AEW Dynamite results: The Forbidden Door gets kicked wide open in D.C.

Get live AEW Dynamite results from D.C., featuring MJF vs. Adam Cole and more pieces of Forbidden Door falling into place.

Sometimes you can just feel when wrestling companies want to put their best foot forward, and tonight is one of those nights as AEW Dynamite airs from the Capital One Arena in Washington D.C.

Not that Tony Khan isn’t trying to hit every show out of the park, mind you. But with the debut of AEW: Collision this Saturday, followed quickly by Forbidden Door next week, it behooves this particular episode to have that “can’t miss” feeling about it.

Whether it does or not is in the eye of the beholder, but the card looks compelling from here. MJF and Adam Cole will battle in a world title eliminator, and while “beat the champ to get a shot at the champ” matches are sometimes silly, this one appears very legit.

The Blackpool Combat Club and The Elite may literally fight forever at this point, which will be the case again tonight as they meet in trios action. AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm defends her title against Skye Blue, and Wardlow does the same with his TNT Championship against Jake Hager, and a big eight-man tag team match sees the Mogul Embassy go up against a fan favorite group made up of Darby Allin, Sting, Keith Lee and Orange Cassidy.

Plus Sammy Guevara will be on Dynamite for the first time since his unsuccessful world title bid at Double or Nothing. Add it all up and it has the makings of a very fun two hours, and that’s not even counting the fact that perhaps a NJPW talent or two will drop by.

AEW Dynamite results from Washington D.C.:

  • Adam Cole vs. MJF goes to a 30-minute time limit draw after MJF’s two attempts to cheat both backfire, and Cole has him beaten with the Panama Sunrise only to have the bell ring with the count at two; Cole asks MJF for five more minutes, but the champ takes his title belt and leaves

  • A video package promotes the return of CM Punk at AEW: Collision

  • Sammy Guevara talks to Renee Paquette about the highs and lows of his last few weeks and says he has to make some personal changes; Darby Allin arrives and suggests Guevara needs to leave the Jericho Appreciation Society to reach the next level … which in turn brings Chris Jericho to the ring, demanding an apology; that in turn brings out Sting, who has a brief, tense staredown with Jericho amid suggestions they might all be in a tag team match next week

  • IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Sanada issues an open challenge for his title at Forbidden Door and says he’s anxious to see who from AEW will step up and accept it

  • Darby Allin, Sting, Keith Lee and Orange Cassidy def. Mogul Embassy by pinfall when Sting pins Brian Cage
  • Paquette asks The Gunns about their relationship with Bullet Club Gold, but they play dumb and would rather talk about their challenge to The Hardys for next week … and then they diss Renee’s hair for some reason

  • Wardlow def. Jake Hager by pinfall to retain the AEW TNT Championship, with Brock Anderson helping fend off outside assistance for Hager by the JAS; afterward, Christian Cage and Luchasaurus appear on the screen to accept Wardlow’s challenge on Collision and show that they’ve beaten up Arn Anderson
  • Hiroshi Tanahashi makes a challenge to MJF for Forbidden Door, and Paquette gives the bad news to the AEW world champ backstage and he says he’s not doing it

  • Paquette is talking to Orange Cassidy about what the future holds when Zack Sabre Jr. says it should be the two of them facing off for the AEW International Championship at Forbidden Door; Daniel Garcia arrives as well, so Cassidy says he and Katsuyori Shibata will face ZSJ and Garcia next week on Dynamite

  • Toni Storm def. Skye Blue by submission to retain the AEW Women’s World Championship, with help from the other Outcasts, of course; Willow Nightingale sprints down to prevent a post-match beating
  • “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry tells the very busy Paquette he’s accepting Sanada’s title challenge for Forbidden Door and asks Hook to have his back; Hook looks like he accepts with a fist bump

  • A video package promotes the main event for the debut episode of AEW: Collision on Saturday night
  • The Elite (Hangman Adam Page and Young Bucks) def. Blackpool Combat Club (Claudio Castagnoli, Jon Moxley and Wheeler Yuta) by pinfall as Page pins Yuta, leaving Bryan Danielson on commentary going “you’ve got to be kidding me”
  • After the bell, the BCC attacks The Elite, but Eddie Kingston comes rushing down and goes right after Castagnoli, eventually clearing him from the ring; Kingston and Moxley have a brief showdown and Eddie tries to play peacemaker, but Konosuke Takeshita runs down and attacks Kingston from behind before Kenny Omega joins them and battles Takeshita … but gets assaulted in turn by Will Ospreay, who hits the Stormbreaker on Omega to end the show

AEW Dynamite preview 06/13/23: Preparing for a Collision

AEW Dynamite hits D.C. tonight with two title matches, a title eliminator and much more ahead of the AEW: Collision debut this weekend.

