promoted WR Amara Darboh from the practice squad. Next in line was to fill that spot and the Steelers did so on Wednesday with the addition of wide receiver Jamal Custis. Custis was last on the Kansas City Chiefs roster.

Custis is an interesting player because he has all the physical tools to be a productive NFL receiver. He dealt with some injuries and terrible quarterback play at Syracuse. Pittsburgh has been making due with whichever wide receivers they can scramble together so don’t be shocked if Custis gets a shot before the season is over.
