The UFC closes its busy April schedule on Saturday with UFC Fight Night 223, which takes place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas with a main card that streams on ESPN+ following prelims on ESPN2.

A bantamweight main event will close the card. [autotag]Song Yadong[/autotag] (19-7-1 MMA, 8-2-1 UFC) will try to make good on his second headlining opportunity when he takes on [autotag]Ricky Simon[/autotag] (20-3 MMA, 8-2 UFC), who is riding a four-fight winning streak into his first opportunity at top billing.

UFC books Martin Buday vs. Jake Collier for April 15 event

The UFC is booking into mid-April with the addition of Martin Buday vs. Jake Collier to its upcoming calendar.

[autotag]Martin Buday[/autotag] and [autotag]Jake Collier[/autotag] are set to fight.

The two heavyweight fighters will collide at a UFC Fight Night event scheduled for April 15. The card does not yet have a publicly-known location or venue.

Two people with knowledge of the booking recently informed MMA Junkie of the booking but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.

Buday (11-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) earned a shot in the UFC when he knocked out Lorenzo Hood on Dana White’s Contender Series. Since he took the step to the big leagues, Buday defeated Chris Barnett and Lukasz Brzeski via decision.

Collier (13-8 MMA, 5-7 UFC) has dropped three of his most recent four fights, though has put out competitive outings in the losses. Two of the losses were debated by fans, particularly a controversial split decision loss to Andrei Arlovski.

With the addition, the UFC Fight Night lineup for April 15 includes:

UFC 279 Promotional Guidelines Compliance pay: Khamzat Chimaev nets $6,000

Fighters from Saturday’s UFC 279 took home UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance pay totaling $202,000.

LAS VEGAS – Fighters from Saturday’s UFC 279 event took home UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance pay totaling $202,000.

The program, a comprehensive plan that includes outfitting requirements, media obligations and other items under the fighter code of conduct, replaces the previous payments made under the UFC Athlete Outfitting Policy.

UFC 279 took place at T-Mobile Arena. The main card aired on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPNNews and ESPN+.

Under the UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance program’s payout tiers, which appropriate the money generated by Venum’s multi-year sponsorship with the UFC, fighters are paid based on their total number of UFC bouts, as well as Zuffa-era WEC fights (January 2007 and later) and Zuffa-era Strikeforce bouts (April 2011 and later). Fighters with 1-3 bouts receive $4,000 per appearance; 4-5 bouts get $4,500; 6-10 bouts get $6,000; 11-15 bouts earn $11,000; 16-20 bouts pocket $16,000; and 21 bouts and more get $21,000. Additionally, champions earn $42,000 while title challengers get $32,000.

In addition to experience-based pay, UFC fighters will receive in perpetuity royalty payments amounting to 20-30 percent of any UFC merchandise sold that bears their likeness, according to officials.

UFC 279 video: Chris Barnett mounts incredible comeback to score second-round TKO of Jake Collier

Chris Barnett showed incredible heart when he came from behind to TKO Jake Collier in Round 2 on the UFC 279 prelims.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Chris Barnett[/autotag] was bloodied and battered but refused to be beaten.

Barnett (23-8 MMA, 2-2 UFC), who was dropped twice in Round 1, weathered an early storm to rally and stop [autotag]Jake Collier[/autotag] (13-8 MMA, 5-7 UFC) by TKO in the 2:24 mark of Round 2 of the UFC 279 preliminary bout. Two of the three judges awarded Collier a 10-8 in Round 1.

Both men came out slugging, with Collier finding early success and busting the whole left side of Barnett’s face. Barnett’s vision was comprised, but he never stopped swinging until he was able to get the fight to the ground and get the stoppage win.

An electric Barnett matched his energy in his post-fight octagon interview when he showed his gratitude to the fans who chanted his name. He credited the cheers for helping him come from behind and an elated Barnett shouted “Stand up for yourselves!” to an appreciative Vegas crowd. And of course, he gave the fans a post-fight dance to top off his incredible show of heart.

UFC 279 adds Chris Barnett vs. Jake Collier heavyweight clash

UFC 279, headlined by Nate Diaz vs. Khamzat Chimaev, continues to build.

Big boys will battle at UFC 279 as heavyweights [autotag]Chris Barnett[/autotag] and [autotag]Jake Collier[/autotag] will throw down in a three-round clash as part of the Sept. 10 pay-per-view event at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

A person with knowledge of the booking confirmed the matchup Tuesday to MMA Junkie after it appeared on UFC broadcast partner ESPN‘s online MMA schedule.

Barnett (22-8 MMA, 1-2 UFC), 36, made his UFC debut in 2021 after 12 years of competition in smaller circuits around the world. After a loss to Ben Rothwell in his promotional debut, Barnett turned some heads when he finished Gian Villante with a wheel kick and punches. He returned in April and lost a technical decision to Martin Buday.

Collier (13-7 MMA, 5-6 UFC), 33, has alternated wins and losses across three weight classes since his UFC debut in 2014. At heavyweight, Collier has gone 2-3 with wins over Gian Villante and Chase Sherman. He most recently competed in April when he lost a controversial split decision to Andrei Arlovski.
