Five-star LB Jamonta Waller locks in Auburn visit

Waller is being recruited by Auburn to join the JACK linebacker unit.

One of the top needs for the 2024 class is depth at the JACK linebacker spot, and head coach [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] is in the beginning stages of filling that void by welcoming a top prospect to campus this summer.

Jamonta Waller, a five-star linebacker from Picayune Memorial High School in Mississippi, tells Christian Clemente of Auburn Undercover that he will be on campus during the weekend of June 2-4 ($). According to 247Sports, Auburn will be his first of three official visits during the month of June, as he will also visit Penn State and Florida.

Auburn extended an offer to Waller on Jan. 20 of this year, and he took an unofficial visit to campus on March 24. Since March, Waller has also paid visits to Florida State, Texas A&M, Tennessee, and LSU.

Freeze looks to build depth at an already low spot, as the Tigers only have four players to occupy the JACK spot: [autotag]Jalen McLeod[/autotag], [autotag]Elijah McAllister[/autotag], [autotag]Keldric Faulk[/autotag], and [autotag]Brenton Williams[/autotag]. Waller’s 11th-grade stats show that he would be a great addition to the unit as he made 106 stops with 24 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks.

Both 247Sports and On3 have Ole Miss as the team to beat for Waller, however, he has not scheduled an official visit to Ole Miss, nor has he visited unofficially according to his timeline on 247Sports. On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine shows Auburn as the No. 2 team, followed by Penn State and Florida.

Auburn becomes team to watch for Montana Lemonious-Craig’s next destination

Auburn is making a strong run to land the talented receiver formerly of Colorado.

Auburn has made a splash in the transfer portal this week.

The week started with former Appalachian State linebacker [autotag]Jalen McLeod[/autotag] signing with the Tigers and ended with the signing of two talented offensive skill players, Michigan State QB [autotag]Payton Thorne[/autotag] and Ohio State WR [autotag]Caleb Burton[/autotag].

When the hand is good, sometimes it pays to keep playing. That is what Auburn head coach [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] is looking to do with former Colorado wide receiver [autotag]Montana Lemonious-Craig[/autotag], who Auburn has recently received a prediction to land.

On3’s Jeffrey Lee submitted a prediction for Auburn to sign Lemonious-Craig ($) this week after he paid a visit to the Plains during the weekend of April 29.

Lemonious-Craig does not have the resume of a seasoned veteran, as he caught just 34 passes for 497 yards and five touchdowns in three seasons at Colorado, but the potential to be a big-time receiver is there. He caught the attention of the college football world during Colorado’s spring game last month by catching two touchdown passes from Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

The possible addition of Lemonious-Craig would add to an already revamped receiver room, as Auburn has already signed [autotag]Rivaldo Fairweather[/autotag], [autotag]Nick Mardner[/autotag], and Caleb Burton from the transfer portal. Lemonious-Craig provides a big frame at 6-2, 190 pounds, and would add speed to the mix at receiver.

Auburn lands transfer outside linebacker Jalen McLeod

He made 7.5 tackles for loss and 6.0 sacks last season for App State.

Auburn has landed its first transfer of the spring and it comes at a critical position.

App State transfer [autotag]Jalen McLeod[/autotag] announced his commitment to the Tigers on Tuesday. He will have two seasons of eligibility and will play the Jack linebacker position for Auburn.

A three-year contributor, he played in 30 games for the Mountaineers, making 75 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, 9.0 sacks, and forcing three fumbles.

The 6-foot-1 and 230-pounder shined brightest in App State’s win over Texas A&M last season. He finished with 2.0 sacks and two forced fumbles.

His commitment helps fill out the jack linebacker spot which does not have a scholarship player from last year’s team after Dylan Brooks entered the transfer portal.

He joins Vanderbilt transfer Elijah McAllister and true freshmen Keldric Faulk and Brenton Williams in the room with the Tigers still working to add another transfer from the portal. One target is former JMU edge rusher Isaac Ukwu, who visited this past weekend.

Auburn becomes favorite to sign Appalachian State LB Jalen McLeod

Jalen McLeod would be a valuable addition to the EDGE position should he commit.

Appalachian State outside linebacker transfer [autotag]Jalen McLeod[/autotag] supposedly enjoyed his recent visit to Auburn last weekend. So much so, that he is projected to sign with the Tigers according to a Crystal Ball projection by Christian Clemente of Auburn Undercover.

McLeod has been a big part of the Mountaineers’ defense since joining the program in 2020. In 2022 he recorded 40 tackles, six sacks, and one fumble recovery, all career highs.

Pro Football Focus listed McLeod as third-team All-Sun Belt last season and the Sun Belt Conference named him as an honorable mention for the same thing.

The Washington, D.C. native was listed as a three-star recruit with a 0.8336 composite rating according to 247Sports. McLeod was the No. 1640 ranked player and the No. 13 ranked player in Washington, D.C. in the class of 2020.

Auburn is looking for more depth at the jack linebacker spot and McLeod, being listed as 6-foot-1 and 230 pounds, would be a good option to beef up the position. James Madison transfer [autotag]Issac Ukwu[/autotag] also visited campus last weekend. Following the departure of [autotag]Dylan Brooks[/autotag] to the transfer portal, the position could use depth.
