Packers waive rookie OL Jahmir Johnson with injury settlement

The Packers roster is down to 89 players after waiving rookie OL Jahmir Johnson with an injury settlement on Tuesday.

The roster of the Green Bay Packers is down to 89 players after the team waived rookie offensive lineman Jahmir Johnson with an injury settlement on Tuesday. The move was listed on the league’s official transaction wire.

Johnson, who went undrafted out of Texas A&M, signed with the Packers earlier this month and participated at the team’s rookie minicamp last weekend.

Johnson (6-5, 290) was a graduate transfer at Texas A&M who started all 11 games at left tackle for the Aggies. He was a 17-game starter at guard and tackle over three years at Tennessee before transferring.

In 2021, Johnson allowed two sacks and 31 total pressures at left tackle for Texas A&M.

The Packers had Johnson in Green Bay for an official pre-draft visit.

With the conclusion of the 2022 NFL draft, offensive lineman Jahmir Johnson did not hear his name called, although, like six of his fellow undrafted Aggie teammates, sources confirmed that Johnson is now getting an opportunity to sign with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent.

Jahmir Johnson started his career at the University of Tennesee in 2018 before transferring to Texas A&M as a grad student for the 2021 season, starting each of the 11 games he played during that season and was a solid anchor alongside newly-minted Houston Texan Kenyon Green. Standing at 6-5, 300 pounds, Johnson is a long and athletic tackle and has a chance to battle for a swing tackle position with the Packers, with the possibility of a starting role if he accepts coaching and continues to develop.

Johnson will now have the opportunity to block for future Hall of Fame Quarterback Aaron Rodgers and learn the ins and outs of playing the tackle position in the NFL from All-Pro left tackle David Bakhtiari.

With Johnson’s signing, every draft-eligible Aggie player has now found a home, or temporary home, showing that Jimbo Fisher’s program is developing top-notch athletes year in and year out.
