Jamahal Hill warns Alex Pereira before UFC 303: ‘You lose, I see you real soon’

Jamahal Hill is eager to run things back with Alex Pereira – whether it’s for the UFC light heavyweight title or not.

[autotag]Jamahal Hill[/autotag] is eager to run things back with UFC light heavyweight champion [autotag]Alex Pereira[/autotag] – whether it’s for the title or not.

Hill (12-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) was knocked out by Pereira (10-2 MMA, 7-1 UFC) in April at UFC 300. He took umbrage with the fight-ending sequence, in which referee Herb Dean tried to pause the action after Hill struck Pereira with an accidental low blow. Pereira waved off Dean and landed the knockout blow just moments afterward.

Hill was lambasted for continuously expressing his discontent with the abrupt ending but wanted to address it one final time.

“I’m literally only saying this to say what happened, to point out from my point of view what happened and what it is,” Hill said on his YouTube channel. “The fact of this, ‘Oh, he can’t accept the loss, he needs to cope.’ The hardest thing that I ever had to eat in this game was whenever I lost my ‘0’ to Paul Craig.

“When I was sitting there and I was locked up in the submission and I realized I could not use my arm, and I’m like, ‘Oh sh*t, I’m about to lose.’ I literally remember that feeling. I remember it very vividly, and that was a very, very hard thing for me. I went out and partied with this man that night. I enjoyed life after that with that individual. Me taking a loss is not a problem for me at all. I’m simply saying what happened.”

Pereira defends his light heavyweight title in a rematch against Jiri Prochazka (30-4-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) in Saturday’s UFC 303 (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+) headliner at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Before Pereira vs. Prochazka 2 was added, Hill was scheduled to face Carlos Ulberg in the UFC 303 co-main event, but the former champion withdrew due to a knee injury.

If Pereira loses his title to Prochazka, Hill wants his rematch with “Poatan.”

“Alex has got his own task ahead of him,” Hill said. “This weekend, he’s fighting Jiri Prochazka, defending the title. Best of luck to you in this rematch with Jiri because, if you lose, I don’t give a f*ck if they offer me a title shot. It’s me and you. You win, I’m going to go starch the next guy, and I’ll see you soon. You lose, I see you real soon.”

Volkan Oezdemir explains callouts of Jan Blachowicz, Jamahal Hill after UFC on ABC 6 knockout

Volkan Oezdemir has two top contenders in mind after his brutal knockout win at UFC on ABC 6.

[autotag]Volkan Oezdemir[/autotag] has two top contenders in mind after his brutal knockout win at UFC on ABC 6.

Oezdemir (20-7 MMA, 8-6 UFC) scored a first-round knockout of Johnny Walker (21-9 MMA, 7-6 UFC) in Saturday’s main card opener at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. “No Time” has now won three of his past four fights.

The former title challenger called out [autotag]Jamahal Hill[/autotag] (12-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) and [autotag]Jan Blachowicz[/autotag] (29-10-1 MMA, 12-7-1 UFC) in his post-fight octagon interview.

“To just climb the ranks,” Oezdemir explained to reporters at the UFC on ABC 6 post-fight press conference. “Blachowicz is going to be a fight for the crown of Europe. It’s going to be the top fight for the European fighters, so that’s a fight I want to do. And Jamahal Hill, I want that fight, as well. My goal is to climb the ranks, take over the division. I’m back. ‘No Time’ is back. This is my time now, and I’m here to showcase this.”

With Hill currently healing from a knee injury and Blachowicz from shoulder surgery, Oezdemir isn’t sure if he’ll be able to get those fights anytime soon – especially that he’s targeting a September return in Paris.

“Both are injured right now, so I don’t know really what’s going to happen with this,” Oezdemir said. “I know I want to have a quick turnaround because I’m eyeing Paris. I want to fight in France again. France is also my home crowd, so I would love to be there again end of September.

“I’m going to have my wedding now in three weeks, so, guys, I’m waiting for the 50K. I’m waiting for the 50K so I can have a great, great wedding. I’ll have a big party and enjoy that a little bit before turning around for the fight in Paris.”

Eugene Bareman: Anthony Smith could be ‘a harder fight’ for Carlos Ulberg at UFC 303 than Jamahal Hill

Eugene Bareman is not taking Anthony Smith as a lighter challenge for Carlos Ulberg.

Eugene Bareman is not taking [autotag]Anthony Smith[/autotag] as a lighter challenge for [autotag]Carlos Ulberg[/autotag].