With the debut of AEW Dynamite just days away, you didn’t think the company was going to just phone it in for its existing two-hour show, AEW Dynamite, right? Perish the thought.

The card for tonight in Washington D.C. is, in fact, pretty loaded. It starts with MJF taking on Adam Cole; not for the AEW World Championship itself, but in a title eliminator agreed upon after the two men exchanged pointed insults last week. That means if Cole wins, he gets a shot at the BBB, which is something MJF would undoubtedly prefer to avoid.

Two other titles will be on the line in D.C. Skye Blue won her opportunity to challenge Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s World Championship, but considering how the other Outcasts are always there to back Storm, she may come to regret that unless she has backup of her own. TNT Champion Wardlow, on the other hand, made it clear he’s not done with Christian Cage and Luchasaurus, but his business on this particular evening is with Jake Hager (and his hat), who he obviously can’t afford to take lightly.

And the feud between the Blackpool Combat Club and The Elite rages on, this time in trios form. Claudio Castagnoli, Jon Moxley and Wheeler Yuta will go up against Hangman Adam Page and the Young Bucks — you can also call them the Hung Bucks, collectively — in a match that’s sure to be entertaining.

AEW is also promoting that Sammy Guevara will be at Dynamite tonight for the first time since losing his chance at MJF’s world championship. No word on what he’ll be up to, but a thought: He’d be great when matched up against a high flyer from NJPW at Forbidden Door, which is also less than two weeks away.

That’s a lot to cram into two hours (there’s also an eight-man tag we didn’t even get to) but we have faith it’s all going to come together. Check it out beginning at 8 p.m. ET on TBS, or hop back here to Wrestling Junkie as we’ll have live results and commentary.

Opening Bell: Survivor Series WarGames beckons, AEW finds a contender for MJF

Get set for the week in WWE and AEW with Opening Bell: quick previews of Raw, SmackDown, Dynamite and Rampage.

Welcome to the Opening Bell, where we round up what’s been announced for WWE (Raw and SmackDown) and AEW (Dynamite and Rampage) programming for the week we’ve just begun.

WWE Raw preview – Monday, November 21, MVP Arena, Albany, NY

Before you dig into your turkey and stuffing or other foods of choice this week, there’s business to take care of on Raw. The women’s WarGames teams are set for Survivor Series, but which side will have the advantage is up for grabs on Monday in Albany.

To settle that important question, Asuka will take on Rhea Ripley. The winner will get a numerical advantage every few minutes during WarGames, so both Team Bianca Belair and Team Damage CTRL will be watching anxiously (and perhaps even intervening) to see who comes out on top.

And that’s all WWE has officially revealed for this week’s show so far. Considering Survivor Series WarGames only has four matches announced and the women’s match still has one participant yet to be revealed, smart money suggests we’ll get some answers on Monday night.

AEW Dynamite preview – Wednesday, November 23, Wintrust Arena, Chicago

AEW is headed back to one of its homes away from home, the Windy City, for the pre-Thanksgiving episode of Dynamite. The biggest thing on the card is determining a No. 1 contender for MJF, who you may have heard is now the AEW World Champion following Full Gear. Ethan Page and Ricky Starks will wrestle for that honor in the final of a tournament that’s been going for a few weeks.

[lawrence-related id=16647]

But the show is pretty loaded beyond that. The Elite and Death Triangle tore it down at Full Gear, where it was revealed they’re going to do it again … and again and again, in a best-of-7 series for the AEW World Trios Championship. Match two takes place Wednesday on Dynamite.

Chris Jericho is still The Ocho, but he’ll get a formidable challenge for his ROH World Championship from Tomohiro Ishii of NJPW. And Orange Cassidy, who’s been putting his All-Atlantic Championship on the line regularly, will face perhaps his physically biggest test as champ in the form of Jake Hager (and his purple bucket hat).

A good night of wrestling before turkey? It sounds like it.

AEW Rampage preview – Friday, November 25, Wintrust Arena, Chicago (recorded on November 23)

We still don’t know much about what AEW has planned for Rampage this holiday week, but we do know one thing: It’s not going to be on at 10 p.m. ET like usual.

Nope, Rampage is moving earlier, much earlier, for this pre-taped show from the Chi. It will air at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT on TNT. So … just be thankful for some afternoon wrestling, we suppose.

