Jaguars preseason snap counts vs. Falcons

Jacksonville wrapped up its undefeated 2024 preseason with a 31-0 victory over Atlanta Friday night, deploying 79 different Jaguars for a final evaluation before trimming its roster to 53 players ahead of the NFL’s Tuesday deadline to do so.

“I think we’re on track,” Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said about the Jaguars’ direction after the game, with Jacksonville’s regular season opener against Miami approaching Sept. 8.

“I don’t think that we’re a finished product. We’re still working on some things in all three phases, but it was a good preseason. It was tough. It was physical on [Jacksonville’s players]. I thought they handled it extremely well. It showed obviously in their play these three games, but now quite honestly, it doesn’t matter, right? We have to get ready for Miami.”

Jaguars preseason snap counts vs. Buccaneers

Jaguars preseason snap counts vs. Buccaneers

With most Jacksonville starters sidelined following a week of joint practices with Tampa Bay, 67 of the Jaguars’ 91 active roster members took the field Saturday night in a 20-7 victory over the Buccaneers at EverBank Stadium.

One of the first-teamers who dressed, however, was first-round rookie wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. Each of Jacksonville’s available, non-specialist 2024 draft picks logged at least 16 snaps in Week 2 of the preseason.

Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke noted the team’s effort to get rookies more involved in preseason action this year during the broadcast of Saturday’s contest.

“We’ve got to put more stress on them. That was the thing we talked about.  We can’t give them a rookie season, we’ve got to get them ready to play now,” Baalke said.

“We kept them two and half weeks longer than we’ve kept the previous two rookie classes so they got a shorter break. We’ve demanded more of them mentally and physically and we’ve put them in situations in the game that we weren’t putting them in the previous two years, earlier in the game when it matters and it counts.  I think it’s been a very successful transition for us.”