Ulberg (9-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) was scheduled to face former light heavyweight champion [autotag]Jamahal Hill[/autotag] June 29 at UFC 303, but Hill was forced out due a knee injury. Ulberg will now meet Smith (38-19 MMA, 13-9 UFC) on the main card at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Smith is ranked several spots below Hill, but the City Kickboxing head coach thinks he could end up presenting a sterner test for Ulberg.

“(He’s) slightly below, but the top 15, the nature of the top 15 is what separates the No. 2, No. 4 and No. 15 is nothing,” Bareman told Combat TV. “No. 15 could easily beat No. 4 or No. 12 could beat No. 2 – like nothing separates these guys. There is a number next to these guys’ name, but it has nothing to do with the quality of the opponent. They’re all just the best guys in the world.

“So there’s many people that would argue Carlos is jumping into an even harder fight now with Anthony Smith. A little bit of a shame that he’s not fighting a guy that’s ranked above him, and also a bit of a shame that he’s not fighting on the Conor McGregor undercard. I think that brings a lot of value to young fighters coming up.”

Regardless of opponent change, Ulberg will be facing his most notable name to date in Smith. Ulberg is on a six-fight winning streak, with five of his wins coming by finish.

  • The UFC 303 and [autotag]Conor McGregor[/autotag] saga has finally come to an end. Unfortunately, the Irish superstar has been ruled out of his return at UFC 303 on June 29 due to injury. This is devastating news for McGregor, but what exactly does this mean for his career? Where does this leave his opponent [autotag]Michael Chandler[/autotag]? We break it all down.
  • McGregor’s injury did not affect Chandler alone. This forced the UFC to strengthen the International Fight Week event by adding new bouts, including a light heavyweight title fight between [autotag]Alex Pereira[/autotag] and [autotag]Jiri Prochazka[/autotag] for the main event, and a pivotal featherweight bout between [autotag]Brian Ortega[/autotag] and [autotag]Diego Lopes[/autotag] in the co-main. We chat about the latest updates for UFC 303.
  • This past Saturday, young, Japanese rising contender [autotag]Tatsuro Taira[/autotag] got past his toughest test – former UFC title challenger [autotag]Alex Perez[/autotag]. In a competitive bout, Perez suffered a knee injury while Taira had his back, thus losing by TKO. What’s Taira’s potential? Where does he go next? We discuss.
  • The UFC’s debut event in Saudi Arabia this Saturday has a new main event. [autotag]Khamzat Chimaev[/autotag] pulled out due to illness, and now [autotag]Robert Whittaker[/autotag] will take on undefeated [autotag]Ikram Aliskerov[/autotag]. Jamahal Hill reveals list of injuries behind UFC 303 withdrawal, vows to ‘be back soon’

Jamahal Hill’s withdrawal from the once-planned UFC 303 co-main event vs. Carlos Ulberg was more than warranted.

[autotag]Jamahal Hill[/autotag]’s withdrawal from the once-planned UFC 303 co-main event vs. Carlos Ulberg was more than warranted.

Former light heavyweight champion Hill (12-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) stepped out of the scheduled matchup with Ulberg (9-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) on the June 29 in Las Vegas as part of a massive overhaul to the lineup that served as a chain reaction after Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler was canceled.

Hill, who was looking to make a quick turnaround from his UFC 300 main event loss to Alex Pereira, which came on the heels of a fast comeback from a ruptured Achilles, revealed a bevy injuries led to him stepping aside.

According to Hill, he sustained two meniscus tears in one of his knees, a sprained ACL, and a Baker’s Cyst that required significant drainage. He issued a statement sharing the details Friday on social media (via Instagram):

2 tears in my meniscus, sprained my ACL a Baker Cyst that leaked fluid in the back of my knee and a infusion in some joints!!! There were actually 3 of these. This is only making me hungrier. Be back soon!!!

Despite the difficult setback, Hill, 33, appeared to maintain high spirts about his fighting future.

Alex Pereira on Jamahal Hill’s late reaction to UFC 300 celebration: ‘Maybe he just woke up from the knockout’

Alex Pereira is confused why Jamahal Hill took this long to address his knockout loss at UFC 300.

[autotag]Alex Pereira[/autotag] is confused why [autotag]Jamahal Hill[/autotag] took this long to address his knockout loss at UFC 300.