WWE SmackDown preview – Friday, November 25, Amica Mutual Pavilion, Providence, RI

We’re bummed this venue is no longer the Dunkin’ Donuts Center, even though we’re sure the folks at Amica Mutual are lovely. It’s unusual to know much more about the SmackDown card than the Raw card on a Monday, but that’s exactly the case here for this big show on the night before Survivor Series.

The men’s WarGames advantage will be up for grabs in a tag team match between the undisputed champs, The Usos, and the brothers from another mother, Sheamus and Drew McIntyre. It would certainly help the Brawling Brutes and company if they can gain an edge over the Bloodline.

Speaking of the Brutes, another one of their own, Butch, is still alive in the SmackDown World Cup, and will take on Santos Escobar Friday in one semifinal. The other semifinal will also take place in Providence, when Ricochet goes up against Braun Strowman.

Last but certainly not least, Shotzi and Ronda Rousey continue to circle each other ahead of their title match at Survivor Series WarGames. They’ll meet in a tag team match Friday, with Shotzi teaming with Raquel Rodriguez while Rousey calls upon her BFF, Shayna Baszler.

You’ll be all shopped out by Black Friday night anyway, so this is the best possible way to end Thanksgiving week.

AEW Rampage results: Orange Cassidy retains again

Get quick AEW Rampage results for the November 11, 2022 episode, featuring Orange Cassidy vs. Lee Johnson for the All-Atlantic Championship.

Who would have imagined that Orange Cassidy would be the hardest working champion in AEW? It doesn’t really fit his personality at all, but Freshly Squeezed is back at it again on AEW Rampage, defending his All-Atlantic Championship after several tough defenses just last week.

This time out, it’ll be Lee Johnson getting a shot at the gold. And speaking of gold, the AEW World Title Eliminator Tournament was supposed to have all three of its remaining first round matches on tonight’s show. However, Ricky Starks isn’t cleared to compete, kicking his match with Lance Archer into next week.

We’ll still see two other tourney matches as Brian Cage takes on Dante Martin and Rush collides with Bandido. The winners of those matches will join Ethan Page in the semifinals after his victory on Dynamite.

Let’s check out what’s going down as we wrap up the week in AEW on TV.

AEW Rampage results in 30 seconds:

  • “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry wants to challenge Luchasaurus to a Steel Cage match face to face, but it doesn’t go so well when he ends up getting slammed onto a steel chair
  • Pac lectures the rest of Death Triangle again for not cheating like he does, saying they need to defend their trios titles by any means necessary
  • Brian Cage def. Dante Martin by pinfall in an AEW World Title Eliminator Tournament match
  • Lee Moriarty says he wants any champion in AEW … but even Stokely Hathaway loses some of his bravado when Hook shows up
  • Another promo video airs for the House of Black
  • Bandido def. Rush by pinfall in an AEW World Title Eliminator Tournament match after John Silver helped counteract interference from Jose The Assistant
  • Jake Hager made a challenge of some sort to Claudio Castagnoli
  • Nyla Rose def. Kayla Sparks by pinfall, but gets dropped by a pump kick from an angry Jade Cargill
  • Orange Cassidy def. Lee Johnson by pinfall to retain the AEW All-Atlantic Championship

Opening Bell: Lesnar gets Raw, Dynamite explodes into Fyter Fest

Get set for the week in WWE and AEW with Opening Bell: quick previews of Raw, SmackDown, Dynamite and Rampage for the week of July 11.

Welcome to the Opening Bell, where we round up what’s been announced for WWE (Raw and SmackDown) and AEW (Dynamite and Rampage) programming for the week we’ve just begun.

WWE Raw preview – Monday, July 11, AT&T Center, San Antonio

It’s almost certainly not like this at WWE HQ, but it occasionally feels like someone says, “oh crap, SummerSlam is coming up fast, we better start promoting the main event!” Roman Reigns did his part on SmackDown this past Friday, making a now somewhat rare appearance.

Brock Lesnar will return the favor tonight, as WWE is telling the world that the Beast Incarnate will be on this week’s show. We’re not exactly sure what he’s going to do, but the official Raw preview poses the question, “what will Lesnar have to say about squaring off with Reigns one last time?”

Someone may get an F-5. If my name rhymed with Saul Layman, I’d probably just stay in the back when Lesnar is out in the ring.

AEW Dynamite preview – Fyter Fest Week 1 – Wednesday, July 13, Enmarket Arena, Savannah, Georgia

Of the themed episodes of AEW television, Fyter Fest might be right near the top. Not because there’s a special gimmick match or anything like that, but simply because its name is partially a reference to and parody of an infamous event that may otherwise have faded from the memory of everyone except those unlucky enough to attend it.