Hill (12-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) took umbrage with light heavyweight champion Pereira’s (10-2 MMA, 7-1 UFC) celebration after he was knocked out by him in Round 1 of their title fight in April.

“Sweet Dreams” said he respected Pereira’s mentor Glover Teixeira after he battered him to claim the vacant light heavyweight title at UFC 283, so he expected the same from Pereira. “Poatan” took a shot at Hill for reacting nearly two months later.

“To be honest, I don’t get why he’s doing this so late,” Pereira told Fox Sports Australia through an interpreter. “It’s been almost two months. People usually do that right away, but maybe he just woke up from the knockout.”

Pereira said, “You reap what you sow,” in response to Hill’s complaints. He explained that he didn’t like Hill’s approach in the lead-up to their fight.

“It’s kind of like you harvest what you seed,” Pereira said. “During Glover’s fight, he was respectful. Glover, he got respect at the end. With us, he was a bit more disrespectful – so he got what he put on.”

Pereira is targeting a rematch with Jiri Prochazka, whom he knocked out to claim the vacant 205-pound title at UFC 295. Meanwhile, Hill will look to rebound when he faces streaking contender Carlos Ulberg at UFC 303 June 29 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Jamahal Hill takes umbrage with Alex Pereira’s celebration after UFC 300 ‘weak sh*t’ knockout

Alex Pereira’s post-fight celebration at UFC 300 isn’t sitting well with Jamahal Hill.

[autotag]Alex Pereira[/autotag]’s post-fight celebration at UFC 300 isn’t sitting well with [autotag]Jamahal Hill[/autotag].

UFC light heavyweight champion Pereira (10-2 MMA, 7-1 UFC) knocked out Hill in the first round to retain his title in April. “Poatan” delivered the “Khaby Lame” celebration as he stood over Hill (12-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC), which angered the former champion.

Nearly two months later, Hill took to Instagram to address the abrupt fight-ending sequence in which referee Herb Dean tried to pause the action after Hill struck Pereira with an inadvertent low blow. Pereira waved off Dean and proceeded to knock out Hill right after.

“Now I haven’t really spoke on this but I went to Brazil and DOGG WALKED your guy in one of the most one sided ass whooping in championship history and after showed nothing but respect and paid homage!! I’ve never celebrated over an opponent I beat and even called out my fans for disrespecting Johnny Walker after I slept him!! But because I showed competitive fire and was excited to be back after an injury that could of ended my career y’all think this is was funny or cool!! @alexpoatanpereira you really setup a punch you couldn’t get to without a weird confusing moment and did some weak sh*t but it ok because you will fight me again and my eyes won’t leave you until your as stiff as Izzy left you in Miami!!!”

Pereira is currently focused on another rematch he foresees next, expecting to run things back with Jiri Prochazka, whom he knocked out to claim the vacant 205-pound title at UFC 295.

As for Hill, “Sweet Dreams” will look to rebound when he faces streaking contender Carlos Ulberg on June 29 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Carlos Ulberg explains motivation for short-notice Jamahal Hill opportunity at UFC 303

Carlos Ulberg knows how high the stakes are at UFC 303.

[autotag]Carlos Ulberg[/autotag] knows how high the stakes are at UFC 303.

With Khalil Rountree forced out of his June 29 co-main event vs. [autotag]Jamahal Hill[/autotag](12-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas due to a failed drug test, Ulberg (9-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) accepted to step in on short notice.

The City Kickboxing standout is on a six-fight winning streak, but will be facing a big leap up in competition when he takes on former UFC light heavyweight champion Hill.

“We’re going up against Hill. I think he’s No. 3 at the moment, so that’s some really good news that puts us in a really good spot – and I’m not going to pass that opportunity,” Ulberg said in an interview with ENGAGE.

Hill’s fight with Rountree originally was slated as the co-headliner. While the bout order isn’t finalized yet, Ulberg is just excited to compete on the same card as the returning Conor McGregor, who headlines UFC 303 against Michael Chandler.

“McGregor is obviously the biggest star to rise out of the UFC, and even sporting alone,” Ulberg said. “Everybody that you talk to, they all know McGregor – even if they’re not MMA fans. I spoke to someone today, and they didn’t know about MMA, but they knew who McGregor was – which was amazing.

“He is definitely a big star, and to fight under that undercard would be amazing. If we can get the co-main event, then that’d be even more spectacular. He goes in with confidence, and that’s something that I like to lead into my fights. When I jump in that cage, it’s just me, my opponent and the preparation that I’ve had prior.”