In any case, Fyter Fest Week 1 will be coming in hot with a three-way tag team championship match featuring the Young Bucks defending against both Swerve in Our Glory and Powerhouse Hobbs and Ricky Starks. The big question here is whether the challenging teams will be able to focus on the gold since they have long-running beef with each other.

Here’s what else to expect on Wednesday night:

WWE SmackDown preview – Friday, July 15, Amway Center, Orlando

WWE has fairly often not provided any clue as to what to expect on SmackDown recently until it is close to the show (as in sometimes the same day), but has helpfully given Orlando-area fans two matches to look forward to come Friday night.

The first is one of the trends we dislike, a Championship Contender’s Match where you have to beat the champ to get a shot at the champ for their title. In this case, the champ in question is Liv Morgan, and the wrestler gunning for another chance to face her with higher stakes is Natalya. Considering Liv already has a formidable foe lined up for SummerSlam in Ronda Rousey, she’ll hope to get past Nattie as quickly as possible.

And after saying last week he’d like to see if it’s possible to stuff the entire Money in the Briefcase inside the big mouth of Theory, Madcap Moss will get the chance to do just that. Smart money says he fails, even though plenty of people would love to see him succeed.

AEW Rampage preview – Friday, July 15, Enmarket Arena, Savannah, Georgia (taped on July 13)

This really is a red letter week as even Rampage has a few matches that have been revealed ahead of time. With the next ROH event less than two weeks away, it’s only right that the company’s world champion, Jonathan Gresham, is in action against Lee Moriarity, particularly since Gresham sold out Moriarity mid-match last week and aligned himself with Tully Blanchard. As one does.

Plus the Lucha Bros. take on Private Party in a tag team match that should give AEW fans who have down since day one pleasant memories of 2019. We mean that in a good way, too.

AEW Rampage results: FTR, Trent defend AEW honor against Will Ospreay, Aussie Open

Check out AEW Rampage results for the June 10, 2022 episode from Independence, Missouri near Kansas City.

The Forbidden Door picture is starting to come into focus more and more with each passing show, but with a few weeks left until AEW and NJPW collide in Chicago, there are more twists to come. Will Ospreay proved that on Dynamite, unleashing some of his United Empire.

Tonight on Rampage, FTR and Trent Beretta will try to make sure that invasion doesn’t go unpunished, facing Ospreay and Aussie Open in a trios match. We’re also going to hear from Hook and Danhausen (well, probably just Danhausen, as Hook tends to be a man of few words), and see Eddie Kingston square up with Jake Hager.

Let’s do this, pre-recorded from just outside Kansas City.

AEW Rampage results in 30 seconds:

  • Eddie Kingston def. Jake Hager by pinfall
  • Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. tells Toni Storm (via Tony Schiavone) that it was arrogant to put her hands on the AEW Women’s World Championship and she needs to get in line
  • Jay Lethal and Satnam Singh def. Davey Vega and Mike Fichett by pinfall
  • Danhausen and Hook show off the new fancy golf carts they bought after winning their match at Double or Nothing
  • Kris Statlander def. Red Velvet by pinfall, but the Baddies attack after the match, Anna Jay is beaten down trying to help, and Athena is prevented from assisting as well
  • Ethan Page differentiates himself from Miro by saying he looks up to, believes in and prays to himself
  • “You open the door, don’t be afraid of who walks through.” Will Ospreay says they are in AEW to separate the sheep from the GOATS, but Trent Beretta says he likes Ospreay even less than he did in NJPW
  • FTR and Trent Beretta def. Will Ospreay and Aussie Open by pinfall

Celebrity Sooners: Oklahoma’s most famous fans and alumni

We see some of them striding the sideline while others work behind the scenes. Here are some of the most famous alumni and fans of the Oklahoma Sooners.

A university with a long and distinguished history as the University of Oklahoma is bound to have a distinguished group of alumni and fans. We’re not simply talking about athletes, because the Oklahoma Sooners have some of the most recognizable athletes going in Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, and Trae Young.

But outside the lines, the Sooners are well represented by alumni and fans as well. There are actors, CEOs of major corporations, owners of professional sports teams, pro wrestlers, musicians, a Miss America, and an astronaut.

We took the liberty to compile some of the most famous personalities with connections to the University of Oklahoma. We mostly stayed away from sports figures, but several former Sooners have become famous for something other than the sport they played at the university, so they’re worth mentioning.

LFA 107 results: Kamuela Kirk shines, retires Daniel Swain on the stool – literally?

An action-packed LFA 107 main event ended with one fighter uttering the words, “I’m retired” on the stool.

Eleven finishes in as many pro victories, [autotag]Kamuela Kirk[/autotag] kept his streak alive in the LFA 107 main event.

In his first LFA headliner, Kirk (11-4) defeated fellow Dana White’s Contender Series alumnus [autotag]Daniel Swain[/autotag] via TKO due to retirement in between Round 2 and 3.

Swain (20-11-1), who had lost in between rounds on DWCS in 2020, uttered the words “I’m retired” to his corner, which indicated to the LFA commentary team that Swain’s fight Friday would be his last. Swain took off his gloves for the decision but was not interviewed post-fight and thus did not provide clarity on the situation.

The stoppage came after an action-packed opening 10 minutes. Kirk landed multiple flurries of significant strikes in Round 1 that appeared to have Swain in trouble. Just when it looked like he was in a bad spot, Swain shot up with an armbar – foreshadowing of the theme of Round 2. Much of the second round was spent with Kirk on top of Swain, who shot up and looked for submissions.

Kirk, 27, has now won back-to-back fights since losses to Bruno Silva and Billy Quarantillo temporarily halted his momentum toward a major promotional deal. After the victory, Kirk called for a meeting with his “business partner” Dana White, and expressed interest in fighting at UFC 263 in his home state of Arizona.

The undercard was highlighted by [autotag]Ricardo Dias[/autotag], who landed a nasty flying knee on [autotag]George Garcia[/autotag] in the co-main event. Also, former collegiate football player [autotag]Jordan Heiderman[/autotag] kept his undefeated record intact against former [autotag]Jake Hager[/autotag] opponent [autotag]Anthony Garrett[/autotag].

In the women’s divisions, [autotag]Taylor Mauldin[/autotag] became the first female to end a fight via kneebar in LFA history after [autotag]Kay Hansen[/autotag] confidant [autotag]Alandria Brown[/autotag] won her highly-anticipated professional debut by rear-naked choke.

LFA 107 took place Friday at Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D. The main card streamed on UFC Fight Pass after prelims on Facebook.

The full LFA 107 results include:

  • Kamuela Kirk def. Daniel Swain via TKO (retirement) – Round 2, 5:00

Bellator 250 results: AEW star Jake Hager survives scare, edges Brandon Calton

Pro wrestling star Jake Hager remained perfect in his MMA career, but it didn’t come easy.

Pro wrestling star [autotag]Jake Hager[/autotag] remained perfect in his MMA career on Thursday when he defeated [autotag]Brandon Calton[/autotag] at Bellator 250, but it didn’t come easy.

Hager (3-0 MMA, 3-0 BMMA), a former WWE champion and current AEW star, was forced to dig deep over the course of three rounds and overcome big shots from Calton (2-1 MMA, 0-1 BMMA), but he did the job and earned a split decision by scores of 28-29, 29-28 and 29-28.

The heavyweight bout was part of the Bellator 250 preliminary card at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. It streamed on MMA Junkie ahead of a main card on CBS Sports Network and DAZN.

The first round was relatively uneventful. Hager looked to get settled in his first fight in a year, while Calton, who is making his third appearance of 2020, looked to start more quickly. Calton didn’t do a whole lot, though, and largely remained stationary as Hager used footwork to circle around the cage on the outside. Hager’s confidence picked up late in the first, and he carried it forward.

Hager really stated to work behind his jab in the second. He picked at Calton with the lead hand, then started to put straight punches and hooks as time wore on. It seemed the fight was trending heavily in Hager’s direction until Calton timed a perfect counter right hand that sent Hager’s mouthpiece flying and put him in trouble. Hager struggled to get his footing as he moved back toward the fence, but he was able to fend off Calton’s follow-up shots in the final seconds and survive until the bell.

Calton was chomping at the bit to get the final round started, but Hager didn’t roll over. He stung Calton with a low kick then a pair of punches. Calton looked as if he wanted to time another big counter punch, but every second that passed allowed Hager to recover. Calton connected with a grazing shot behind the ear, but it didn’t put Hager in serious trouble. Hager closed the distance on Calton in the second half of the round, clinching his opponent against the fence and chipping away with shots. Hager punched Calton in the groin with roughly 90 seconds left, forcing a break in the action. They traded shots down the stretch, with Hager’s nose leaking some blood before the final bell.

Up-to-the-minute Bellator 250 results:

  • Jake Hager def. Brandon Calton via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28)
  • Sabah Homasi de. Bobby Voelker via knockout (flying knee) – Round 2, 0:20
  • Johnny Eblen def. Taylor Johnson via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27)
  • Adam Borics def. Erick Sanchez via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27)
  • Cody Law def. Orlando Ortega via submission (D’Arce choke) – Round 1, 2:41
